GMA Network, TAPE lawyers meet in mediation conference
According to Mariz Umali's report on '24 Oras' Thursday, the mediation conference was held at the Office of the City Prosecutor of Quezon City
'We want to collect the amount that was misappropriated. The amount that should have been given to GMA but was not remitted by the officers of TAPE. We have been waiting for the remittance of the ad revenues. Unfortunately, despite repeated demands, hindi nabigay sa atin 'yon,' GMA Network's legal counsel Atty. Lynn Delfin said.
TAPE Inc. did not deny its obligations to GMA Network.
'I think TAPE naman is not denying that there's collectibles to the corporation. Maybe the main contention only is whether it's civil or criminal,' TAPE Inc.'s legal counsel Atty. Maggie Garduque said.
The prosecutor's office has set another mediation conference on June 11 to determine if GMA Network will accept TAPE Inc.'s offer.
'We have been saying din naman that management is open to listen and to see what offer they have. And if it's reasonable, we can decide on what to do about it,' Atty. Delfin said.
'Under the rules, 'yung mediation kasi is also dependent on the complainant if they are willing or open for settlement. So, in this particular case kasi maganda na nalaman natin on the part of GMA that they are open for settlement,' Atty. Garduque said.
Should the mediation fail on June 11, the preliminary investigation of the case will proceed, and the merits of the case will be discussed in court.
GMA Network, Inc. had filed a criminal complaint for estafa with abuse of confidence against officers of TAPE Inc. for the misappropriation of funds totaling P37,941,352.56.
The complaint stems from the respondents' failure to remit advertising revenues collected from clients, which had been contractually assigned to GMA Network under a 2023 Assignment Agreement. Despite multiple formal demands, the funds were not transferred to GMA because they were instead used for TAPE's operational expenses, in violation of the trust arrangement outlined in the agreement.

The Network's consolidated revenues reached ₱10.1 billion, up from the ₱7.8 billion recorded in the same period last year. Advertising revenue rose to ₱9.3 billion, driven by election-related placements during the May midterm polls, alongside higher revenues from production services and others. Operating expenses (OPEX) increased by 6% to ₱7.6 billion, mainly due to higher cash and non-cash production costs, as well as general and administrative expenses. Its strong revenue growth enabled the Network to deliver ₱3.8 billion in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the period ending June 2025, a solid 91% increase from the previous year. GMA Network's robust performance is complemented by its continuing dominance of nationwide ratings in H1 2025, according to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. Man arrested in Caloocan after running amok, firing shots
A 59-year-old man, reportedly a retired Philippine marine, was arrested after running amok and firing shots at a group of youth he accused of being drug addicts. According to Sangandaan Police chief Captain Zoilo Lopez, the suspect and his friend were on their way home from a drinking session when he got into an argument with youth, asking if they were drug addicts. This was when he brought out his gun, and fired shots. 'Nadaanan niya itong mga kabataan na ito na kumakain sa isang karinderya at sinita niya ito at ang sabi niya ay napagkamalan niya raw po itong mga adik. So nasagot siya ng isang kabataan, at 'yun po ang dahilan upang bumunot ng baril itong suspect natin at bigla na lang po silang pinutukan,' he said in a report on GMA's '24 Oras Weekend' on Sunday. (He came across these young people eating at a roadside eatery and confronted them, saying he had mistaken them for drug addicts. One of them responded to him, and that was the reason for the suspect to draw his gun and suddenly start shooting at them.) The suspect's friend, who was trying to ease the situation, sustained an injury after a bullet grazed his thigh. He was brought home, and did not file any charges against the suspect. The suspect, however, was later arrested by authorities in his residence where the firearm was also retrieved. He faces charges of attempted homicide, and alarms and scandal. 'No comment po, pasensya na po,' he said in the report. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
