While for JEE Advanced 2025 qualified students, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will be a go-to way, but for those who cracked the JEE Main and could not meet the JEE Advanced cutoff, NITs and IIITs will remain their options. India is home to 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 government-funded technical institutes (GFTIs). To guide students on which NIT or IIIT is better for different engineering courses, we have started a series to compare them on different parameters. In this article, we will compare NIT Trichy and IIIT Hyderabad for the Computer Science Engineering course.
Located in Tamil Nadu, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli was founded as a Regional Engineering College Tiruchirappalli in 1964 by the state government under the affiliation of the University of Madras. In 2003, the college was granted deemed university status and was renamed as the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, with approval from UGC, AICTE, and the Government of India. As of 2019, the NIT has 115 seats in the CSE course.
The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-H) is a deemed university in Hyderabad, India, established as a non-profit public-private partnership (N-PPP) model, and is the first IIIT in India to follow this model. As mentioned on the official website, there are 30 programmes with 2374 students and 105 faculty members and 25 research centres. The campus has various clubs for students, like the hacking club, the Astronautics club, the open source developers group, among others.
Every year, the Ministry of Education release the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). It ranks higher education institutions in India and is based on different parameters. It also helps students to make an informed decision about what to expect from an institution they are applying to.
Under the NIRF Rankings 2024, NIT Trichy secured a rank of 30 under the overall categories of institutions in India. Additionally, it ranks in the 9th spot under the engineering category of the rankings after the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. In the top ten of the engineering category, NIT Trichy is the sole NIT in 2024 and has left IIT BHU behind, which stands at the 10th spot.
Not only this, but NIT Trichy ranks at the 8th spot under the architecture and planning category of NIRF 2024. The institute ranks at 51th spot under the management category of the rankings.
In the NIRF 2024, the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, ranked in the bandwidth of 101-150. Under the engineering category, it ranked 47 with a score of 54.29. Last year, the Institute ranked 55th in the engineering category.
As the official website of the NIT Trichy, every year, 220 companies participate in the placement. In the academic session 2023-24, 96.9 per cent of undergraduate students in computer science participated in the placement; on the other hand, in the MTech CSE course, 93.3 per cent of students participated.
In the placement, some of the companies that participate are Intel, Morgan Stanley, HCL, Google, Facebook, Honeywell, Microsoft, HSBC, McAfee, Reliance, Pepsico, Tata, Samsung, among others.
As mentioned on the official website, in IIIT Hyderabad's placement, various top companies participate, like Bloomberg, Adobe, Facebook, Google, Opex, Indeed, Uber, Teradata, Walmart and Unacademy, among others. With two engineering programmes, CSE and ECE, IIIT in the academic session 2023-24, saw the highest salary package of Rs 65 LPA in CSE, and Rs 55 LPA for ECE.
In the previous academic year, 99 per cent of students in CSE and 98 per cent of students in ECE were placed with an average pay of Rs 31.49 LPA in CSE and Rs 21.30 LPA in ECE. The lowest salary in the last academic year for CSE was 10 LPA, and 10.97 LPA in ECE.
In NIT Trichy, there are various courses like architecture, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer applications, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, energy and environment, humanities and social sciences which provides just one course on MA in English language and literature, management, mathematics, mechanical engineering, production engineering, and metallurgical and materials engineering. In the year 2012, they established a Centre of Excellence in Corrosion and Surface Engineering and provide short-term courses for the students.
The Undergraduate Entrance Examination (UGEE) is held for all dual-degree programmes, while the Special Channel of Admission (SPEC) is meant for single-degree programmes. Students interested in dual-degree courses through lateral entry can apply via the Lateral Entry Entrance Examination (LEEE). Additionally, Olympiad winners have a dedicated admission channel. The Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA) option is available for both single and dual-degree programmes. The JEE (Main) route is applicable for single-degree programme admissions.
Under the core dual degree programme, there are four courses in BTech and a Master of Science by research in electronics & communication engineering or computer science engineering. Other programmes include BTech in Computer Science, MS in Computational Natural Sciences, and MS in Computing and Human Sciences by Research.

The model provides students real-time access to expert tutors and personalized learning tools, particularly aimed at board exams and competitive entrance tests. In this year's Class 12 Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) results, Latehar district jumped from 13th in 2023 to 1st in 2025. The district also received the Gold Award at the National E-Governance Awards. Koderma ranked second, with 10 JEE Mains and three JEE Advanced qualifiers from government schools, including one student who secured All India Rank 759. "We've seen a big shift in mindset. Earlier, students would hesitate to even ask questions. Now they're connecting to tutors even late at night before exams," said Tripti Bharti, principal of District CM School in Latehar. In conflict-affected West Singhbhum, government schools using SSK saw an 87.9% pass rate in Science, compared to 73.8% in non-SSK schools. Khunti recorded a 30-point gap between SSK and non-SSK results, with 26 students from government schools making it to engineering colleges including NITs. "Initially, I wasn't sure how many students would use the 24x7 support," said Minu Baraik, principal of KGBV Kalamati. "But I noticed they were gaining interest in Science and Maths. Now, I remind them personally to use it." Dumka, a district with consistent use of the platform for three years, reported a Science pass rate jump from 74.7% in 2023 to 88.4% in 2025, while non-SSK schools in the district fell to 54.2%. In Godda district, Science pass percentage rose by 8.2%, with SSK schools at 84% vs. 73.5% in others. "The best part is it's not just helping toppers. Even average students are improving. Many girls now talk about their careers and futures," said Sapna Rani Das, principal of KGBV CM Chaibasa. Students say the around-the-clock access made a difference. "I had always dreamt of cracking JEE but didn't know how to get there," said Aditya Prakash from SS 2 High School, Koderma, who scored 99.15 percentile in JEE Advanced. "A teacher from IIT Delhi kept believing in me, even when I didn't." Anwesha Singh, CBSE state topper from Latehar, said, "There are thousands of videos online, but they can't answer your doubts when you're stuck at 2 a.m. This support is live, it's human, and it helped me every time I panicked before tests." Filo says over 30,000 students across Jharkhand now use the platform. "Sampurna Shiksha Kavach is not just a model of tech adoption, it's a model of listening to students," said Imbesat Ahmad, co-founder of Filo. "We built tools to ensure no student falls behind. The credit goes to students and administrators who believed in the vision." With three national awards and rising results in remote and underserved regions, the AI-powered SSK model is emerging as a scalable solution for improving public education outcomes.

‘Grounded like Dhoni, driven to make a difference in my own small way'

— Shivam Kumar Sah Since childhood, I had this habit of breaking gadgets at home – not to destroy them, but to peek inside and understand how they worked. Compact Disc players, motors, toys – anything mechanical fascinated me. Maybe that curiosity was the earliest sign that I'd end up becoming an engineer. I used to watch the Discovery Channel, try building small things at home, and mess around with motors. The idea of engineering took root early. But the turning point came in Class 9, when my dad took me to the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati). It was love at first sight – the campus, the energy, the vibe. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be in an IIT. I began my Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) preparation in 2021, right in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdowns, after my Class 10 exams. Everything was online, and it was hard to stay motivated. Without physical classrooms or peer interaction, I couldn't measure where I stood. That lack of healthy competition made me complacent, and honestly, Class 11 just slipped by. Things changed in Class 12, when offline coaching resumed. Being surrounded by hardworking friends reminded me that I had to pull up my socks. I started staying longer at the coaching centre, studying with peers, and slowly, the rhythm returned. With a lot of effort, support from teachers, blessings from my parents, and God's grace — I made it. Not exactly the way I dreamed, but I ticked that first big box. I appeared for JEE Main and Advanced in 2023, securing an All India Rank of 13,846 at JEE Advanced. It was my first attempt. I initially got Industrial Chemistry at IIT BHU, but I later changed my branch in the first semester to Mechanical Engineering, which was much closer to my interests. My dream was, however, always to pursue Aerospace, but I am happy with Mechanical – it is still about building things, solving problems, and creating real-world systems. I stepped into IIT BHU Varanasi in 2023. My parents dropped me off at the hostel. I was emotional, even scared – but that changed in a few days. Because hostels are like a wild jungle full of fearless people. You meet all kinds – the kind you've never imagined, and yet, they feel like family so quickly. In the first month, we didn't study much. We just roamed every inch of the campus, laughed, got lost, found ourselves again, and discovered our own spaces. That's how adjusting became easy – because we were all new, all figuring things out together. Fests, events, and random conversations made friendships blossom. Mess food isn't like home-cooked food, of course. But eating it with your second family – your friends – slowly made it better. We used to joke, complain, experiment with snacks – that's how bonding happens. I love staying engaged, so I joined various clubs and cells. I got into the Robotics and Programming Clubs, and now I'm an active member of the Training and Placement Cell of IIT Banaras Hindu University (BHU). I believe in staying busy – when I'm idle, I feel unproductive. Taking responsibility, working with teams, building things – it keeps me motivated. Balancing academics and clubs wasn't too hard. I made it a point to attend classes regularly, which helped me understand concepts and reduce last-minute pressure. A few weeks before exams, I'd buckle down. The rest of the time? I'd be building bots, organising fests, or chilling with friends. IIT isn't just about studying. You really live life here. Every weekend brings something – a fest, a hackathon, a guest lecture. And, most importantly, you're surrounded by people who motivate you to do better – not by pushing you down, but by growing together. Being at IIT has transformed me. I used to depend on my mom for everything. Now I manage my own routine, my own mess, my own setbacks. I've developed a more serious, grounded perspective on life. And through it all, I still hold on to one of M S Dhoni's quotes that has stuck with me: 'I want to be remembered more as a good human being than a good cricketer.' That's how I want to live – not just as a good engineer, but as a good human being. I've learned that you don't need to be the best at everything, but you should always believe – till the very last second. That belief has carried me across the line more times than talent alone ever could. My days are a mix of classes, tea breaks at Limbdi Corner, samosa with friends, and long walks around the Vishwanath Temple. Sometimes we go to the ghats of Varanasi, especially at night – the spiritual energy of the city is unmatched. I spend time in club rooms, working on robotics projects or prepping for events. I love this hands-on energy – it keeps me grounded. The teachers at IIT BHU are incredible. They're helpful, responsive, and some of them treat you like family. I still remember going to a professor's home on Bihu – he was from Guwahati too, and that evening felt like a warm slice of home. We were treated to traditional food, laughter, and care – something I'll never forget. I manage my expenses through a mix of sources – I've won a few competitions, done an internship, and, of course, my parents support me monthly. I still love playing cricket, and nowadays I've developed a liking for late-night badminton sessions with friends. It's refreshing after a long day. And yes, I write poems. It's something that calms me. A private space where I can reflect, imagine, and express what I don't say out loud. I hope I keep writing as life goes on. Also, I have a strong interest in politics – who knows, maybe one day I'll explore that field too. After all, engineers have become politicians before. What I miss the most about Guwahati isn't just the food or the weather – it's the people. My parents, my school friends, my teachers, the entire environment. I miss those early morning cricket matches during vacations – playing with a carefree mind, without any worry about the future. To be honest, I'm still exploring. I'm deeply interested in the evolving field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and I hope to work in a space that blends AI and engineering to solve meaningful, real-world problems. But, more importantly, whatever I do, I want it to be connected to the common people. I strongly believe in giving back to society – whether it's through tech, service, or something else. I want to create something or contribute in a way that makes life a little better for someone else. And if life takes me in a different direction – maybe even into public service or politics – I won't mind, as long as it's driven by purpose. Trichy: Indian intervention led to the postponement of the Axiom Mission 4 launch originally scheduled for July 11, ensuring the safety of astronaut Shubanshu Shukla and three others, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation ( Isro ) and secretary of the department of space, V Narayanan, has said. Speaking at the 21st convocation of the National Institute of Technology, Trichy (NIT-T) here on Saturday, Narayanan recalled the original launch of Axiom Mission 4 was scheduled for June 11, but on the morning of June 10, a liquid oxygen leak in the booster engine of the rocket was detected. "The rocket, which was supposed to take into space along with Shubanshu Shukhla and three other astronauts from different countries, had developed a problem. It was the Indian team that raised concerns and ensured the launch was called off on the evening of June 10 at 5.15pm, as the rocket was deemed unsafe to fly. The cracks were later fixed, and the rocket successfully lifted off on June 25, placing all the astronauts safely in orbit," he said. "Every Indian must be proud that, through our education system, knowledge, and the support of Isro, we were able to call off a mission in time to ensure the safety of the astronauts. Today, it is part of history that they were launched and brought back safely," he added. The Isro chairman also presented a model of the GSLV Mk-3 rocket to the institution. Praising India's space efforts, he said, "We have so far launched six rockets, with the heaviest being the GSLV Mark-3 vehicle, through which we placed Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3 in orbit, completed commercial missions, and launched 72 foreign satellites. The same rocket is now set to lift a 6,500kg communication satellite of the USA into orbit. It will also carry Indian crew members to space in 2027." NIT-T director G Aghila presented a report about the academic, research accomplishments and reiterated its 9th ranking in NIRF and 31st among all higher education institutions. A total of 2,045 degrees were awarded which includes 175 Phd, 5 MS, 483 MTech, 18 M Arch, 95 MBA, 109 MCA, 90 17 M A, 995 B tech and 58 B Arch. Earlier, speaking to reporters at Trichy airport, Narayanan said, "On July 30, the NASA-Isro synthetic aperture radar satellite will be launched using GSLV mark 2 vehicle. The satellite is jointly realised by India, Isro and JPL (USA). This satellite is going to be useful for the global community in earth observation and disaster mitigation areas. It is an important satellite, and it will be the 102nd launch from Indian soil. "
