5 nabbed in Pangasinan for using fake land title in P4-M loan
According to a ''24 Oras'' report by John Consulta on Friday, the five suspects were arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation–Dagupan.
Based on NBI's investigation, the five suspects applied for a loan and received millions in exchange for a property in Bayambang, Pangasinan.
However, the Registry of Deeds said the land title was fake.
'Nagsabwatan ng limang subjects para makakuha ng loan muna sa complainant gamit isang titulong peke. Nakakuha sila ng apat na milyon na loan muna sa complainant, at hindi pa sila nakontento, at humingi ng karagdagan isang milyon mula sa complainant. Dahil dito ay nagkasa po tayo ng entrapment operation para mahuli itong limang subjects,' said NBI Dagupan agent-in-charge Mert Tello.
(The five subjects have conspired to file for a loan with the complainant using a fake title. They received P4 million worth of loan from the complainant, and they still weren't content so they asked for another P1 million from the complainant. Because of this, we have conducted an entrapment operation to arrest these five suspects.)
'Kinasuhan natin ang limang subjects ng estafa through falsification of public document, at ang kaso na ating sinampa ay sinustain naman ng provincial prosecutor,' Tello said.
(We charged the five subjects with estafa through falsification of public document, and the case was sustained by the provincial prosecutor.)
Other potential victims were also urged to cooperate with the NBI.

Senate bill eyes imprisonment, fines for malicious use of AI
A measure seeking prison term and a fine of up to P1 million has been filed in the Senate in a bid to protect individuals against the wrongful and improper use of artificial intelligence (AI). Under Senate Bill No. 782, also known as the Physical Identity Protection Act, filed by Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero, any person responsible for creating, generating, reproducing, duplicating, simulating, distributing, disseminating, or publishing any person's physical attributes without their consent in any media content—-regardless of the medium, platform, or point of access used—-will be held criminally liable. 'While this generative Al technology offers tremendous potential particularly in the fields of business, education and communications, it also presents a profound risk to individuals' rights, privacy and identity. With malicious intent and the help of AI and other similar technology, media content could be exploited in efforts to cause personal harm or undermine public trust,' Escudero said in the explanatory note. The bill prescribes the penalty of imprisonment of one to two years or a fine not exceeding P200,000, or both, for individuals who create, generate or share content containing a person's physical attributes without prior consent or legal basis. If the intention of the illegal content is to acquire financial gain or profit, the penalty shall be jail time of two to four years or a fine of P200,000 to P400,000, or both. The measure also imposes a higher penalty of four to six years imprisonment or a fine of P400,000 to P600,000, or both, for content designed to facilitate or commit crime or fraud. Meanwhile, if the act is done to acquire financial gain or profit and to facilitate or commit a crime or fraud, imprisonment of up to 12 years or a fine of P600,000 to P1 million, or both, will be imposed. If the offender is a public official or employee, he or she will be penalized with absolute perpetual disqualification from public office, on top of the maximum penalties prescribed under the bill. 'These interventions provide the government with the wherewithal to address emerging threats, ensure accountability in the use of Al technologies, and promote creativity and innovation without compromising personal rights and liberties, legitimate speech, journalism and news coverage, academic and educational research, documentary and historical piece and other similar works,' Escudero said in a statement. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA Integrated News

8 Filipinos rescued, 20 Chinese nabbed in suspected scam hubs in Pampanga
Eight Filipinos were rescued while 20 Chinese nationals were arrested in alleged scam hubs during two separate operations conducted at Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles City, Pampanga. Authorities first raided a compound of two villas where 17 Chinese nationals were nabbed, according to a report of GMA Integrated News' Bam Alegre on Unang Balita on Tuesday. Several equipment such as laptops and mobile phones were confiscated and are set to undergo digital forensic examination to gather more information on the operation of the suspects. Based on the chats seen on a computer, the suspects seemed to be running a love scam. Eight Filipinos were rescued in the operation. According to them, they are working inside the suspected scam hub for over eight hours in a day. 'May friend po na nagyayaya lang po. Maghahanap po ng client. 'Yun po, inaaral po namin kasi one week pa lang po kami rito,' one of the rescued Pinoys said. (There was a friend who was just inviting us. We are looking for a client. We are just studying it because we have only been here for a week.) 'Bago lang po talaga ako rito. Kakadating lang po namin kahapon. May inaantay po kaming tao. Hindi po namin alam basta ang sabi po mag-antay lang po kami dito,' another rescued Filipina said. (I am really new here. We just arrived yesterday. We are waiting for someone we don't know. They just said to wait here.) The 17 arrested Chinese nationals were not able to give a statement due to language barrier. Another residential property near the villas was also raided where three Chinese nationals were arrested due to alleged online fraud. The suspects were brought to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City. Authorities are checking if these two suspected scam operations were connected. Clark Development Corporation vice president for security Retired Major General Lina Sarmiento said, 'Dito sa loob ng Clark Freeport Zone since 2023, ipinagbawal na ng Clark Development Corporation ang anumang gawain na may kinalaman sa POGO. Honeylet says she's suspended from visiting Duterte in ICC detention

'For judicial reasons and out of respect for family privacy, I am not going to comment on the veracity of Honeylet Avanceña's allegations concerning her presence not being desired at the ICC detention centre,' Kaufman said. 'Honeylet Avanceña, so it would appear, is emotionally distressed for reasons on which, as I mentioned previously, I cannot elaborate. As a consequence, she is making all sorts of wild allegations which are being stoked by others,' he added. Kaufman further said, 'The simple fact of the matter is that the Vice President, as a lawyer herself, is fully qualified to judge the quality of my engagement with and work for the former president.' GMA Integrated News has reached out to Vice President Sara Duterte for comment. Kaufman also said visiting rights were not determined by the counsel but by the detention center authorities, with the intervention of the judges when necessary.
