But should they do, it would mark the first transfer between the Reds and rivals United for 61 years.

The last player to switch between the two was Phil Chisnall, who left Old Trafford for Anfield in 1964.
That almost ended in 2007 when United's Gabriel Heinze demanded a move to Liverpool after falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson.
But the legendary manager refused to cave in and instead sold Heinze to Real Madrid.
There have been instances of players starring for both United and Liverpool without transferring directly between the two.

Paul Ince left United for Inter Milan in 1995 after two title wins.
But he was soon back in England when Liverpool came calling in 1997.
Elsewhere, Michael Owen scored 158 goals for his boyhood Merseyside club before joining Real Madrid in 2004.
A year later he signed for Newcastle and ended up moving to United in 2009, where he eventually won a Premier League title.

Break transfer record with Liverpool or overtake Shearer at Newcastle… SunSport debates whether Isak should stay or go
ALEXANDER ISAK is at the centre of a tug-of-war between Newcastle and Liverpool. SunSport makes a case whether he should lead the Toon into the Champions League or become 7 Alexander Isak is wanted by Liverpool this summer Credit: Rex 7 He has hit 62 goals since his arrival at Newcastle in 2022 Credit: Getty Tyne to go... says Martin Lipton FOR And while he can remain a 'Local Hero' on Tyneside by staying at Newcastle, strutting his stuff on the Anfield stage under the direction of Arne Slot will be tough to resist. The Swede has flourished for Eddie Howe in his three years with the Toon. Seen as a less-than-clinical finisher at Real Sociedad, Isak, 25, is a very different proposition with Newcastle. READ MORE ON FOOTBALL He has netted 54 Premier League goals in the three seasons since his Toon-record £60million move, with 62 in all competitions and a career club total of 129. Those numbers alone help suggest why Liverpool are ready to smash the British record and pay £120m to lure the Swede. But 6ft 3in Isak has become an all-round striker: physically robust, able to come short or run in behind, rapid and just as good in the air as when he has the ball at his feet. In short, exactly what a side aiming to conquer Europe and the Prem should be looking for. Most read in Football JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS And given the chance to become the new spearhead of Slot's well-drilled Kop machine, it will take a man of stern resolve to say 'No' — even before the wage offer is made. Newcastle are ready to throw everything they have to keep Isak. But if Liverpool are Fans convinced they know what Virgil van Dijk said to Newcastle hero Alexander Isak after Carabao Cup final Isak knows he would be the lead weapon in Slot's already-stacked attacking armoury. Mo Salah is coming off the back of his greatest season yet — with 29 goals and 18 assists in the Prem alone. And don't forget 7 Newcastle could replace Isak with Hugo Ekitike Credit: Getty 7 Even the most devout soldier in the Toon Army could not, hand on heart, say Isak can win more with them than Liverpool. When you hang up your boots, people don't ask what you earned. They ask what you won. Tyne to stay... says Gary Stonehouse HE IS already Alexander the Great... but the GREATEST is another matter. The opportunity to topple Newcastle icon Alan Shearer — both in numbers and stature — should be something the Swede relishes. Liverpool's lure, both financially and on the pitch, is hard for anyone to resist, let alone one of Europe's hottest strikers. But the chance to prove yourself as the very best at a club famed for its forwards should be even more difficult to turn down. That, plus the promise of a long-term deal to make him Newcastle's highest-ever earner, should be all Isak thinks about. He enjoys God-like status on Tyneside after his goal proved decisive in securing a 2-1 Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool at Wembley in March. 7 Isak has won the Carabao Cup with the Toon Credit: Alamy 7 Alan Shearer was never able to win a trophy with the club Credit: PA Not even Shearer could deliver a trophy to the long-suffering Toon Army. Any Geordie would tell you Isak has already repaid the club-record £60million the Magpies paid Real Sociedad in 2022. Despite ending that 70-year wait for major domestic silverware, Isak has a long way to go to surpass Shearer's club-record haul of 206 goals. But his record of 62 in 109 appearances suggests he could lead Eddie Howe's side to even greater success. Some even believe the 25-year-old could surpass Shearer's tally. The incentives don't stop there. Toon sources have already indicated they will break the club's £150,000-a-week wage ceiling to keep him. That would bring a net pay rise of at least £70,000-a-week and an annual package worth more than £10m. The chase for Eintracht Frankfurt striker The Magpies have already added to Isak's supply line by bringing in And plans for a mega new stadium — plus Champions League qualification for the second time in three seasons — shows Saudi-backed Toon are ready to mix it at the top table. And if he signs a long-term deal, you would back Isak to blast in the 145 goals needed over the next six or seven years to become Alexander the Greatest. 7

Chelsea signing Morgan Rogers could fire them to title with English core to rival days of John Terry and Frank Lampard
IF world champions Chelsea sign Morgan Rogers, they will fancy their chances of becoming the kings of England too. And perhaps one of the most English squads to lift the title in the cosmopolitan Premier League era. 6 Chelsea could become Premier League champions if they sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers 6 Cole Palmer has a long history with Rogers from their time together at Manchester City When England boss Thomas Tuchel took his squad to the Spanish Grand Prix before their World Cup qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona, Blues' quintet There is a clear drive to bring in English stars as they try to bring back the days when John Terry, Frank Lampard and the Coles - Ashley and Joe - were central to turning the club into domestic and European heavyweights. Read More on Chelsea The Blues have already signed England Under-21 internationals Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens this summer. And while it is true that Madueke is set to leave, and Chalobah may follow, along with another Englishman in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, plenty of homegrown influence will remain. Tosin Adarabioyo is a former England youth international, while teenage Academy products Tyrique George, Josh Acheampong and Omari Kellyman have all represented England at junior level. After Most read in Football CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS 6 Colwill was bullish about the team's chances of adding further big trophies to the first silverware under the new owners. And signing Cole Palmer and Chelsea celebrate in style as they arrive back at their hotel after Club World Cup victory There are plenty of hurdles to overcome before that. Not least Villa's desire to avoid, if at all possible, having to cash in on their best player. But once these things are out in the open, and when the potential buyers know the potential sellers need to raise money, a deal can start to gain momentum. Rogers, too, may feel that the time is right to make his next move, even after less than 18 months at Villa Park. The failure to secure a return to the Champions League was a big blow for the club. But Rogers' performances in the competition last season will have given him a taste for it and the belief that he could force his way into Chelsea's already star-studded frontline. 6 Rogers could help Chelsea recreate a strong English core, similar to the days of John Terry 6 Terry and Frank Lampard led Chelsea's English core back in the glory days Palmer is the Blues' main man and he and Rogers are close after growing up together in Manchester City's Academy. Palmer has admitted nicking his trademark 'cold' celebration from Rogers. But he would no doubt give his former team-mate a warm welcome to London. They would not be the only former City youngsters to pitch up at Stamford Bridge. Tosin was there between the ages of six and 23, Gittens had two years in the academy in his mid-teens before joining Borussia Dortmund and Delap played under Maresca when the current Chelsesa boss was in charge of City's B team. If Chelsea were to become regular contenders for football's biggest prizes, questions would be asked about City's readiness to sell homegrown English stars. Chelsea emulating Man City One of the few things that Pep Guardiola and former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho have ever agreed on is the importance of native players to creating champions. During City's dominance of English football, it is surely no coincidence that their players have also been prominent in the revival of the national team. Kyle Walker, John Stones, Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph were part of the England squad that reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finalS. Phil Foden replaced Delph as the City contingent stayed at four for the delayed Euro 2020 tournament. Eighteen months later at the Qatar World Cup, there were five: Stones, Walker, Foden, Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips. Foden, Stones and Walker were all at Euro 2024, too. Now Chelsea's young English contingent are set to be the core of international squads for years to come. Former Blues boss Tuchel's first task is to try to make the Three Lions into world champions next year. If Chelsea can add Rogers to their ranks, he and his new club-mates could go to the World Cup as Premier League winners. 6
