College football powers Notre Dame, Clemson agree to 12-year scheduling agreement from 2027 to 2038
That relationship will become even more familiar in the future after the two college football powers announced a 12-year home-and-home scheduling agreement on Tuesday that will pit them against each other annually from 2027 through 2038.
Clemson and Notre Dame were already scheduled to play in 2027, 2028, 2031, 2034 and 2037. Under the revamped schedule, the Tigers will host the games during odd-numbered years during that time frame, while the Fighting Irish will host the games in even-numbered years. Clemson holds a 5-3 advantage in the all-time series, which has been highlighted by some memorable matchups.
The teams have played six times since 2015 with Clemson winning four times, including both postseason matchups.
Clemson defeated Notre Dame 30-3 in the College Football Playoff national semifinal at the Cotton Bowl in 2018 before winning the national title two weeks later. In 2020, Notre Dame, playing as a full-time member of the Atlantic Coast Conference because of COVID-19 scheduling concerns, beat the Tigers in a shootout, only to lose to Clemson in the ACC championship.
'Even in just the last decade, matchups between Clemson and Notre Dame have produced incredibly memorable moments and games,' Clemson director of athletics Graham Neff said in a release. 'We have immense excitement for the creation of this 12-year series between these two premier programs, as we know these will be must-see matchups for fans at Memorial Stadium and Notre Dame Stadium as well as television audiences nationwide.'
Both teams reached the expanded College Football Playoff field last year, with the Irish advancing to the national championship game before losing to Ohio State 34-23.
Clemson has won nine or more games in 14 straight seasons — the nation's second-longest active streak and the fourth-longest streak in major college football history. Notre Dame has won nine or more games in the last eight seasons.
'We strive to consistently create a football schedule that positions us for success in the College Football Playoff, and that goal requires us to form historic partnerships like this one with Clemson,' Notre Dame vice president and director of athletics Pete Bevacqua said. 'This rivalry has already produced some of the most memorable moments in recent college football history, and our fans deserve these matchups to continue to make those indelible memories.'

Santa Clara extends coach Herb Sendek's contract through 2029-30 season
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Santa Clara basketball coach Herb Sendek signed a contract extension on Monday that will keep him at the school through the 2029-30 season. Athletic director Heather Owen said she believes Sendek is the right person to lead the Broncos' program. 'I have been impressed with his ability to navigate the ever-changing landscape that is college athletics while remaining true to our Santa Clara values,' she said in a statement. 'He is one of the best teachers in the game and we are grateful to have him as the leader of our program.' Sendek was originally hired in 2016 and is set to enter his 10th season at the helm for Santa Clara. He has a 161-120 record for the Broncos and has the fourth most wins in program history. The Broncos have won at least 20 games in five of the past six seasons, falling short only in the COVID-shortened 20-game campaign in 2020-21. Santa Clara has finished in the top four in the West Coast Conference in four straight seasons. Sendek has a 574-415 career record at Miami of Ohio, N.C. State, Arizona State and Santa Clara. AAC rebrands as American Conference in move designed to fuel growth in changing college landscape
The American Athletic Conference is rebranding itself as, simply, the American Conference as part of a wide-ranging effort it says is designed to fuel growth and elevate its position in a quickly changing college-sports landscape. The 15-team football conference also on Monday unveiled a new slogan — 'Built To Rise' — and introduced Soar the Eagle as a new mascot. Both will be featured in promotions and public service announcements that air during games involving its teams. By changing names, the conference will get rid of the 'AAC' nickname that often got confused with the Power Four's ACC — Atlantic Coast Conference. It wants to be known as the 'American Conference,' or the 'American.' American's commissioner, Tim Pernetti, has been aggressive about positioning the conference in the name, image and likeness era, announcing earlier this year that all members except Army and Navy would be required to revenue share at least $10 million over the next three seasons; it was the first league to set such a minimum standard. Under the new NIL rules, schools are allowed to share up to $20.5 million in revenue in the 2025-26 season. 'This modernization is rooted in who we are and where we're headed,' Pernetti said. 'It prioritizes clarity, momentum, and the competitive advantage driving every part of our conference forward.' These are fraught days for the Group of Five conferences, which includes the American, and whose teams have been constant targets in an era of realignment. Since 2023, the American has lost Cincinnati, UCF and SMU but has added seven teams: Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB, UT-San Antonio and Army (for football). It now has 15 teams.
