Two book projects, a Substack and a business on the go, but this writer's staying stoic
The ex-columnist at Guardian Australia and co-creator of the Netflix comedy drama Wellmania officially left the employ of the federal government on Tuesday, having worked for Finance Minister Katy Gallagher before Plibersek.
Delaney has four (count 'em) projects on the go: a consultancy business, a hybrid novel-memoir about stoicism, a demi-semi autobiographical comic novel. Oh and a Substack, natch.
The Substack, called The Chaos Era with Brigid Delaney, should have launched by now, unless Delaney left her laptop at a station, or got trapped on a train in a station tunnel, or slipped while bushwalking on an island, triggering a rescue by the coastguard, or suffered any of her many trademark real-life snafus she will doubtless be writing about.
Meanwhile, her hybrid book, The Seeker and the Sage, billed as 'a stoic conversation to hold you together in a fractured world', is due out in September. Delaney, also a former Sydney Morning Herald trainee, hit a jackpot with her previous stoicism book, Reasons Not To Worry, which sold in 22 territories and was translated into 19 languages.
It followed on from Wellmania, her book which investigated the wellness industry, which was turned into a Netflix series starring Celeste Barber.
In addition, Delaney has just launched her Stoic Solutions consultancy, which translates the timeless teachings of the ancient stoics Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetis for the modern corporate audience so they can retool their bandwidth, tie a bow around it, resolve hanging issues and crush their KPIs.
But wait. Delaney is planning a novel, which will supercharge the real-life adventures (see above) she chronicled in her diary column for Guardian Australia.

Richard Gadd dropped Baby Reindeer episode
Richard Gadd has revealed an entire episode of Baby Reindeer was dropped. The 36-year-old comic wrote and starred in the award-winning Netflix series - which is based on his real life experiences with a stalker - had been told when developing the show that it was "too dark" and so he penned an installment in which his character Donny Dunn visited his parents to escape the unwanted attentions of Martha (Jessica Gunning). Speaking at the Future Visions conference in Melbourne, Australia, he said: "I remember when we were developing it, there was the note that kept coming in, and probably rightfully so, about ''The show is just too dark. You need to give us a respite.'" The cut episode featured Donny "escaping" Martha by leaving London to visit his family. He said: "There's a whole episode where I go to the football with my dad, and I spend a day with my dad. "But I felt like a lot of the note that was coming in was that we needed a break from Martha because she's so relentless." However, Richard was struck by Martha's absence from the episode so made a decision to drop it entirely. He said: "But really, when we got to the edit, I thought, 'You miss her every time she's not on screen.' "And I thought in a lot of ways, the sooner you get back to her, the better." Richard never expected Baby Reindeer to take off in the way it did. He previously told the Guardian newspaper: "The biggest surprise was the fact that it blew up in the first place, because nothing about it screamed commercial hit." The comic has found his new fame a "huge adjustment" and insisted it wasn't something that he was looking for. He said: "It came out on a Thursday, and by Sunday people were knocking on my door asking for autographs. I was an arthouse comedian, performing to five people every night, so it was a huge adjustment. "I'm still getting used to it. Going to the supermarket comes with a million caveats now. "Weirdly, I never wanted fame. I just liked the idea that, one day, I would make a piece of art that was culturally important, because then maybe I would learn to like myself. "The biggest emotion that comes with fame is a sort of paranoia in public." Richard has found himself in a number of "awkward" situations as a result of becoming more recognisable. He said: "There are people who want to ask you stuff in the worst kind of situations – having a meal and someone pulls up a chair. It can be really awkward."

Gina Rodriguez is pregnant. The 40-year-old actress - who already has son Charlie, two, with husband Joe LoCicero - walked the red carpet for Netflix's Katie Taylor Vs. Amanda Serrano fight at New York's Madison Square Garden on Friday (11.07.25) night in a close-fitting black floral dress that showed off her bump. Gina and Joe, 38, embraced as they posed for photos together, with the Jane the Virgin star cradled her stomach proudly. And on Sunday (13.07.25), Gina revealed she is expecting a baby girl. She shared a photo on Instagram, in which she wore loose grey trousers and a lemon-print short top, and wrote: "Baby girl coming thru!!! It was basically his first wedding. It felt right, on the worst day of the entire [week], but that didn't stop us. "It was indoors and half outdoors. Everything I planned was outside and so about five days prior I was like, 'I'm getting tents. Nobody's going to stop me,' and we had tents and it was great." Gina even had "Charlie merch" produced, badges made from her "favourite pictures of [her] little man". Handing one to the talk show host, she laughed: "I went a bit far. "We expect you to wear it nightly, but it's not a big deal." The Players star has been wowed by her husband's commitment to fatherhood. She told 'Entertainment Tonight': "It means absolutely everything. "I'm able to do the things that I love and be with my son 24/7 because he has him on set. Also, to see your husband with his boy and just be there for every single milestone and to take away that much desire that he may have outside of everything, I owe it all to my husband."

Meghan and Kate: Feud that tore the ‘Fab Four' apart
Tensions between Princess Kate and Meghan Markle were apparent from their very first meeting. But as their husbands clashed, the inevitable rift deepened into a full-blown feud. A palace insider has recounted stories of the unravelling of the relationship between the so-called 'Fab Four', which began with statements made in the press by Meghan about Princess Kate's behaviour behind closed doors, and her lack of familiarity on social occasions between the couples. Royal biographer Tina Brown claims the media comparisons between the two women after Prince Harry introduced Meghan to Prince William and Princess Kate became a sticking point for the two women. 'Now that Meghan was a feminist hero, tensions with the more senior royal beauty, the (former) Duchess of Cambridge, offered an irresistible story to the tabloids, who always love to stoke a rivalry between women,' Ms Brown wrote in the Palace Papers.. The initial meeting was reported in the press to have gone well; however, in the Sussexes' Netflix documentary series, Meghan recalled that she felt uncomfortable about the level of formality that remained between the two. 'Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time, I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot. Like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger. I didn't realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits,' Meghan said. 'I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door and think, 'okay, we can relax now'. 'But that formality carries over on both sides, and that was surprising to me.' Ms Brown said Meghan became concerned that she had an immediate personality clash with Princess Kate and that she found her to be 'cool' towards Prince Harry's partner. 'Meghan later said she found Kate to be cool of temperament, but that's likely because Meghan is a 'gusher', who hugged even the guards outside Kensington Palace,' Ms Brown said via reports in the Daily Mail. 'Kate is not a woman given to spontaneous rapport. She'd avoided recruiting new girlfriends to her inner circle/slumber party list since Marlborough and St Andrew's. 'Preoccupied with two young children and public duty, Kate had no serious reason to see the latest and most glamorous of Harry's string of girlfriends as a potential threat'. Just as in the days when Princess Diana's new updo upstaged the Queen at the opening of Parliament, the increasing media comparisons of Meghan and Kate - invariably casting Kate as dull and dutiful - began to inject tension. Soon after Prince Harry and Meghan announced their engagement in 2017, the former actress spoke glowingly about her relationship with Princess Kate and her efforts to welcome her into the family. 'Catherine has been absolutely amazing, as has William as well, you know, fantastic support,' Meghan said. But as the wedding day approached, the pair were to clash over royal protocol, and the length of the bridesmaid dresses to be worn on the big day. Reports filtered out that the two had a heated exchange, and Meghan made Kate cry during the argument over the outfits in 2018. In his book, Revenge, Tom Bower claimed unnamed sources told him Princess Kate and Meghan disagreed over the length of Princess Charlotte's hemline and the fit of her dress. The Duchess of Sussex played down the disagreement during her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, saying 'she (Kate) was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised. And she brought me flowers'.
