(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: A part-time hotel worker pleaded guilty in the sessions court in George Town, Penang, today to charges of raping and committing unnatural sex with an Australian woman. S Prasanth, 25, who made the plea before judge Juraidah Abbas, requested time to appoint a lawyer to represent him, Bernama reported.
Advertisement Prasanth is charged with raping the woman in a car and putting her in fear by pointing a metal scissors at her at a cemetery in Mount Erskine between 5.20am and 6am on June 28. The charge, under Section 376(2)(b) of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping upon conviction. He is also charged with committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature without consent with the woman at the same time and location. The charge, under Section 377C of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment of five to 20 years and whipping. The prosecution, led by Penang prosecution director Nordin Ismail and deputy public prosecutor Lee Jun Keong, did not offer any bail because of the seriousness of the offence and sensitivity surrounding bilateral relations between Malaysia and Australia. 'We do not want this matter to give a bad impression to foreign tourists who come to Malaysia. We cannot tolerate such offences,' said Nordin. "Avoid making financial transactions through personal accounts or companies that are not legally registered," he said. Yesterday, Shah Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim was reported to have said that his team is investigating a case involving the dissemination of pornographic videos by an independent preacher.

ALOR SETAR, July 6 (Bernama) – A family of six, including a six-month-old baby, are feared missing after their family members lost contact with them since Saturday. The disappearance of Mohd Azim Ezzat Ishak, 32, his wife Nurul Hidayah Khalijah Razman Effendy, 31, and their four children, aged between six months and nine years, was realised when they did not return to their home in Jerlun after spending the night at another family member's house in Taman Aman, Jitra. According to Mohd Azim Ezzat's younger sister, Nur Adliah Shuhada, in her 20s, her brother's family usually spent the night at her house on Fridays. "I thought they had returned to Jerlun because my brother, who works as a security guard, usually leaves early in the morning, and my sister-in-law runs a business. But when my brother's mother-in-law called and said they hadn't arrived home, I started to worry and tried to contact them but failed. "Then I received information about a Proton Saga car in Sungai Korok (in Jitra), but the licence plate number did not match my brother's car," she said here. Nur Adliah Shuhada said that a police report has been lodged at the Jitra Police Station regarding the disappearance of her brother and his family. "I also posted about their disappearance on Facebook, and as of 10:30 pm tonight, they still haven't been located," she added. Woman airlifted after lion attack at Brisbane zoo
SYDNEY: A woman has been airlifted to the hospital after being bitten by a lion at a zoo in the Australian state of Queensland, Xinhua reported. Emergency services were called to the Darling Downs Zoo, 110km southwest of Brisbane, around 8.30am on Sunday following reports that a woman in her 50s had been attacked by an animal. The woman, an employee of the zoo, suffered a significant arm injury and was airlifted to a Brisbane hospital in a stable condition. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that the animal involved in the incident was a lion and that the woman lost an arm. The zoo said in a statement posted on social media on Sunday afternoon that the woman was watching zookeepers working in the carnivore precinct when the animal grabbed her by the arm. It said that at no stage did the animal leave its enclosure and there was no risk to the public. The zoo said that the animal involved would not be put down or punished in any way. "Police and Workplace Health and Safety personnel are investigating this incident and have been onsite all morning. The zoo is working with them to establish how this incident occurred," it said. The Darling Downs Zoo, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in June, houses tigers, leopards, and lions. - BERNAMA
