Why Cole Palmer's boyhood pal will not be copying celebration if he scores for Stockport

Cole Palmer has claimed the 'cold' celebration for himself during his sensational spell at Chelsea but one of his close pals refuses to copy the England star even if he finds the net Cole Palmer's childhood friend Lewis Fiorini refuses to copy his pal's celebration in the face of potential ridicule. The Chelsea star has regularly deployed his trademark 'cold' celebration during his time at Stamford Bridge. ‌ And having scored 43 goals for the Blues since his move from Manchester City in 2023, supporters have been treated to the celebration on a host of occasions. And while Palmer has become synonymous with it, his childhood friend Fiorini is not as convinced. ‌ The Stockport County man admits that he would not follow his pal's lead should he find the net having revealed the roots of the celebration. Speaking to The Sun, the 23-year-old said: 'I wouldn't do it. I can imagine the messages I'd get if I did. It's not for me, that one. ‌ 'But that celebration is actually pretty new. He didn't do that when he was younger, I don't know where he's pulled that one from! He's made it his trademark now, though. Everyone's looking to do it. 'Cole's just a lad from Manchester - fame definitely hasn't changed him. He's the same kid everyone sees in interviews and things people see online. That's him, that's Cole being himself and that's good. Some people change when they get to that level but it's credit to him that he's not done that. 'When people interview him, they get what he is whereas other people try and change or become media trained. Cole and I played at City together from being five or six-years-old right the way until I left last summer. 'So we were together for 15 or 16 years and played in midfield together. We've been close all that time.' And while Fiorini has revealed that Palmer's celebration is brand-new, another of his childhood friends, Aston Villa 's Morgan Rogers, revealed that it was his first. He said: "Yeah, it's true. Cheeky boy, isn't he? He's run with it. ‌ "I'll let him have it - he's scored 40 goals or something stupid so I can't really argue with that, can I?" Palmer himself confirmed that he had stolen the celebration from Rogers. He said: "My boy Morgs did one for Middlesbrough, so I told him I'd do it too if I scored." Both Palmer and Rogers will certainly hope that they will be celebrating plenty this season. Chelsea get their Premier League campaign underway against Crystal Palace in a fortnight, while Villa's season starts against Newcastle.

Former Chelsea and Arsenal cult hero announces shock move to Cypriot champions after leaving Brazilian side

The champions of Cyprus have announced the surprise signing of a Premier League cult hero. The 38-year-old is best remembered for his time at Chelsea but also went on to spend two seasons with their London rivals Arsenal. David Luiz spent nine seasons in the Premier League in total before leaving for his native Brazil in 2021. He spent the second half of last season with Fortaleza but became a free agent on August 1, leaving the club by mutual consent. And his next move has been confirmed just days later with Pafos confirming that he has joined them on a two-year deal. A club statement read: 'Pafos FC is proud to announce the signing of Brazilian football icon David Luiz, who joins the club on a contract until 2027. This landmark transfer marks the most historic moment in Cypriot football — the arrival of a global superstar whose name has echoed in the world's greatest stadiums. 'From the sacred pitches of Brazil to the brightest stages of Europe, David Luiz's career is a journey of passion, character, and excellence. 'David Luiz Moreira Marinho is a true titan of modern football. For over 15 years, he has competed at the pinnacle of the sport, earning admiration around the globe for his commanding presence, technical brilliance, and unmistakable charisma. Throughout his illustrious career, he has left a lasting legacy at every club he has represented. 'And now, he brings his unmatched experience, charisma, and warrior spirit to the land of myths, to write a new chapter with Pafos FC. Luiz re-joined boyhood club Flamengo in 2021 after his contract at Arsenal expired - and he went on to enjoy success in South America. He made 132 matches for the side in his second spell and helped them win the Copa Libertadores, the Copa do Brasil twice and the Campeonato Carioca. At club level, Luiz has a CV to envy with a host of trophy wins to boast - including the Champions League, the Europa League, the Premier League title and the FA Cup - plus a clean sweep of silverware in France. He made his name with Chelsea - signing from Benfica in 2010 - and going on to make 143 appearances, before joining PSG for two seasons.
