Video shared by W.B. CM fake and politically motivated: Delhi Police
In a video statement on X, DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania said the woman, identified as Sanjanu Parveen, alleged that she and her son were beaten up by the police on the directions of a 'politically connected relative from Malda' in West Bengal.
The officer said that based on the West Bengal Chief Minister's X post, multiple teams were constituted to identify the woman, who was subsequently traced and interrogated.
'In her confession during the interrogation, the woman mentioned that her relative, who lives in Malda, is a political worker, and at his request, she made this baseless video and shared it with him. Later, her relative circulated the same video to the local media,' the DCP said.
The officer added that the video was made to 'tarnish the image of Delhi Police'.
Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in W.B. Suvendu Adhikari said the woman had claimed that four individuals claiming to be from the police had visited her home on July 25, accused her family of being undocumented Bangladeshi citizens, and forcibly taken her, along with her two children, to a park in Mangolpuri the next day.
'Clear inconsistencies'
'However, the CCTV footage [near her house] clearly reveals inconsistencies. It clearly shows her leaving home with her children alone, which contradicts the claim of the use of force,' said Mr. Adhikari.
He added, 'Many such fake stories will be spread. So this time, don't just listen and believe in whatever you see.'

'Bangladeshi language': TMC's Abhishek Banerjee says Delhi Police insulted Bangla; seeks apology from Amit Shah
Abhishek Banerjee (left), Amit Shah (ANI) NEW DELHI: Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday hit out at BJP, after a letter from Delhi police referred to Bengali as 'Bangladeshi language,' terming it a calculated insult by the union government and an attempt to strip language of its identity, while labeling Bengali-speaking Indians as 'outsiders. ' Calling the move "a shocking escalation" in the targeting of Bengali-speaking people, Banerjee accused the BJP-led central government of systematically attempting to malign Bengal and erase its cultural identity. 'This is not a mere clerical error. It is yet another calculated attempt by the BJP to defame Bengal, undermine our cultural identity, and equate West Bengal with Bangladesh for narrow political propaganda,' he said in a post on social media platform X. The Trinamool MP went on to term the reference to Bengali as a foreign language a 'direct violation' of Article 343 and the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which recognises Bangla (Bengali) as one of India's official languages. 'There is no language called 'Bangladeshi'. To call Bangla a foreign language is not just an insult, it's an attack on our identity, culture, and belonging. Bengalis are not outsiders in their own homeland,' he added. The TMC leader further alleged that Bengali-speaking citizens have been routinely 'targeted, harassed, and detained' in BJP-ruled states over the past few months and that this incident is part of a broader pattern of discrimination. Banerjee labelled the BJP as "Bangla Birodhi" (anti-Bengal) and "Zamindar" (feudal), accusing the party of disrespecting India's cultural diversity and thriving on divisive politics. 'Bangla and Bengalis are Indian. Bangla is our pride. We will not allow our identity to be trampled,' he added. The TMC leader demanded immediate suspension of the investigating officer named in the letter, inspector Amit Dutt, and sought a formal, public apology from the Delhi Police, the BJP, and the union home ministry, led by Amit Shah . Earlier in a post on X, Trinamool shared a copy of a letter from an inspector at Lodhi Colony police station to the officer in charge of Banga Bhawan, New Delhi, requesting a translator for the "Bangladeshi language." TMC wrote: "Is there no limit to BJP's hatred for Bengalis? After repeatedly harassing and detaining Bengali-speaking workers across BJP-ruled states, Amit Shah's Delhi Police has now crossed all lines by officially branding our mother tongue, Bangla, as 'Bangladeshi language','

Delhi murder mystery solved: Woman, her lover held for killing husband; third accused still absconding
Delhi Police has arrested a woman and her boyfriend for allegedly plotting and executing the murder of her husband and dumping his body in a drain in Haryana's Sonipat, an official said on Saturday. The arrested accused have been identified as Soniya (34), a resident of Alipur in Delhi, and her 28-year-old boyfriend Rohit, who hails from Sonipat, the official said, adding that another accused in the case, Vijay, is absconding. The murder was committed over the affair, as well as the victim's abusive and criminal behaviour, he added. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said, 'The victim, Pritam Prakash (42), was a known history-sheeter in Alipur. He had more than 10 cases registered against him, including those under the Arms Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. He had also been declared a proclaimed offender by the court.' On July 5, 2024, Pritam came to pick up Soniya from her sister's house in Sonipat's Gannaur but left after an argument. That day, Soniya offered Rs 50,000 to her sister's brother-in-law Vijay and asked him to kill her husband. Later, when Pritam returned and pleaded with her, Soniya let him stay in the house. However, that night while she slept on the terrace, Vijay killed Pritam and dumped his body in a drain near Agwanpur. Vijay sent her a video of the body on social media, which was later deleted. On July 20, Soniya lodged a missing complaint with Alipur Police, claiming that her husband had gone out and never returned. While the case was initially treated as a routine missing person report, it raised suspicion when there were no financial or digital footprints of the victim for several weeks. During the investigation, the team traced the mobile number linked to Pritam, which had become active again after nearly a year. Surveillance revealed that the phone was being used in Sonipat, leading the team to Rohit. On being questioned, Rohit initially misled the investigators but later broke down and confessed to the crime, police said. Rohit told police that he was in a relationship with Soniya and that the two had conspired to kill Pritam, DCP Indora said. He admitted that Soniya allegedly paid Vijay to eliminate her husband. Around the same time, Haryana Police recovered an unidentified male body from the area, but were unable to identify it. The case remained unsolved until Delhi Police connected the dots nearly a year later. Police said Soniya later sold Pritam's auto rickshaw for Rs 4.5 lakh and gave his mobile phone to Rohit. DNA samples preserved during the Haryana post-mortem will now be used to conclusively identify the body. Soniya was about 15 years old when she fell in love with Pritam and got married against their families wishes. 'The marriage was never reported to the police by the families, who later accepted the couple. They have three children from the wedlock, including a 16-year-old boy and two daughters,' the DCP said. He said Rohit was previously involved in four criminal cases related to murder and arms possession. Rohit, who got married in April 2025 and used to work as a private cab driver, continued his extramarital affair with Soniya. Police are searching for Vijay, who is currently absconding, the DCP Indora said.
