Liberty center Jonquel Jones didn't sugarcoat her disappointment when it came to the fact a sprained ankle derailed her All-Star-worthy start.
'I'm pissed,' she said after practice Wednesday. 'I'm not even gonna lie about it, I'm really upset about it.'

Jones has been named an All-Star in five of the past seven seasons, including 2024.
Earning a sixth All-Star nod was the 'one personal goal' Jones had for herself this season.
The 2024 WNBA Finals MVP was on track to make her All-Star aspirations a reality.

In her first nine games, Jones averaged 15.3 points and 11.3 rebounds while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from deep.
Jones initially sprained her right ankle June 5 in Washington. In her second game back, she aggravated the ankle injury when she landed on another player's foot after going up for a shot.
Earlier this week, Jones learned she wasn't named a starter for the 2025 WNBA All-Star game.
She's keeping her fingers crossed that she may be named one of the 12 reserves, which are determined by the league's head coaches.

Though there's no minimum games played requirement to be named an All-Star, Jones knows her being sidelined may impact her chances.
'We'll see when it comes [out] but I'm definitely upset about it,' Jones said. 'Obviously I was playing well enough to be an All-Star again and it's something that I expect of myself every year as well. So we'll see. But if it happens that I'm not, then I'm definitely going to be very upset.'
Being left out of the main event of All-Star weekend — scheduled for July 18-19 in Indianapolis — is just one of the challenges Jones has had to come to grips with since reinjuring her ankle in the Liberty's June 19 loss against the Mercury.

'It's been hard to see it,' Jones said. 'It's been difficult. … But I think there are some things that we can control as a team to help us just look better out there and kind of help us be closer to winning.'
The Liberty play their next eight games in Brooklyn and aren't scheduled to hit the road again until their July 28 game in Dallas.
Jones said the lengthy home stand should be good for her recovery considering swelling has been one of her biggest issues with the sprain. She also welcomed the chance for some normalcy, despite the setback.
'I can see my dogs every day and they make me happy,' Jones said. 'I can do my regular walks and stuff like that and just kind of get into that routine of just when I'm showing up to the gym, when I'm doing rehab, when I'm doing conditioning and all that stuff.'
Jones can also host 'Love Island' watch parties with her teammates in her Brooklyn apartment.

The Liberty announced June 21 that Jones would miss four to six weeks. About two weeks into her rehab process, Jones said she doesn't have a target date to return to play. But she did say she's feeling better.
'I'm in a good spot,' she said. 'Just making sure that I'm as close to 100 percent as possible before I get back on the court and yeah, just take it from there.'

Iowa women's basketball offers standout 2029 Illinois PG Liv Johnson

Continuing on its efforts to secure the best talent of the future, Iowa women's basketball extended an offer to highly-touted 2029 Illinois point guard and combo guard Liv Johnson on Monday. The 6-foot-1 Johnson stars on the varsity squad at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Ill., and plays club basketball for the All Iowa Attack program, which also contains 2028 shooting guard prospect Kinsley Ketterhagen, who also earned an offer from the Hawkeyes on June 27. While the 2029 class is too early to have an established ranking, Johnson is regarded by Prep Girls Hoops as one of the top prospects in Illinois. Johnson received the offer after stopping by Iowa City for an unofficial visit, which now places the Hawkeyes among a growing list of powerful programs that have offered including Minnesota, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. While Johnson will certainly get more attention as her recruiting journey continues, the Hawkeyes hope that their recent success in the past few seasons and reputation for developing top-tier talent will make Iowa a desired destination. Here's a look at some of Johnson's highlights: Contact/Follow us @HawkeyesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Iowa news, notes, and opinions. George Costanza, $3K Caitlin Clark Rookie Royalty Breaks & the $80 Popcorn Bucket Craze

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JUNE 27: Caitlin Clark #22 of the Indiana Fever reacts to a score during the first half of a game against the Dallas Wings at American Airlines Center on June 27, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by) Metz here again, filling in for our glorious leader. This past week had everyone asking the same question: will the Houston Rockets win the 2026 NBA Finals in four games or five? No? Just me? Anyway… Durant's arrival on the Rockets gives him the card collector's equivalent of a rainbow. Naturally, we had to dig in and find his best cards from each of his teams. The other thing I couldn't stop thinking about was how mispriced Panini's Rookie Royalty set was, dropping all the way from a $30,000 starting price to around $3,000. As a huge Caitlin Clark fan and WNBA collector, I'd love to buy in, but I can't even afford a break, let alone a full box. Break pricing for Rookie Royalty spots is popping up on various apps, and it looks like some shops are splitting two-card boxes into up to 58 spots, perhaps the worst odds to hit of all time. Still, with multiple Caitlin Clark cards selling for six figures in the last few weeks alone, a few people are going to have their lives changed by this product in the next few weeks — if not already. With that off my chest, let's dive into some of the other news we found interesting this week. Remember that crazy-looking Dune 2 sandworm popcorn bucket? The one that kinda looked like a… uhh... yeah. Well, it's kicked off an entirely new line of collectibles. It's popular on both sides of the spectrum. Designer groups are begging theaters to let them create something iconic, and moviegoers are begging to own them. These novelty containers cost anywhere from twenty-five to eighty dollars and sell out on opening weekend, if not opening day. Fans even camp outside theaters for midnight shows, hoping to snag limited runs that later fetch hundreds on eBay. Do you own any popcorn buckets? We would love to see them on Mantel. There's something utterly 2025 about a white hedge-fund billionaire dropping the average person's dinner money on Lincoln's 13th Amendment. If it belongs in a museum, odds are it'll fetch a small fortune at auction later this year. Remember when a Twitter crypto community tried to buy the Constitution and mint it into a coin? Well, this is the same guy who outbid them and spoiled everyone's fun. So if you ever unearth a piece of American history in your grandfather's basement, tuck it away, one day a billionaire might be willing to pay handsomely for it. A ballpark bobblehead taps into the sports fan inside us all. It's a time-honored tradition even your parents remember fondly. But today's collectors want more than a run-of-the-mill player figure. No doubt, the Yankees front office knew this would be a smash hit the second it was suggested. Jason Alexander cards (yes, George Costanza himself) fly off the auction block and are nearly impossible to track down . They fetch high prices for the same reason Netflix's 'Pieces of Shit for Breakfast' cereal boxes from Fanatics Fest sell for $40 bucks on eBay . Millennials love nostalgia and they love collecting. MLB All-Star voting resumed Monday, and while Ohtani and Judge are locks, the real market movers may be the breakout stars. Pete Crow-Armstrong's 1st Bowman Draft auto has jumped from around $300 to $550 this season, and a big All-Star performance could make the perfect time to sell. Jacob Wilson's Chrome 1st auto surged 218% in three months, making his red rookie a bargain entry at $50-$60 IF he wins ROY. Keep an eye on Acuña Jr for a Home Run Derby spike, and don't sleep on Javier Báez's redemption narrative fueling his rookie autos. Collectible Grading Authority, best known for its AFA toy grading and VGA video game grading, just passed into new hands, led by Kenner Star Wars toy guru Tom Derby. In 2025, as graded collectibles soar in value, reliable authentication has never mattered more. CGA, spun out of Diamond Comics' bankruptcy, will stay in Georgia with its expert team and aims to expand services and innovate grading standards. For toy and game collectors, this means greater stability and confidence when investing in rare pieces. If you are a toy and game collector, you should be thrilled with this news. Now for some business. We are always looking for ways to improve Mantel and we want YOU to be a part of it. Please take our latest feedback survey and help shape the future of Mantel.

Could an ex-Pacer help the team post-Myles Turner in a very specific situation?

As you've probably heard, the Indiana Pacers need a center. Myles Turner signed with the Milwaukee Bucks, leaving the Pacers, right now, with Tony Bradley and (maybe) Isaiah Jackson (he's a restricted free agent) at the position on the roster. But there is a free agent with a long history with the Pacers who thinks he could help out in a very specific situation: Jermaine O'Neal. "I like my chances against anyone in the post," O'Neal, 46, said during a visit to The Dan Patrick Show. "If we're talking full court, I'm not doing that. These legs don't have that much gas." O'Neal said he'd dunked as recently as a month ago and that he could lead any rec league in scoring. "I try to stay in pretty good shape," O'Neal said. "Every year I have kids from my school or my club that want to challenge me 1-on-1. I'm the old guy they think they can beat. I have to remind them I got paid to do this. I'm not going to allow a teenager to beat me." O'Neal made six all-star teams with the Pacers from 2001-2008, was All-NBA three times and Most Improved Player in 2001-02. He averaged 18.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. Patrick immediately started asking O'Neal who he could beat, including No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg, Victor Wembanyama and LeBron James. "Just straight post work? I think I have a chance," O'Neal said. "Throw me the ball in the post, 1-on-1, I still like my chances because I'm still nimble. Mano a mano, I've got a chance. I have a chance to win in a 1-on-1, whether I win or not, we'll see."
