Final defendant sentenced in 2022 fatal shooting outside East High
The Polk County Attorney's Office said Nyang Mai Chamdual was sentenced to life in prison on Friday. Because of his age at the time of the shooting, 14, he will have the possibility of parole. He previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and has been held at the Boys State Training School in Eldora. He turns 18 next month.

Chamdual was one of 10 teens charged in the March 7, 2022 shooting that killed 15-year-old Jose Lopez and injured Kemery Ortega and Jessica Lopez Torres. The three were outside of East High School when shots were fired from three passing vehicles.
The Polk County Attorney's Office says Chamdual fired a .38 revolver from the back seat of a Ford F-150 truck in the incident.
During sentencing, Chamdual's attorney Van Plumb argued for leniency for his client and said he had made 'tremendous leaps and bounds toward his rehabilitation,' and that 'He's a changed man.' Chamdual received his high school diploma while incarcerated.
In the end, Chief Judge Michael Huppert sentenced Chamdual to life in prison with the possibility of parole. He applauded Chamdual's progress but said it did not balance the scales of his actions.
Huppert did not set a mandatory minimum sentence, leaving the decision on when Chamdual is released up to the Board of Parole.
Chamdual must also pay restitution of $150,000 to Jose Lopez's estate.
The Polk County Attorney's Office provided a summary of the other defendants and their dispositions, along with their current age:
Alex Santiago Perdomo, 18, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, because he was a juvenile at the time of the crime.
Romeo Perdomo, 20, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, because he was a juvenile at the time of the crime.
Octavio Lopez Sanchez Jr., 20, was sentenced to 70 years in prison in January 2024. He had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of willful injury.
Daniel Hernandez, 21, was sentenced to 60 years in prison. He had pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and two counts of willful injury causing a serious injury. He was a juvenile at the time of the shooting.
Henry David Valladares Amaya, 21, was sentenced to 50 years in prison. He had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of willful injury causing serious injury. He was a juvenile at the time of the shooting.
Manuel De Jesus Buezo, 20, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of willful injury causing serious injury. He was a juvenile at the time of the shooting.
Braulio Damien Hernandez-Salas, 20, pleaded guilty to two charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Kevin Isidro Martinez, 19, pleaded guilty to two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Gumaro Marquez-Jacobo, 21, was sentenced to a four-year suspended sentence. He had pleaded guilty to one count of accessory after the fact, one count of person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon, and one count of providing a pistol or revolver to a person under 21.

Law enforcement officials are currently conducting a manhunt for an Army veteran who has been identified as the suspect responsible for fatally shooting four victims at a bar in Anaconda, Montana, on Friday. According to Fox News, law enforcement officials have confirmed that Michael Brown, a 45-year-old Army veteran, entered The Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana, at roughly 10:30 a.m. on Friday. After entering the bar, Brown allegedly shot and killed four victims. Fox News reported that the victims of Friday's shooting have been identified as 59-year-old Daniel Edwin Baillie, 64-year-old Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 70-year-old David Allen Leach, and 74-year-old Tony Wayne Palm. According to WNEP, Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen told reporters during a Sunday news conference that the 45-year-old Army veteran allegedly used a personal rifle to shoot and kill the four victims on Friday. A picture shared on Saturday on X, formerly Twitter, shows Brown walking down stairs without a shirt and shoes following Friday's shooting. In a post on Facebook, the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center warned Montana residents to avoid approaching the suspect. 'Be advised suspect in shooting is believed to be armed and dangerous. Suspect is Michael Paul Brown and was last seen in the stumptown area,' the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center stated. 'Public is advised to stay out of the stumptown area and surrounding areas. If seen do not approach. Contact 911 for any way to contact Michael Paul Brown.' Fox News reported that the Army Public Affairs told the outlet that Brown served in the Army from January of 2001 to May of 2005 as an armor crewman and was deployed to Iraq from February of 2004 to March of 2005. After leaving the Army with the rank of sergeant, Brown served in the National Guard from April of 2006 to March of 2008. Police seek suspect who shot, killed 4 people in Montana bar
Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Authorities are searching for a suspect in the shooting deaths of four people at a bar in a small town in western Montana. The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation identified the gunman in the shooting, which happened on Friday morning at the Owl Bar in Anaconda, Mont., as 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown. Anaconda is 130 miles east of Idaho and 198 miles west of Bozeman, Mont.. "This is a small, tight-knit community that has been harmed by the heinous actions of one individual today who does not represent what this community or Montanans stand for," Lee Johnson, with the agency, said. Johnson said his Ford F-150 pickup was found, and that officials were searching the mountains near Stumptown Road just west of Anaconda. Residents of the town, of whom there are roughly 10,000, were told Friday night to stay in their homes and be vigilant because he was considered armed and dangerous. SWAT team members cleared his home in neighboring Granite City, the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center said. The home is about 25 minutes from the bar. "I've bartended quite a few years, so I'm pretty familiar with most everyone," Sierra, a 7 Gables employee, told KPAX-TV about Brown. "I have met him multiple times. I have served him multiple times. I have had conversations with him multiple times. I have not served him up here yet. "We're waiting for the kitchen chef to be done so we can actually all leave together and so we all know each other made it safe." Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting in the investigation and the FBI's Deputy Director posted on X that agents are being sent to the area to assist. Montana Gov. Greg Gianfort also posted Friday on X that he was "closely monitoring the situation involving an active shooter in Anaconda." Officials have identified the four victims have been identified, but they declined to release their names until their families had been notified.
