A Canadian tourist has died after an apparent drowning incident in the Dominican Republic , local authorities confirmed.Dorian Christian MacDonald, 38, from Nova Scotia, was found dead on a beach in Puerto Plata on June 20 after reportedly going for a solo walk in the early hours of the morning.According to Dominican emergency services, MacDonald was last seen around 2 am walking alone on the beach near his hotel. His body was discovered at approximately 4:15 am in the surf along Maimon Bay, located on the island's northern coast.The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Authorities have not indicated foul play. A friend of the victim, Tara Mackenzie, described it as a 'drowning accident' in a GoFundMe post launched to help repatriate his remains.The Canadian government has acknowledged the incident. 'Consular officials are in contact with local authorities and are providing consular assistance to the family,' said a spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada in a statement. 'Due to privacy considerations, no further information may be disclosed.'MacDonald was traveling alone when the incident occurred. His family is now trying to bring his body back to Nova Scotia, where a funeral is being planned. According to Mackenzie, the total cost of transporting his remains, coordinating international paperwork, and funeral expenses could range from $10,000 to $20,000.'We just want him out of that cold system and back where he belongs with us,' Mackenzie wrote. As of Monday, the fundraiser had collected over $38,000 of its $40,000 goal.She described MacDonald as a deeply loving and joyful person. 'Dorian handed out hugs, compliments, and 'I love you's as freely as oxygen,' she wrote. 'The world feels a lot quieter and a whole lot less vibrant just knowing he's no longer a part of it.'This incident comes just months after the disappearance of American student Sudiksha Konanki, who went missing in the same country after entering the ocean with another tourist. Authorities believe she also drowned.Canadian officials continue to advise travelers to exercise caution when engaging in water activities abroad, particularly when alone or in low-light conditions.
