Seamus Power well off the pace after opening round at Rocket Classic in Detroit
Seamus Power is 11 shots adrift of the lead after a difficult opening round at the Rocket Classic.
The Waterford native was among just 15 of the 156-player field to shot over par rounds at the Detroit Golf Club with his one-over 73 leaving him in a tie for 142nd.
Power started Thursday's action well with a birdie on the second but a bogey on the fifth set him back. However, it was the ninth that would prove most costly as he double-bogeyed the par-3 hole.
A birdie on 15 offered him solace to lift him up to one over for the day.
Meanwhile at the other end of the leaderboard, Kevin Roy and Aldrich Potgieter share the lead after carding bogey-free rounds of 62.
Both America's Roy and 20-year-old South African Potgieter, who started on the back nine, eagled the 578-yard par-five 17th hole and made eight further birdies to reach 10 under par.
Australia's Min Woo Lee and the United States pair Mark Hubbard and Max Greyserman sit one shot back while Zach Johnson, a former Masters and Open champion, is among a cluster of players on seven under par.
It was a forgettable day for fellow two-time major winner Collin Morikawa, who is seven shots off the pace and bemoaned his short game, including a trio of three-putts on the back nine.
He said in quotes on the PGA Tour's website: "(I) putted like a blind man, honestly.

And fans were left concerned by his latest look at the 41st annual Nicklaus Junior Championship. That was at the Tequesta Country Club in Florida. Woods was in full dad mode looking to see his 16-year-old son qualify for the US Junior Amateur earlier this month. He was seen in shades and a hat with a grey beard, and a lot different to his playing days. And fans took to social media after spotting the 15-time major winner, particularly his legs. I played golf with Tiger Woods but he was a ghost behind the scenes – his romance with Vanessa Trump surprised me
TIGER WOODS was a 'ghost' behind the scenes who never gave any clues about his wild lifestyle, according to a golfer who played with him. Two-time PGA Tour winner Brian Henninger also says he's surprised by Wood's blossoming romance with Vanessa Trump. But Henninger, who also described Faldo as 'arrogant' and branded Jack Nicklaus a 'narcissist', said this attitude set him apart. Henninger told SunSport: 'Tiger Woods is not a person you're going to go and hang out with. Advertisement READ MORE ON GOLF 'He's not eating with you in the lunchroom. He's pleasant though. He'd say 'Hi Brian'. He knows a little bit about everybody, he does his research. 'I'll never forget the first time I met him. Even though in today's world, nothing surprises me anymore. 'But he lives in Florida, so I'm sure he's interacting with Donald Trump, who owns a few golf courses down there and stuff. 'Nothing surprises me with Tiger. I just kind of wish I knew. I like the drama, share it with us!' Advertisement Henninger believes In June, Nicklaus candidly told Scheffler not to get carried away with his recent success. 11 He said: 'If he is thinking about being the best and starts believing he's the best, pretty soon he starts scratching his ears out here like this, and that's death. Once you start to get a big head and believe you're too good, then you will get beat.' Advertisement But Henninger could understand the comments. He branded Scheffler and Nicklaus as 'narcissistic', but hailed the trait as something vital for their success. Henninger added: 'Scheffler is different. I almost feel like he's playing for a different purpose, and he seems really balanced with his family, which is really important to him. 'He's made so much money in recent years yet he seems to be doing it for this focus on the process and the competition, not for the money, even though that's the byproduct of playing really well. Advertisement 'They threw him in jail in the middle of a tournament last year, then he came out and shot 65, who does that? 'So he's got the resilience it takes to be number one in the world and takes responsibility for it. 'It takes a narcissistic person and Nicklaus is that person too, by the way, I've spent a little bit of time around him. These guys have big egos.' 11 Henninger has called Jack Nicklaus 'narcissistic' Credit: Getty Advertisement 11 He also labelled Sir Nick Faldo as arrogant Credit: Getty Another golfer who had a big ego was Faldo, Henninger says, who now works as a commentator in golf. Henninger says Faldo was arrogant and recalled a time he demanded changes to his parking space. He said: 'Faldo is one of them, he's from over there (arrogant). He's intense, a lot of us are pretty uptight. Advertisement 'To be honest with you, Greg Norman was super uptight, to the extent you don't really want to be around those people. 'He's one of the greatest players that ever lived. He's a big guy, he was very mechanical, so he had a really pretty swing. It was very methodical. But an example of Faldo's arrogance was when we were playing in the senior players' championship in Philadelphia five or six years ago. 'Because he's close to my last name, like F and H are close, he's parked right next to me and when I pull up early in the week, it says Sir Nick Faldo on his little sign by his car. 'It only took about 24 hours and it said, Sir Nick Faldo. That tells you the whole story." Advertisement

Rory McIlroy relationship update as golfer and wife Erica Stoll set for change
Rory McIlroy is counting on a forthcoming two-week break from the fairways to give him time to properly digest his Masters triumph earlier this year. In April, the celebrated golfer snagged his career Grand Slam at Augusta National by winning out over Justin Rose in a nail-biting sudden-death playoff. Post-Masters, the 36-year-old hasn't quite carried that wave of success into subsequent tournaments as many might have anticipated. He secured a tie for 47th at the PGA Championship and took a joint-19th place at the US Open. Despite this, McIlroy has racked up three top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour, including his recent stint tying for sixth at the Travelers Championship. Just two strokes separated him from Tommy Fleetwood, who was narrowly bested by Team USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley on the last hole. McIlroy won't be teeing off again until the Scottish Open begins on July 10, which serves as a prelude to The Open Championship at the renowned Royal Portrush just one week later, reports the Liverpool Echo McIlroy conveyed before heading back to the UK: "I think more so than anything else, it'll just be good for me mentally to take a little bit of a break and get back to my neck of the woods, get back to the UK for a little bit. "I'm excited for that, and I've alluded to the fact I probably haven't taken enough time off or time to reflect after what happened in April, so I'm excited to do a little bit of that over these next two weeks." The five-time major champion reflected post-US Open: "It's always nice to get home; I feel like I live two different lives. I'm a dad and a husband when I'm away from here, and then I'm who I am when I'm here. "It's always nice to get away and feel a bit of normality." Eagerly anticipating his return to the region, he revealed: "I'm looking forward to just getting back to Europe in general." McIlroy, alongside his wife Erica Stroll and their four-year-old daughter Poppy, have commissioned their dream residency at the Wentworth Estate, near the exclusive Surrey golf course. Anticipating the future, he concluded: "We've got a lot to look forward to, got our new house in London, play the Scottish and then obviously The Open at Portrush." McIlroy and his family are preparing for a move from Jupiter, Florida, to the newly renovated mansion in Wentworth.
