Budding technopreneurs have govt's full support, says Zahid
MELAKA: Students undertaking Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) should consider becoming technopreneurs, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said TVET offers promising opportunities in the entrepreneurship sector.
Government support is essential in realising such potential, he said.
'We are grateful for the growing trust of parents (in TVET) today. That is why we must find new ways to nurture and transform the mindset of TVET students into future technopreneurs.'
Ahmad Zahid said to date, TVET institutions under Majlis Amanah Rakyat have produced 50 TVET millionaires.
Speaking at the 2025 National TVET Day celebration, he said as Malaysia moves towards becoming a developed nation, the involvement of all parties in driving the country's progress must be properly coordinated.
This is especially to help groups that are often seen as marginalised within the country's education system, he said.
'For instance, the National TVET Council has taken the responsibility to recruit huffaz students to join TVET so that their future can be better secured,' he said, Bernama reported.
The Deputy Prime Minister cited examples, including huffaz students enrolled at Universiti Kuala Lumpur's aerospace and maritime affairs faculties as well as at Universiti Tenaga Nasional.
'The response has been quite good (from the huffaz) and we welcome their contributions to building this country,' he said.

Zahid: Immediate aid for fire victims in Bagan Datuk
KUALA LUMPUR: Immediate assistance will be channelled to all victims of the fire that destroyed 23 houses and premises in Kampung Bagan Pasir Laut, Hutan Melintang, Bagan Datuk, early this morning. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he had been informed of the incident, and officers from his office had immediately gone to the ground to meet all the affected families. "God willing, immediate assistance will be channelled, and each victim will be given the attention and support they deserve," he said in a Facebook post today. Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk member of parliament, expressed his deepest appreciation to all parties involved, especially the fire brigade, security personnel, and volunteers, for their efforts in the rescue and firefighting operations. "The swift action and spirit of togetherness shown are greatly appreciated. My prayers are with all the victims. May they be given strength and fortitude in facing this difficult ordeal," he said. In the 4.30am incident, a total of 23 premises were destroyed, involving 19 Class B and C houses, each estimated to have an area of 92.9 square metres, a non-Muslim house of worship, two eateries, and a retail shop. However, no casualties were reported. The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department's forensic team is still conducting further investigations to determine the cause of the incident.

Agriculture TVET graduates' marketability rate at 81.23pct
SHAH ALAM: The marketability rate of Agriculture Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates under the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) rose to 81.23 per cent last year from 78.1 per cent in 2023. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the average has been on an upward trend for the past five years even though it remains under the national average, and that TVET is viewed as a catalyst as it nurtures young talent who are not only skilled in theories but excel in practical applications. "In line with the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the agriculture sector requires a new approach to boost productivity, especially through robotic technology, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI), with minimum resources. "Modern agriculture is no longer about hoes and soil but I'm sure TVET students understand it is about high technology, automation, drones and smart farming to ensure future security," he said during his speech at the Agriculture TVET@KPKM Carnival here today. The programme brought together 460 agriculture TVET students and over 200 employees from 16 TVET training institutes from the country and introduced 45 new innovations. For Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM), the highest marketability rate for graduates was in the poultry field, with 100 per cent, followed by ruminant field and small machinery maintenance, at 93.2 per cent and 92.3 per cent respectively, while catch fishery and padi production both had the same marketability rate, at 91.7 per cent, he said. "Currently the ministry has produced 25,783 graduates since the National Agriculture Skill Training Programme began in 1969. "We hope that with the additional skilled labour in the field, we can boost the national agrofood industry competitiveness in the global market and ensure the continued food supply for the country," he said. – Bernama

Crop and livestock supply stable despite hot weather in Malaysia
SHAH ALAM: The supply of crops and livestock across Malaysia remains stable despite the prolonged hot and dry weather triggered by the Southwest Monsoon, according to the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM). Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu stated that the ministry has not received any significant reports of major supply disruptions. While some weather-related complaints have surfaced, they remain isolated and manageable. 'Overall, disruptions are minimal and the situation remains under control,' he said after launching the Agriculture Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) @KPKM carnival here today. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) earlier confirmed that the Southwest Monsoon, which began on May 10, is expected to persist until September. Separately, Mohamad highlighted the coconut industry's potential as a key economic driver, similar to pineapples. He noted increasing demand for both mature coconuts, actively cultivated in Sabah, and young coconuts, particularly from China. 'The crop is expected to generate impressive export value, just like pineapples, which have surpassed RM1 billion in sales,' he said. Mohamad previously commended the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) for boosting production and export growth in the sector.
