Draft Income tax Bill, 2025: LLPs likely to retain LTCG benefits

The government is likely to fix a key omission in the draft Income Tax (I-T) Bill, 2025, which could have widened the scope of alternate minimum tax (AMT) for non-corporate taxpayers such as partnership firms and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) that were earning only long-term capital gains (LTCG), according to a senior official.
The proposed legislation had removed a reference to Chapter VI-A deductions, which serves as a key qualifier for when AMT applies to non-corporate entities. Without this reference, the draft Bill appeared to imply that such entities would be liable to pay AMT.

A new slider-based setting called 'Only notify me below a specific price' enables alerts to be sent when a product drops to a set amount. Users can also choose to track specific colours or sizes. The Shopping Graph has products and prices from all across the web so it lets the user know when there is an offer that meets their criteria. These updated alerts are now marked with a Gemini sparkle icon, this highlights the use of AI-driven product suggestions. Visual inspiration for outfits or interior Google is also previewing a new feature coming to AI Mode this fall. It will allow users to explore shoppable outfit and room ideas using vision match technology. For example: whether you are looking for style inspiration for a green flowy dress for a garden party or design ideas for a bedroom. By analysing images and queries, it will surface personalised product matches from over 50 billion items in Google's Shopping Graph.

CBDT chief highlights tax dept's digital transformation on 166th Income Tax Day in Odisha

In a video message on the occasion of the 166th Income Tax Day celebrated by the Odisha Region here, Agrawal also lauded the crucial role of taxpayers in nation-building and reaffirmed the department's vision to continue enhancing taxpayer services and streamlining processes. Principal chief commissioner of Income Tax, Odisha region, Paramita Satapathy Tripathy, said, 'Marking over a century and a half of dedicated service to the nation, the celebration highlights the department's ongoing commitment to voluntary tax compliance, taxpayer service, and nation-building.' The event featured a Chhau dance performance by the Mayur Art Group and an award ceremony honouring meritorious officers and employees for their exemplary service. Distinguished doctors from across the state were also felicitated for their decades-long contribution to society. Goa Assembly passes bill to extend daily factory work hours to 10, cites 'Ease of Doing Business
PANAJI: The Goa legislative assembly has passed a bill to raise the daily work hour limit in factories from nine to ten to facilitate the 'Ease of Doing Business'. The assembly on Thursday night passed the bill seeking to amend provisions of the Factories Act, to extend daily working hours in factories and increase the permissible limit for overtime work. The Factories (Goa Amendment) Bill was tabled by the State Factories and Boilers Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar on Thursday during the ongoing monsoon session of the House. Through the bill, the government plans to amend section 54 of the Central Act, as applicable to Goa, and enhance the daily limit of working hours for adult workers from the existing nine to ten. It also seeks to amend Section 65 of the Act to raise the maximum overtime permitted in a quarter from 125 to 144 hours. The statement of objects and reasons attached to the bill said that the proposed amendments were aimed at facilitating the 'Ease of Doing Business' by reforming and simplifying regulatory frameworks. 'The amendments will provide greater flexibility in factory operations and align with evolving industrial needs while ensuring compliance with statutory safeguards,' according to the Bill. The government has clarified that the proposed changes do not entail any financial implications. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the House that the Bill would be referred to the President for assent before it takes effect as law.
