TDM, JMF to hold joint military drill in Johor May 1-13

KUALA LUMPUR: The 21st Special Forces Group (GGK) will conduct a joint military exercise with the Johor Military Force (JMF) from May 1 to 13 in several areas in Johor.
According to a statement from the Malaysian Army (TDM), the Thunderstorm Exercise Series 1/2025 would take place around Pengerang, Tanjung Pengelih, Teluk Ramunia and Desaru.
'The exercise will involve various military assets, tactical vehicle movements, helicopter flights and explosive elements.
'Local residents and road users are advised not to panic and to comply with all safety instructions during the exercise,' the statement read.
TDM said roadblocks and traffic control measures would be implemented in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) at several locations, including around Teluk Ramunia, from May 1 to 9.
Roadblocks will also be set up around the Sungai Johor Bridge and Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal on May 10, followed by a temporary road closure on Highway E22 from 1 am to 3 am on May 11.
'This exercise is part of TDM's efforts to ensure readiness in facing any possible terrorist threats to national sovereignty.
'Members of the public are urged not to spread any unverified information regarding this exercise,' said TDM.

'We never take any case lightly, especially those involving the welfare and well-being of our students and staff. In this case, I urge everyone to allow space for a transparent and open investigation,' she said. Fadhlina added that several crisis intervention measures are currently being implemented, including psychological and emotional support for school staff and the victim's family. 'This situation also affects the overall well-being of the school community. We are receiving full assistance from our counterparts at the Ministry of Health, who are focusing on the psycho-emotional support for both the family and the school staff,' she said. Its Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry will not compromise on any form of misconduct or violation of regulations involving educational institutions. "We have handed the matter over to the relevant authorities for investigation. "We will not tolerate any misconduct or breaches of the rules. "Action will be taken," she told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 in Terengganu today. She said investigations are ongoing, including into reports of a scuffle during the auction, and the ministry will continue to monitor the case to ensure regulations are upheld and appropriate action is taken. The incident sparked public outrage after a primary school facility in Pontian, Johor, was used to host a liquor auction, during which a fight was also reported to have occurred.
