
Ninja sword amnesty brought in ahead of ban
Nottinghamshire Police said it was offering £5 compensation for each sword handed in to a designated police station during the four-week surrender period if it was purchased before 27 March.Ch Insp Kylie Davies, the force's knife crime lead, said the amnesty "supports our wider work to tackle knife crime and serious violence"."We welcome this national initiative to help rid our communities of dangerous and offensive weapons and are happy to support it," she said."Every weapon handed in is one less that could be used to cause harm and help to make our communities safer."

Graham Potter has discussed Lucas Paqueta's future at West Ham after the midfielder was cleared of spot-fixing charges by the FA following a two-year investigation. In the wake of the decision, some reports linked Paqueta with a £30million return to his homeland - with boyhood club Flamengo said to be interested. The 27-year-old had been linked with a return to his native Brazil but Potter suggested the verdict means he is more likely to stay Hammers boss Potter meanwhile is confident the midfielder will remain in East London this summer. 'You never know for sure because anything can happen in the window with anybody,' said Potter. 'But the news is incredibly positive. If it had gone the other way, there would have been a whole other line of questions. 'Lucas is happy and committed. He is an important person in dressing room and at the club and we love him. We just want to help him enjoy his football. 'You can imagine on a personal level for him, having to fight those allegations was an incredible challenge for him. It has been a really tough period in his life and career. 'It is a credit to him and his family and everyone who has supported him that he has come through.' Paqueta had been linked with an £80m move to Manchester City after he capped off his debut season in England by setting up Jarrod Bowen's winning goal in the 2023 Conference League final. The move collapsed shortly after however, when West Ham informed Pep Guardiola's side that he was being investigated due to suspicious betting patterns.

The family of a mother who was shot in her home 20 years ago have renewed their appeals for anyone with information to come Hargreaves, 22, was asleep on the sofa when three men burst into her home in Walton, Liverpool, on 3 August 2005 and killed murderers then set fire to the home on Lambourne Road, with Ms Hargreaves' partner and two-year-old daughter, who were upstairs, having to escape through a arrested 21 people as part of their investigations, but no-one has been convicted. Cambridgeshire Police arrests 300 for drink- or drug-driving
More than 300 people have been arrested on suspicion of drink or drug-driving by Cambridgeshire Police since included a mother caught drug-driving with her baby in Cambridge and a man who crashed into multiple parked cars in Wisbech. Officers are reminding people they can call a confidential drink- or drug- drive hotline if they have fear someone might be driving under the Adrian Boddington said: "Every drink-drive arrest represents a potential tragedy narrowly avoided, lives that could have been lost or changed forever." The force fears people face "face greater temptations to drink-drive during the summer season, when there are traditionally more planned events"."Please consider a designated driver system or make sure to book taxis in advance, so there is no temptation to drive home while potentially over the limit," PC Boddington said."Before you get behind the wheel please think – is it really worth the risk?Other drink- or drug-drivers caught by Cambridgeshire Police this year included a driver in Peterborough who blew twice over the limit after drinking half a bottle of rum on a night out and a drink-driver who crashed into traffic lights in Huntingdon while twice over the limit. The police force added officers would be "proactively patrolling the county and conducting breathalyser tests this summer". Convicted drivers face a minimum 12-month driving ban and up to six months in prison.
