Suspected firearm sends diving teams into canal at Clydebank
The Glasgow Times understands that police divers were in the water for several hours this morning and the force confirmed that a BB gun was in fact found.

An eyewitness told the Glasgow Times: "I saw loads of police at the foot bridge at the canal near the shopping centre."
Another added: "Something happened in Clydebank. Police divers under the bridge just at the shopping centre. I hope it's just a training exercise."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 5.50pm on Wednesday, 30 July, 2025, police received a report of a possible firearm within the water at the Clyde and Forth Canal near Kilbowie Road.
'A water search was carried out and a BB gun was recovered.'
The force provided no further information in relation to the discovery.

Officers say the death is not being treated as suspicious. Fife Ice Arena is the home of Fife Flyers ice hockey club however the venue had been closed for maintenance ahead of the start of the new season, which gets underway in September. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'We were called around 10.25am on Tuesday to a report of a person taken unwell in the Rosslyn Street area of Kirkcaldy. 'Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. 'There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.' Man who died on major road near Irvine pictured by police
Abraham Torrance, 70, from Kilmarnock, passed away following a crash on the A71 westbound between the Corsehillmount Roundabout and Warrix Interchange near Irvine. The incident happened shortly after 11am on Thursday, July 31, and involved a grey Kia Ceed and a white DAF HGV. Emergency crews raced to the area; however, sadly, Mr Torrance, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has since asked for privacy. Luckily, no one else was injured during the crash. Staff and officers at Rutherglen police station to be moved
Police Scotland announced that response officers and staff based at the Rutherglen police station in South Lanarkshire will be relocated to the nearby Cambuslang station on Wednesday, August 6. The force say the move comes following a series of health and safety issues at the Rutherglen office and that the decision to do so 'was not made lightly'. The building is said to be in a poor condition and is no longer fit for operational purposes. Police Scotland noted that if a proposal is made to dispose of the Rutherglen station, a public consultation will be held. 'The decision to move officers was not made lightly, but the health and safety of our colleagues must come first. 'We want to reassure the public that despite this move, there will be no disruption to the level of service provided, covering Cambuslang and Rutherglen. 'We have carried out work to ensure Cambuslang police station is fully equipped to support our officers and staff and to maintain a high standard of service to the public. 'Officers will start their shifts at Cambuslang police station and will remain active out in the community as they do now. 'Our officers are fully mobile, equipped with advanced technology, allowing them to patrol and respond effectively without relying on a fixed location. 'Our officers spend the majority of their shift out in the community – that will not change. At this stage, no decision has been made regarding the future of Rutherglen, including any potential disposal. 'If a proposal is made to dispose of Rutherglen police station in the future, a public consultation would be opened.
