After making tons of money playing the safe haven trade, gold bugs are now shifting to silver in a dramatic bet that the white metal's time has finally come. Silver ETFs have surged around 21% in the last three months, crushing gold ETFs' modest 5% return as speculators abandon the stretched yellow metal for what could be the next mega trend in precious metals - poor man's gold. The silver surge hit fever pitch on Monday when MCX silver September futures smashed to a lifetime high of Rs 114,875 per kg. In international markets, spot silver rocketed 3.9% to $38.46 per ounce last week, hitting its highest level since September 2011. The rally was fueled by intensifying safe-haven demand after US President Donald Trump announced sweeping new tariffs, including a 35% duty on Canadian imports and blanket levies of 15% to 20% on most other trade partners starting August 1."Now it's not a question of should you own silver or not...it's about how much do you own," said Apurva Sheth, Head of Market Perspectives & Research at SAMCO Securities, highlighting the urgency gripping silver bulls. The white metal's explosive move comes as gold veterans sound the retreat. Gautam Shah of Goldilocks Premium Research, who rode gold from $1800 to $3500, abandoned his position last month. "Most of the positives were priced in and it has gone into a longish consolidation phase which is going to continue. But over the last few months we have been very-very bullish on silver," Shah said. His confidence in silver's potential is staggering. "If you have to take a 12- to 15-month view, I think $43 I would say is a medium-term target and $50 on silver is probably a slightly more longer-term target," Shah predicted. The shift reflects more than just profit-taking. Speculators are showing a stronger preference for silver over gold, likely due to the stretched gold-to-silver ratio and the prospect of silver prices catching up to gold's recent gains. Silver also benefits from supportive supply-demand dynamics, with the global market facing its fifth straight year of deficit. Motilal Oswal Financial Services , which had been bullish on gold since Rs 30,000 levels targeting Rs 50,000, called it quits earlier this month. "We've witnessed gains exceeding 30%, and historical data over the past 25 years shows that Comex gold has never achieved more than 32% returns in a single year," the brokerage noted, adding that "some signs of market fatigue are also emerging at these higher levels."The supply threat adds another explosive element to silver's story. "Silver is already in short fall. If US or other nations were to announce similar tariffs on silver or even worse ban exports like China has done in case of rare earth minerals then it could send silver prices to stratospheric levels," warned Sheth. The backdrop couldn't be more supportive of precious metals. The dollar index has dropped close to 10% over the last six months and about 10% since the beginning of this calendar year, according to Emkay Wealth Management. "This has already been priced in the gold prices in the international markets, but what we need to see is a further fall in the dollar caused by official rate cuts and a fall in market yields," the wealth manager noted.Emkay highlighted two key factors driving precious metals: the direction of US interest rates and an anticipated decline in the US dollar. "Given the economic conditions and the relatively lower inflation numbers, the likelihood of the Fed going in for a rate cut or two before the end of this calendar year is very high," the firm said. However, the new budgeted spending to the tune of $4.60 trillion could complicate matters. "The situation could become murkier because the resultant borrowings may put upward pressure on the yields," Emkay warned. For now, silver appears to be the precious metal of choice for those seeking the next big move. As Shah puts it: "If you are booking profits in gold, this might be a good time to top up on silver. Looks like a large mega trend is coming for this commodity."The question for investors is no longer whether to own precious metals, but which one will deliver the bigger payoff in the months ahead.: Recommendations, suggestions, views and opinions given by the experts are their own. Aparna Yadav's hubby accuses ex-associate of Rs 4cr extortion
Lucknow: Prateek Yadav, husband of Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women vice-chairperson and BJP functionary Aparna Yadav , has accused his former business partner of extorting over Rs 4 crore and threatening to ruin his reputation. An FIR has been filed at Gautampalli police station against three persons for alleged financial fraud, breach of trust, blackmail, and criminal intimidation on late Sunday. Yadav alleged that his former business partner had befriended him around 2011-12. Over the years, he pressured Yadav to partner in a real estate venture under the pretext of acquiring land near Shaheed Path. Yadav agreed to form Monal Infratech Pvt Ltd on May 25, 2015. While Yadav invested capital and acted as the company's promoter, the associate was made a director and given charge of operational responsibilities, including land acquisition and sales. Yadav said his associate misused his position with the intent to exploit his social connections. Instead of fulfilling his duties, the partner sidelined the company's business and siphoned off the investment for personal gain. The business partner began borrowing money from Yadav, citing fabricated family emergencies and financial crises. Trusting him, Yadav provided financial aid, expecting repayment. However, no money was returned. Yadav said that his health began deteriorating during Covid-19. Between 2020 and 2022, he suffered prolonged illness, compounded by successive deaths of his mother (Sep 2022), father (Oct 2022), and maternal uncle (Nov 2022). During this period, the partner allegedly intensified the financial exploitation and manipulated him emotionally to extract more funds. When Yadav recovered and confronted his business associate, he threatened him with legal consequences. According to the FIR, the busniess partner sent intimidating emails and WhatsApp messages to Yadav. Yadav also alleged that his business associate's two family members are complicit in the conspiracy.

All panchayats will have high-speed fibre network within 3 years: Telecom Secretary
New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal on Monday said that all Indian villages will have a high-speed fibre network within the next three years. The central government had launched an ambitious BharatNet programme to connect the villages. The primary objective is to provide unrestricted access to broadband connectivity to all telecom service providers. 'Government of India is spending Rs 140,000 to connect every gram panchayat with 1 gigabit per second connectivity. As we speak, roughly 50,000 panchayats have 1 gigabit per second connectivity with an SLA of more than 98 per cent,' the secretary said, speaking at the CII Global Capability Centers (GCCs) Summit. 'There's a long way to go, and we hope that within 3 years we will have all the village panchayats, which is roughly about 2.5 lakhs, plus the villages associated with it, which is roughly about 6 lakh, will get connected to a high-speed fibre network,' the secretary said. Speaking about GCC infrastructure in India, the telecom secretary said enablers of GCC are very well established in India, referring to the talent pool. 'Be it connectivity, the capability to innovate, the rule of law, or strong IPR protections. All these things make India a very attractive destination,' the secretary continued. Connecting telecom with GCCs, he said internet data costs in India is very low in India against the global average. Data costs are a key component of GCCs. 'We are about 9 cents per GB... USD 2.6 is the global average,' the secretary said. 'India saw one of the largest and fastest 5G expansions. We covered over 99 per cent of the districts. Only there are only two districts in the country where there is no 5G,' he added. Further, the secretary put special emphasise on security aspects, noting that India is amongst the top nations where the cybersecurity infrastructure, policies, response mechanisms, mitigations are top class. Going by definition, GCCs are offshore facilities set up by multinational corporations to manage a variety of business functions and processes for their parent organisations. (ANI)
