'Settled a war a month': Trump again takes credit for India-Pakistan ceasefire; claims 'ending 5 wars' globally

US President Donald Trump (Image credits: AP) NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump once again on Sunday repeated his claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, along with ending several other global conflicts. In post on Truth Social, Trump responded to radio host and author Charlamagne Tha God saying the host knew 'nothing' about his achievements, including 'just ending 5 Wars, including a 31 year bloodbath between Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, where Seven Million people have died, and there was no end in sight.' Trump added, 'He didn't know that, or India and Pakistan or, wiping out Iran's nuclear capabilities, or closing the horrendous open Border, or creating the greatest economy.' Speaking to Newsmax a day earlier, Trump claimed to have 'settled a lot of wars,' including India and Pakistan. 'One of the wars—India, Pakistan, nuclear,' he said. He also cited conflicts in Thailand and Cambodia, and Congo and Rwanda, saying many were resolved through trade pressure, reported PTI. 'I said 'listen, you guys are going to fight. You can fight all you want. I mean, just fight your hearts out. But we're not doing a trade deal'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 Most Beautiful Women Ever Today's NYC Undo All of a sudden they end up not doing a war.' Trump added, 'I settled a lot of wars. I think I settled averaging about a war a month. But, you know, we're saving millions of lives.' Last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt supported Trump's claim, saying he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. 'Trump has now ended conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia, Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India and Pakistan, Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia,' she said at a briefing. She claimed Trump has 'brokered, on average, about one peace deal or ceasefire per month' in his six months in office. Since May 10, Trump has claimed multiple times that India and Pakistan had agreed to a 'full and immediate' ceasefire after US-mediated talks. However, officials have firmly denied any US involvement in the recent ceasefire. Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Parliament that no foreign leader urged India to stop Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 people. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said there was 'no third-party intervention' and dismissed any link between the ceasefire and trade. 'Prime Minister Modi and Trump did not have any phone calls between April 22, when the Pahalgam terror attack took place, and June 16,' Jaishankar said in the Rajya Sabha as quoted by PTI.

Improve maritime connectivity of Dweep, MP urges Union min

Kochi: In a bid to improve the maritime connectivity of Lakshadweep, the MP from the UT, M Hamdullah Sayeed, has made a written submission to Union minister of ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. Sayeed stated in his letter that the current fleet operated by the Lakshadweep administration for passenger movement was not only ageing but woefully inadequate to meet the growing inter-island and mainland demands. "The last vessel was inducted nearly a decade ago. This has resulted in frequent disruptions, delays and reduced service reliability, severely affecting residents, students, traders, and public institutions," he said. He urged the ministry to consider the acquisition of two new passenger vessels with a minimum capacity of 400 passengers and 300 MT cargo space. He also demanded the procurement of two dedicated cargo vessels of 600 MT capacity to support essential goods and commerce. Deployment of a dedicated oil tanker for fuel and LPG transport, as the sole existing vessel has proven insufficient, is another demand. He stressed in the letter that the sustenance, economic vitality and public service delivery in Lakshadweep are fundamentally dependent on uninterrupted and affordable sea transport. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo Sayeed also referred to the fare policy affecting children. "Presently, children above the age of one are charged full fare despite occupying no separate berths or seats. This has placed an unfair burden on families who travel frequently for healthcare, education, and other essential services. In contrast, Indian Railways exempts children under five from fare, and the civil aviation sector provides discounted or nominal infant fares. In light of these national standards, I respectfully urge the ministry to rationalise the fare structure by allowing children under five years to travel either free of cost or at a nominal token fare when accompanied by a parent or guardian," the letter added. He also registered strong objection to the fare revision which came into effect from July 1, terming it steep and abrupt. "This unilateral increase, implemented without stakeholder consultation or prior public notice, has triggered widespread concern and unrest among the island population," he said, urging the ministry to immediately reconsider and withdraw the revised fare structure. Amid move to relook at labour shield for IT, Kharge says exemption to continue till 2029

Bengaluru: A senior Karnataka minister has said tech behemoth TCS planning to lay off 12,000 employees is "alarming" and hinted at withdrawing the labour law exemption, while his ministerial colleague has confirmed to TOI the tech industry will continue to enjoy the safety bulwark from labour inspections until 2029. The Karnataka labour department is seeking a serious "relook" at the exemption under the Karnataka (Standing Orders) Act of 1946 for IT, ITeS, BPOs and startups. In light of the TCS move, labour minister Santosh Lad said there is an urgent need to look at the exemption clause enjoyed by tech and tech-enabled companies. However, IT&BT minister Priyank Kharge said the exemption clause has been in force from 2014 and will remain in effect till 2029. "Nothing can be done for now," he added. "Whether the state labour department can interfere is what we need to look at because sunrise companies enjoy the exemption," he said, adding he would speak to the IT-BT minister and the industries minister. Minister Kharge said the TCS development "is an internal matter" over which the govt does not have any control and that it does not reflect the condition in other IT and ITES companies. On Sunday, Lad said his department is already talking to TCS and coordinating with other relevant departments. There are four conditions laid down in the standing-order exemptions to IT/ITES/BPO and startups: Set up internal committee to prevent sexual harassment at workplace; form a grievance-redressal committee; inform the labour department on disciplinary actions against employees; ensure employee service conditions at workplace. These exemptions were enforced in Karnataka for the IT/ITES sector in 2014 for a five-year period. Subsequently, it was extended twice for a five-period each. BOX Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act 1946 The labour standing orders are applicable to any industry which has over 100 employees and are intended to maintain harmonious relationships between employers and employees, to regulate conditions of recruitment, discharge, disciplinary action, leave, holidays of the workers. The orders dictate classification of the workforce, work schedule, holidays, paydays, and wages. Notices must be issued before termination of employment, allow formation of labour unions and labour dept inspection.
