Outlander's Sam Heughan admits cast 'ready to move on' as he opens up on 'sad' end
Outlander star Sam Heughan has admitted that the cast were 'ready to move on' from the hit time-travel television series. Outlander's leading man Sam Heughan has candidly spoken about the hit fantasy series drawing to a close, confessing that the cast were simply "ready to move on". During his appearance at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, July 26, the 45 year old Scottish actor offered fans several insights into both the final season of the show and its forthcoming prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will introduce a fresh cast. While he had some cautionary words and four specific pieces of advice for the Blood of My Blood team, he also took a moment to reflect on himself and his fellow actors as they bid farewell to their own show. Addressing the press conference, Heughan not only acknowledged the feelings of sadness that accompanied the show ending its successful run, but also disclosed that the Outlander cast was prepared to turn the page. "I think we're ready to move on. It's a long time...I think it's good for change, and it's good for people to mix things up," he shared with the Irish Star. "And it's been amazing to see people, crew, especially, being stepped up and moving to different roles. So that's been fantastic." He also recounted a moment when he passed by the studio after he "hadn't been back for quite a while", confessing it filled him with a melancholic feeling when he did. "I know exactly what they're doing and who's there and where they leave," he said. "And it was quite sad to think, 'Oh, everyone. Everyone's there, but for me.'" The cast of Blood of My Blood were occupied with their own show at the time, which is set to premiere on STARZ on 8 August. While the original series centred around the romance between Claire (Catriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan), the new programme will explore the lives of both their parents–Jamie's in 18th-century Scotland and Claire's in a World War I-devastated England. Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, are being brought to life by Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy. Claire's parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, will be played by Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine. In contrast to the original series, which closely adheres to the Diana Gabaldon novels they're based on, the new show draws from material written for the first of three prequel books. These novels are still in development.

Diana Gabaldon sends fans wild ahead of Blood of My Blood premiere with last book sneak peek
The Outlander author has shared a sneak peek of her new book A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out. Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has sent fans into a frenzy as she teased her new book ahead of the Blood of My Blood premiere. The spin off show of Outlander, which is a prequel, is set to air next month and the official launch is taking place in LA on Tuesday, which Diana is in town for. Taking to her Facebook page, the iconic author marked the special occasion by teasing fans by sharing a snippet of her new book A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out, which is set to be the final instalment in the Outlander series. She penned: "Well, I'm in LA for the premiere. Looking forward to it! Also to having all of you see it soon! "In the meantime, though, I thought I'd provide a little entertainment for those at home." She then went on to post a lengthy extract from her book, which fans went wild for. One part fans went particularly liked sees Claire ask Frances what Jamie said to her in Gaelic. She replied: 'He said, 'I burn for thee, Englishwoman'. "She made a small sound in her throat and looked down at her feet, adding softly, 'And I always will'." Many fans flocked to the comments to talk about the sneak peek. One said: "And that is possibly the best extract ever." Another said: "Amazing how such a short piece can conjure so many feelings. Amusement, sorrow, fear, anticipation. I can't wait to read this book!" While one added: "How can someone write words this powerful on a regular basis." Another said: "I'm greetin' already and I don't even know what's going to happen." And one wrote: "Smiling but with tears in my eyes reading that!" A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out is the 10th and concluding volume of the Outlander saga, however Diana previously took to Facebook to address fans' concerns sparked by the seemingly portentous title: "No, that doesn't mean Jamie's going to die." Clarifying the confusion, Gabaldon stated it was not a "death blessing", but the Blessing of St. Michael, intended for a warrior on the verge of undertaking an essential and dangerous mission. The reassurance allows fans to temporarily set aside their worries - yet with Jamie's ghost making an appearance in the novel, and his lack of immortality established, it's inferred the character will eventually succumb. Many followers of the series anticipate that Gabaldon's final literary endeavour will offer closure regarding the enigma of Jamie's ghost. Over time, Gabaldon has peppered hints about this mysterious apparition that manifests in 1940s Inverness, immediately before Claire (played by Caitríona Balfe) travels through the stones into Jamie's era. Among these veiled revelations, the author has intimated that the ghost seems to be a 25-year-old Jamie as he was at Culloden. Yet, Gabaldon also tempered this with the notion that ghosts have the autonomy to choose how they appear, detached from the age they were at the time of death. She further expounded that contrary to some theories, the phenomenon isn't Jamie performing any kind of astral projection across time - rather, it is indeed his spirit from after his demise. There isn't an exact completion date for her novel. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Outlander's Sam Heughan teases Jamie and Claire Fraser ‘loss' in season 8
The Outlander star suggested the couple faced fresh danger Outlander actor Sam Heughan has teased that his character Jamie Fraser and wife Claire (Caitríona Balfe) could be torn apart again in the eighth and final season of the hit Starz series. The 45-year-old Scottish star, who has a new film role, said the last outing would see his Highlander alter-ego as "more fragile having more to lose', after a teaser hinted at Jamie's death. He went on to address a possible separation between the two and said: 'Having lost Claire about 50 times, he knows what it is to lose her and he will do anything to stop that from happening. So yeah, it's been an amazing journey to go with them.' Each season of Outlander has seen the central couple thrown into peril and separated by various outside forces, but it looks like season eight could see even more of this. He went on to address the big season seven cliffhanger, which suggested their stillborn daughter Faith Fraser had miraculously survived thanks to a time travel intervention by Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon). Heughan hinted the song from season two, I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside, would function as "the jumping off point for season eight'. He went on to suggest the story would give answers as the series will "explore that the faith of it all perhaps". Moreover, Heughan said the events of season eight would be mind-blowing and their world is about to change very differently". Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, Heughan and his Outlander co-star Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin teased what else fans could expect from the final outing. The ending of the TV show has been of particular interest after the series surpassed the novels and takes a different path to the source material. Rebus star Rankin, 42, explained how it was "hard' because the show didn't finish adapting the books, with author Diana Gabaldon deep into writing the 10th and final novel. He said: 'And I think you know how do you tie up uh you know all of these stories and and make a satisfying ending?' Nonetheless, Rankin said the cast and crew wanted to deliver a strong final season, saying "we all wanted to come back and give something that felt satisfactory" for the fans. Season eight is also said to be 'bittersweet', a sentiment shard by executive producer Maril Davis. The Outlander panel comes after Starz shared a first-look teaser at season eight, featuring Jamie reading Frank Randall's (Tobias Menzies) book, which stated his death as the impending war finally hit. Claire looked shocked at her husband as he served up the big bombshell. Despite this, there are hopes that the show will finally give an explanation about Jamie's ghost, which was seen watching Claire in the series premiere over a decade ago.
