UPDATE: Family releases statement on Saratoga Springs homicide where woman, 8-year-old were killed
On Mar. 28, police responded to a 911 call in the area of 1200 N Willowbrook Lane in Saratoga Springs. The 17-year-old caller reported that she had returned home and found the two victims lying unconscious on the floor, covered in blood. She also stated that she believed a 15-year-old to be in the home.
New information from search warrants has revealed that officers found Lyman and Painter in the master bedroom, both having been shot in the head 'with a small caliber round.' Painter was cold to the touch, pale, and in rigor mortis, according to documents.
Lyman, the adult woman, was found to have her pants 'down around her knees.' When officers checked for a pulse, she showed signs of life. The officer initiated CPR until paramedics took over and transported her to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
A 15-year-old male was located in an upstairs bedroom and told officers he had been asleep. He was escorted to the living room. While waiting with an officer, the teen allegedly asked what happened multiple times and claimed he hadn't heard anything. The officer asked if the 15-year-old was aware of any 'weapons' inside the home, and he responded that he wasn't aware of any 'guns,' despite no mention of guns being the cause of death.
A search warrant was served on the residence, and two .22 shell casings were found inside the master bedroom. Using an alternate light source tool, crime scene technicians identified what they believed to be seminal fluids on the sheets near the area where Lyman was found.

'They're drawing more indirect and direct correlations to the 15-year-old that was in the house,' Chris Bertram, a private investigator, told ABC4.com.
The 15-year-old's bedroom was found 'in a state of disarray,' according to documents. Inside, officers located an empty beer can, two BB gun pistols, and handwritten notes. One note referenced 'serology,' 'DNA,' and 'firearm testing.' Another handwritten note stated 'this is a murder story.'
The doctor who was treating Lyman at the hospital before she passed away told police that he had located a substance that 'could be sperm' on Lyman. Doctors confirmed that she had experienced a gunshot wound to the head.
'Then they find other evidence that leads them to believe that there may be other circumstances in his case, especially evidence that may be related to a sexual assault,' Bertram said.
After an autopsy was performed on 8-year-old Eli Painter, the medical examiner confirmed that he had been killed by 'two fatal gunshot wounds to the head.'
'If a juvenile is involved in this, it's not something we discuss until charges are filed and adult charges are filed,' Bertram said.

Surveillance footage revealed that an individual could be seen walking around the residence during the early morning hours of March 28. They can be seen putting a white mask over their face, documents say, and walking behind a nearby residence, which reportedly has a connecting gravel path to the home where the murders took place.
A mask matching that description was uncovered in the 15-year-old's bedroom after another search warrant was filed by police, documents say. A basement door was also found to be unlocked. Search and Rescue teams, as well as dogs and drones, checked for any evidence nearby but did not locate the firearm used in the murder or anything else relevant.
'They're bringing that through the video evidence they found at the scene that matches the mask that they may have seen that's similar if not the same to the mask that they saw in the video of the person coming in and out of the house, they also find writings that are very telling as to a death or homicide investigating,' Bertram said.
A search warrant was returned on Lyman's cell phone, and officers located a text conversation between her and the 15-year-old. He made various threats toward the woman, saying things like, 'shut up witch,' 'I'm more happy when I'm not around you,' 'you're so f— mentally ill,' and 'do you know how insignificant you really are to my life?'
The search warrant that was unsealed was filed for information on the 15-year-old's cell phone. No information that was returned from that search is public yet. No suspects have been publicly identified by authorities, and information in search warrants only reveals evidence collected by police.
If the 15-year-old was involved in the crime, he 'may be in a juvenile facility, in a mental health facility, in a hospital, or with other family members who can account for him,' Bertram explained.

Authorities charged John Fuentes in relation to the death of a 14-year-old boy and the injury of a 19-year-old male The identity of the suspect arrested and charged in relation to the fatal shooting at the University of New Mexico (UNM) has been revealed. In a statement issued on Saturday, July 26, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) named 18-year-old John Fuentes as the alleged perpetrator. Fuentes was located by authorities in Valencia County and was taken into custody without incident on the afternoon of Friday, July 25, hours after the shooting, the statement said. He was then booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque on charges of murder in the first degree, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence. NMSP were initially called to the UNM campus in the early hours of July 25 after receiving a report of a shooting from the University of New Mexico Police Department, according to the statement. Campus police responded to an alarm signal at Mesa Vista Hall, an academic building located on campus, at 1:36 a.m. local time. Upon arrival, campus officers observed broken windows and suspected blood, and, after conducting a security sweep of the surrounding buildings, they discovered the body of a deceased 14-year-old male inside one of the dorms, per the NMSP. College police officers additionally received a call from the University of New Mexico Hospital stating that a 19-year-old male had come in with a gunshot wound and said he was shot at the UNM campus. NMSP said in the release that their initial investigation 'has determined that the incident involved four individuals who were hanging out in a dorm room in the Casas Del Rio complex.' 'At some point, for reasons still being investigated, the suspect began shooting a firearm at the other occupants in the room. The 14-year-old victim was fatally shot while the other occupants, along with the suspect, fled from the room,' the statement continued. Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? 18-year-old arrested in UNM shooting that killed 14-year-old boy
An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in a shooting at a University of New Mexico dormitory that left a 14-year-old boy dead and wounded a 19-year-old early Friday morning, authorities said. The incident involved four individuals who were reportedly playing video games in a dorm room at Casas del Rio, a privately owned on‑campus housing complex in central Albuquerque, UNM Police Chief Joseph Silva said at a news conference Friday night. Police initially responded to an alarm at nearby Mesa Vista Hall shortly after 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found broken windows and what appeared to be blood at the scene. 'While conducting a sweep of nearby buildings, UNM police located a deceased 14-year-old male inside a room at the Casas del Rio dormitory,' Silva said. Around the same time, a 19-year-old male arrived at UNM hospital, saying he had been shot on campus. New Mexico State Police took over the investigation shortly before 4 a.m. Preliminary findings indicated that four individuals were 'hanging out in a dorm room at the Casas del Rio complex' when, for reasons still under investigation, the suspect began shooting at the other occupants, State Police Chief W. Troy Weisler told reporters. The three other individuals fled the room after the gunfire. Using license plate reader technology, investigators identified and located the suspected shooter, who was arrested without incident around 2:30 p.m. during a traffic stop in Valencia County. He was riding in a vehicle with a family member at the time, officials said. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Joen Fuentes, faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and tampering with evidence. Authorities are still investigating how the suspect is connected to the victims. 'Part of our investigation is to determine why the individuals were there and to gather more details about what exactly transpired immediately before and after the shooting,' Weisler said. Most of the campus was placed under a shelter-in-place order after the shooting, which was lifted later Friday afternoon. The campus fully reopened Saturday for 'all planned activities.'

CNN Analyst Stunned After Trump Botches 'Easiest Question In Human History'
CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig was blown away after hearing President Donald Trump's answer to a question about whether he would pardon convicted sex trafficker and close Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. 'It's the easiest question in human history,' Honig told host Michael Smerconish on Saturday, quoting colleague Kevin Liptak as appropriately asking, 'Are you kidding me?' Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted of helping Epstein sexually abuse underage girls. On Friday, following the news that the Justice Department's No. 2 official had met with Maxwell in federal prison, a reporter asked Trump if he would consider a pardon or commutation for her. 'It's something I haven't thought about,' Trump replied. 'I'm allowed to do it, but it's something I have not thought about.' Honig expressed bewilderment at the answer. 'A pardon for the single worst, or No. 2 after Jeffrey Epstein, worst child sex trafficker in modern history?' he said. 'Absolutely not. N-O.' Ultimately, Honig said it was 'hard to imagine' that Trump would pardon Maxwell, though he noted 'other people who I know who are closer to Donald Trump and who have worked with him in the past say it could well happen.' Trump is facing escalating demands to release the files related to the case against the late Epstein, as the press continues to dig into his past friendship with the disgraced financier. The president left the country on Friday for a golf-heavy trip to Scotland, and was bombarded with questions about Epstein from reporters before takeoff and after touchdown. Related...
