Pollachi train passengers highlight various demands

The Hindu04-06-2025
The Pollachi Train Passengers Welfare Association has submitted a petition to the Railway Board and the Governor of Maharashtra, C.P. Radhakrishnan, pressing for the fulfilment of five vital demands concerning the Pollachi-Coimbatore and Palakkad-Pollachi-Dindigul sections of the Southern Railway.
Association president S. Balakrishnan emphasised that the Pollachi Junction serves four taluks- Pollachi, Kinathukadavu, Anaimalai and Valparai, and was in urgent need of improved rail connectivity for the benefit of tourists, pilgrims, professionals, students, and traders.
The association has called for the extension of the Bengaluru-Coimbatore Uday Express (Train Nos.: 22665/22666) to Pollachi and Kinathukadavu to benefit the large number of IT and private sector professionals from Pollachi and nearby regions who frequently travel to Bengaluru. It also sought the extension of the Ernakulam-Palakkad MEMU (Train Nos.: 66610/66609) to Pollachi via Anaimalai Road, which would greatly benefit students, employees, and tourists.
The association has also proposed to the authorities, the introduction of a direct overnight train from Pollachi to Chennai Central via Kinathukadavu, Erode, and Katpadi that departs from Pollachi Jn. at 9 p.m., instead of the existing Palakkad-MGR Central daily express that departs from Pollachi Jn. at 5.20 p.m.
It highlighted the need for a direct Tirunelveli-Mumbai (Dadar) Express via Palani, Pollachi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, and Madgaon (Goa) to improve connectivity to Udupi, Goa and Mumbai, benefitting pilgrims, tourists and businessmen. It also suggested increasing the frequency of the existing Tirunelveli- Mumbai Dadar Express (Train Nos.: 22630/22629).
Finally, the association has demanded an increase in the number of coaches in the Tiruchendur-Palakkad unreserved express (Train Nos.: 16731/16732) which currently has only 12 coaches. Citing daily overcrowding, the association has requested four additional unreserved and two to three reserved coaches, especially to serve the elderly, women, and children. Despite repeated petitions over the past seven years, the association noted that there had been no positive response and appealed for immediate action.

Zolostays' first investor Nexus Venture to check out after a decade

MUMBAI : Ten years after placing its early bet on Zolostays, Nexus Venture Partners is preparing to exit the co-living firm, according to three people in the know. The startup, now valued at about ₹1,500–1,600 crore, has trimmed its non-core operations and is courting new investors, as it looks to scale in the competitive premium co-living space. 'Nexus has initiated talks with several VC (venture capital) funds and some strategics. It is looking to sell its entire 27% stake," one of the persons cited above said. The Bengaluru-based startup, which has raised about $113 million so far from a clutch of investors through debt and equity, has been struggling to grow beyond its core markets. The company had recently sold its student housing business that manages accommodation for colleges and universities to Good Host Spaces for $12.5 million. Zolostays said this sale was a part of the strategy to focus on its core business of managing co-living spaces. At that time, the company had said that the proceeds from the sale will allow it to concentrate on its main business activities, improve cash flow, strengthen overall financial health, and bring higher operational efficiencies. As per data available with Tracxn, Zolostays' fundraising includes a $56 million Series C round led by Investcorp and Mirae Asset. The company had also raised about $30 million in 2019 from investors led by IDFC Alternatives, Mirae Asset and Nexus Venture. Nexus VP has been one of Zolostays' biggest backers, having invested in the company since 2015. 'Nexus has stayed its course in the company and is now looking to sell," said the second person familiar with the development. When contacted, a Zolostays spokesperson denied there was any deal imminent. A Nexus Venture spokesperson did not respond to emailed queries. Founded in 2015 by Nikhil Sikri, Akhil Sikri and Sneha Choudhry, Zolostays had started out with a $1 million funding from Nexus Venture. Akhil Sikri left the company in 2023, and is now the chief technology officer at Apsona, a SaaS firm. A third person in the know pegged the company's valuation at ₹1,500-1,600 crore. Zolostays provides premium co-living spaces to students, professionals and organizations, and it operates in more than 10 cities. As per Entrackr, Zolostays recorded an 11.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) growth in revenue to ₹204.4 crore during FY24, while its losses narrowed by 17.4% to ₹57 crore. The company is yet to detail its financials for the last fiscal. According to a Nasscom blog published in May, the demand for co-living spaces and stock for 2025 are estimated at 6.6 million and 0.3 million beds, respectively. Penetration for the sector is likely to improve from 5% in 2025 to over 10% by 2030, it said. 'India's co-living market is on an upward growth trajectory, with demand rebounding strongly in recent years and operators gearing up for expansion across Tier-I cities and select Tier-II cities," the blog said. "The resurgence of the sector is being fueled by rapid urbanization and migration to cities, especially amongst students and young professionals who continue to seek flexible, relatively affordable, community-driven, and hassle-free housing options," it said.

Sattva-Blackstone backed KRT gets Sebi nod to launch Rs 4,800-cr REIT-IPO

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) Knowledge Realty Trust, sponsored by realty firm Sattva Group and Blackstone, has got Sebi approval to launch its REIT public offering to raise Rs 4,800 crore fund. Last month, Knowledge Realty Trust (KRT) had raised Rs 1,400 crore from investors ahead of its maiden REIT public issue. In early March, the KRT filed the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with Sebi to launch an initial public offering (IPO) and list the REIT on stock exchanges. This is part of a strategy to monetise its 30 prime office assets across major cities. According to sources, KRT received Sebi approval to launch its REIT-IPO, which is scheduled to hit the capital markets in the first week of August. The company plans to raise Rs 4,800 crore through the public issue as it has already raised Rs 1,400 crore from investors, they added. Sattva Group spokesperson declined to comment. The company will start the roadshow this week, and the price band is likely to be announced on August 30. KRT is set to become India's largest REIT by gross asset value (around Rs 62,000 crore). Its net operating income stood at Rs 3,432 crore in the previous fiscal year. The KRT owns over 46 millions sq ft of office assets across 29 assets in six cities, primarily Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The assets include One BKC and One World Center in Mumbai, Knowledge City, and Knowledge Park in Hyderabad and Cessna Business Park and Sattva Softzone in Bengaluru. Blackstone and Sattva will continue to own about 80 per cent of the REIT. At present, there are four listed REITs in India — Brookfield India Real Estate Trust, Embassy Office Parks REIT, Mindspace Business Parks REIT, and Nexus Select Trust. Apart from Nexus Select Trust, the other three REITs are backed by rent-yielding office assets. Nexus owns a large portfolio of retail real estate spaces. Bengaluru-based Sattva Developers has so far constructed 74 million sq ft across seven Indian cities in commercial, residential, co-living, co-working, hospitality, and data centre sectors. An additional 75 million sq ft is in planning and implementation stage. Blackstone, one of the leading global investment firms, has a huge exposure in the Indian real estate market. The two sponsors have decided to adopt brand brand-neutral strategy to grow the KRT portfolio inorganically through third-party acquisitions. The existing four REITs have a combined portfolio of over 126 million sq ft of Grade A office and retail space across the country. Since their inception, these REITs have collectively distributed over Rs 21,000 crore to unitholders. India's top IT services firms wrap up Q1 with single-digit topline growth

India's top IT services firms delivered single-digit revenue growth in April-June, capping off a mixed, somewhat-sobering quarter as macroeconomic instability and geopolitical tensions weighed on global tech demand and delayed client decisionmaking. Management commentary painted a mixed picture, caution prevailed, yet industry CEOs also emphasised cost optimisation, vendor consolidation, and opportunities in AI makeovers. An overview of Q1 report cards of Indian IT giants shows year-on-year revenue growth ranging from 0.8 per cent (for Wipro) to 8.1 per cent (HCL Technologies). Axis Securities, while penning its results review on Infosys, noted that overall the business environment remains uncertain due to unresolved tariffs and geopolitical issues, prompting clients to be cautious with discretionary spending, and delaying decision-making. Nuvama Institutional Equities expects the demand environment to remain challenging for the next one-two quarters due to macro uncertainty. "However, we remain positive on medium-to-long-term outlook, as technology debt is very high for enterprises, which will warrant revival in spending as macro improves," Nuvama said in its report post-Infosys' results, that concluded the Q1 earnings season for Tier-1 IT services firms. TCS' revenue rose 1.3 per cent year-on-year to Rs 63,437 crore, while bottomline improved 5.9 per cent to Rs 12,760 crore. TCS MD and Chief Executive K Krithivasan said the company is experiencing a "demand contraction" due to the continued uncertainities on the macroeconomic and geopolitical fronts, and added that he does not see a double-digit revenue growth in FY26. Krithivasan explained the delays in decision-making experienced in the preceding quarter have "intensified" now, and hoped for the discretionary spends -- a prime mover of revenue growths for IT companies -- would return once the uncertainities ebb. For Bengaluru-headquartered Infosys revenue was up 7.5 per cent to Rs 42,279 crore, while net profit at Rs 6,921 crore translated into an 8.6 per cent growth. Wipro's topline grew 0.77 per cent in Q1 to Rs 22,135 crore but its profit rose at a faster 9.8 per cent clip to Rs 3,336.5 crore. On a positive note, Infosys secured large deals worth USD 3.8 billion and raised the lower end of its FY26 revenue growth guidance to 1-3 per cent, from 0-3 per cent earlier. Infosys CEO Salil Parekh, however, expressed caution and said while the economy worldwide has come to more stable situations, "it is not fully settled". Industries such as logistics, consumer products, and manufacturing were impacted by economic changes in the economic environment, the company's management said. Clients are reportedly highly focused on cost and efficiency, reflecting ongoing caution influenced by the macroeconomic setting. Wipro CEO and MD Srinivas Pallia said the first quarter of the fiscal faced significant macro uncertainty, which kept the overall demand muted. Wipro's clients prioritised initiatives with immediate impact, focusing on cost optimisation and vendor consolidation. At the same time, they accelerated their AI, data and modernisation programmes. Pallia also noted that discretionary spend is not uniform and is coming back only in certain pockets. Wipro's IT services segment, which forms the core of its business, generated Rs 22,080 crore in during the quarter under review, a marginal year-on-year growth of 0.8 per cent and a sequential decline of 1.6 per cent. The company has given a sequential guidance of -1 per cent to 1 per cent in constant currency terms. HCL Technologies' (HCLTech) revenue was 8.1 per cent higher at Rs 30,349 crore but profit fell 9.7 per cent to Rs 3843 crore year-on-year, hurt by higher expenses and one-time impact of a client bankruptcy. The Noida-headquartered IT firm, however, raised the lower end of revenue growth outlook for the full fiscal year on booking expectations in the coming quarters. CEO C Vijayakumar said the June quarter was historically the weakest for the company, although the environment, with some variations, mainly remained stable and did not deteriorate as feared at the start of the quarter. Tech Mahindra clocked 2.65 per cent revenue growth to Rs 13,351.2 crore, its profit 33.9 per cent higher at Rs 1,140.6 crore.
