Canneseries honors Nicola Coughlan with Konbini Commitment Award
The Cannes, France, festival, which showcases and promotes television series from around the world, said in a press release that Coughlan will be present April 28 to receive the award and give "an exceptional masterclass in which she will look back on her career and the positions she has taken."
The Konbini Commitment Award is described as an Honorific Prize for creatives "who have distinguished themselves by the artistic quality and societal, innovative and/or revolutionary dimension of their work."
Coughlan is most recognizable for her role as Penelope Bridgerton, aka Lady Whistledown, on the Netflix series Bridgerton, which recently released a sneak peek into its upcoming fourth season. She is also known for her work in comedy series Derry Girls, TV series Big Mood and the Barbie movie.

The Sandman (Season 2) Split into two parts, The Sandman returns for its final season with 11 new episodes. Based on the award-winning comic book series, the second instalment promises to bring the story to a fulfilling close, following Dream as he embarks on a mission to save the realm, himself and the conscious world from his past actions. Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), Indya Moore (Pose) and Freddie Fox (The Great) join the fantasy epic alongside the original cast, including Gwendoline Christie, Stephen Fry and Joely Richardson. Trainwreck: The Real Project X For those old enough to remember the Project X movie, it was a pop culture moment like no other. Based loosely on the plot of a real-life teenager who threw an out-of-control house party, the term 'Project X' subsequently entered the cultural lexicon for Tumblr teens. Now, for the first time, the real Dutch teenager who created an open Facebook event in 2012 speaks about how things went so wrong so quickly when tens of thousands of people signed up to attend. Untamed Thinking about heading into the great outdoors this summer? Well, this new Eric Bana-fronted series might have you feeling differently. Set in Yosemite National Park, this mystery thriller follows a National Parks Service agent as he attempts to enforce the law across the sprawling forests and mountainscapes. From the writer behind The Revenant and American Primeval this is a series that examines what happens when humans and the wilderness go up against each other. Happy Gilmore 2 In 1996, Adam Sandler gifted Happy Gilmore to the world, a beloved comedy about a down-on-his-luck hockey player who turns to golf in the hopes of saving his family from bankruptcy. Now, 29 years later, Happy returns to the course, this time a father having to find money to fund his daughter's dance school tuition. With a star-studded cast including Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen, Margaret Qualley, Bad Bunny, Eminem, Post Malone, Rory McIlroy and even Sandler's real-life daughter, Sunny, this promises to be a sports sequel with some substance.

The summer celebrity forecast predicts clear skies, and an unproblematic leading man heatwave in the form of Jonathan Bailey and Pedro Pascal. In a time marked by division – over politics and pretty much everything else – Pascal and Bailey have seemingly united the internet by abiding by a fairly simple principle: It's ok to have fun being a celebrity. Case in point: Bailey matched wits – and clutched pearls – with one of the web's most gifted in the art of the flirt, Amelia Dimoldenberg, who on Friday welcomed the fellow Brit on her popular YouTube series 'Chicken Shop Date.' Their blush-inducing conversation ranged from Dimoldenberg calling their relationship 'tantric' (Bailey qualified that description with, 'From afar') to her asking him about the chaps he was planning to wear to Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour show that evening. 'Are they going to be with the bum, or without the bum?' she asked, to which Bailey responded, 'We'll see, maybe they'll evolve as the night goes on.' For those who don't know him, Bailey was first introduced to most after an enchanting run on three seasons of 'Bridgerton.' He then caught our attention when he starred in 'Wicked' part one last year as the dashing Prince Fiyero. Next up, Bailey is starring in 'Jurassic Park: Rebirth' alongside Scarlett Johansson, out this week, before he reprises his role as Fiyero in 'Wicked: For Good' in November. What has made audiences fall in love with Bailey offscreen though, is that he can be devilishly flirty and disarmingly wholesome all in the same breath. Further proof: The viral craze that was Bailey's so-called 'slutty little glasses,' a moniker for the eyewear that he sports in 'Jurassic Park: Rebirth' coined by internet personality Blakely Thornton. The moniker stuck after audiences saw Bailey's eyeglasses in the first trailer for the film. Fully embracing the moment, Bailey told Entertainment Tonight at the London premiere of 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' earlier this month that he's 'thrilled that people are having a hormonal explosion linked to optical supports.' He also saw his viral moment as an opportunity for good. Bailey and spectacle maker Cubitts recently partnered to launch a limited-edition pair of sunglasses, inspired by his eyewear worn in the film, according to WWD. A portion of the sales will benefit Bailey's charity The Shameless Fund, which he established last year in support of the LGBTQ+ community to 'live authentically.' Bailey is also busy living out his dream of playing in the 'Jurassic' orchestra when they recorded the score for the new film at Abbey Road Studios. Bailey was able to perform the clarinet solo that played over a scene where his character interacted with a dinosaur for the first time. 'I'm sort of shaking,' Bailey said in a featurette for the film after recording his solo. 'It's a total dream come true.' And then, of course, there's bee-swatter and Internet 'daddy' Pascal, who is literally everywhere lately. He not only recently appeared (and absolutely broke our hearts) in the second season of HBO's 'The Last of Us,' but he also showed up in Celine Song's anti-rom-com 'The Materialists,' out now. If that weren't enough, he will also be appearing in the Ari Aster-directed drama 'Eddington' and Marvel's 'Fantastic Four,' both out later this month. He'll also be reprising his role as the titular helmeted hero in the 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' film next year. Outside of being one of the most sought-after movie and TV stars of the time, Pascal, like Bailey, is an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ causes. In April, Pascal set the internet abuzz when he attended Marvel's 'Thunderbolts*' premiere in London wearing a white t-shirt that read 'protect the dolls' to show support for the transgender community, including his sister, Lux Pascal, who came out as a transgender woman in 2021. The t-shirt was designed by London-based designer Conner Ives. All profits from the shirt benefit Trans Lifeline, a charity that offers emotional and financial support to transgender people. The Pascal craze came to a boiling point last month when a lookalike contest was held in New York City, as part of a growing trend that brings out doppelgängers of our most sought out celebs. 'It's the Pedro takeover,' Emma Stone, who stars alongside him in 'Eddington,' gushed about Pascal during an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' last week. 'He's so wonderful. He's talented, he's gorgeous, he's nice, he's funny.' We can see it, too, Emma. Even Robert Downey Jr., who will appear alongside Pascal in Marvel's upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday,' can't get enough of Pascal. 'Pascal's slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry,' Downey said in a Vanity Fair interview published last week. Pascal celebrated his milestone 50th birthday in April and spoke playfully and modestly about the renaissance he's currently having at this age. 'Stepping into my 40s felt adult and empowered,' Pascal told the publication. 'Fifty felt more vulnerable—much more vulnerable… What a silly thing for a 50-year-old man—to have all this attention!' 'Jurassic World Rebirth,' 'The Old Guard 2' — Movie new releases to see or skip this weekend in Canada — streaming and in theatres
It's you're an action movie lover, there's a lot for you to see this weekend with the release of Prime Video's Heads of State with John Cena, Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra, and the theatrical release of Jurassic World Rebirth with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali and Rupert Friend. Additionally, The Old Guard 2 was released on Netflix this week, with Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman. But while there's so much newness in the action genre, much of it didn't land as well as you may have hoped. That being said, on the other side of the genre spectrum, Eva Victor's feature debut Sorry, Baby is a clear hit of the Baby is certainly my pick of the week if you're going to see a newly released movie. Eva Victor's film is an impressive debut feature that's incredibly thoughtful, endearing and funny, and Victor's voice feels unique. While it may be tempting to call this a film about trauma, it's really about healing after violence, something that's often left out in films with similar subject matter. Victor also injects so much humour into the story in a way that only works when the filmmaker has impressive attention to detail with fully developed and nuanced characters. This is already one of my favourite movies of the year so far. The biggest issue with Jurassic World Rebirth is that it's exactly what you expect, but that means it lacks excitement. Ultimately, it's just boring. But much of it comes down to a continuation of a franchise that's quite tired, and needs a big swing to really reinvigorate these stories. That's not what you're getting with Jurassic World Rebirth. It's a movie that just falls into the "meh" descriptor. If you're a particular fan of the franchise or the actors, you can have a good time with this one, but otherwise it's two hours and 13 minutes of predictability. The cast does the best they can with the story, but you can't escape the fact that the magic of this franchise has diminished over the years. There are two things that make Heads of State watchable. Firstly, the chemistry between John Cena and Idris Elba, who were also castmates on The Suicide Squad, and one sequence with Jack Quaid that is incredibly entertaining in its goofiness. Other than those elements, the film is holding on by a thin string with dialogue that will make you roll your eyes, and CGI that looks odd at times. But it's your typical mainstream action-comedy, so you know what to expect. The movie may star Elba, but don't expect this to be The Wire. Let's get the obvious out of the way, the story in The Old Guard 2 is far less enticing than what we got in the first film. And when that's your starting point, it's a tough uphill battle to try to crawl out from a stunted script. The story lacks the fun from the first movie, with no real stakes. Of course, Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman in an action movie together is going to make you want to hit play, they're both absolute powerhouses in the genre. But that being said, you'll be left wishing they had more substance to work with. Victoria Mahoney certainly tries to use the film's action sequences as effective storytelling devices in the evolution of this narrative, leaning into as much fun and poignancy as she can, but the expansion of this story just isn't on any solid ground.
