KUWAIT CITY, July 24: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah chaired the 20th meeting of the Ministerial Committee tasked with overseeing the implementation of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed between Kuwait and the People's Republic of China. The meeting was held Thursday at Bayan Palace. The session reviewed the progress of several strategic initiatives, with a focus on the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project, renewable energy development, housing, environmental infrastructure, including wastewater treatment plants, eco-friendly recycling, combating desertification, and advancing sustainable agriculture. During the meeting, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and Committee Rapporteur, Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat, delivered a comprehensive briefing on the steps taken by relevant Kuwaiti authorities to follow through on bilateral agreements. Ambassador Hayat announced that a high-level technical delegation from the Ministry of Public Works is scheduled to visit China early next week. The visit is aimed at enhancing environmental infrastructure cooperation and discussing the implementation of wastewater treatment projects across Kuwait. He also reported on recent meetings between Chinese officials and senior Kuwaiti authorities focusing on desertification control. The Chinese delegation, which visited for eight days, toured sites across Kuwait in need of land rehabilitation and submitted a technical report outlining implementation mechanisms for afforestation and anti-sand encroachment projects. These efforts align with directives from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. His Highness the Prime Minister emphasized the strategic importance of Kuwait-China cooperation and urged all involved ministries and agencies to intensify efforts to realize the vision of the country's leadership. LONDON, July 24: A group of Kuwaiti researchers actively participated in the 15th Gulf Research Forum, currently taking place at the University of Cambridge from July 22 to 24. The annual event, organized by the Gulf Research Center, hosts academics, experts, and decision-makers from over 180 countries, offering a platform for constructive dialogue on key political, economic, security, energy, and social issues in the Gulf region. Kuwait's presence at the forum underscores its growing contribution to academic and scientific research on Gulf-related challenges, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital transformation. Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Dr. Fai bin Salama, a cybersecurity researcher, said she was invited by the Gulf Research Center to moderate the forum's 12th workshop, titled "Enhancing Gulf Security Against Hybrid Threats: Building Resilience and Enhancing Regional Cooperation among GCC Countries." She also presented a research study proposing a unified framework to evaluate the readiness of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states in addressing cyber threats and boosting regional cybersecurity coordination. Talal Mulla Ali, a doctoral researcher at Brunel University London, presented findings from his study titled "The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Human-Machine Interaction in Social Media... to Reduce the Fear of Loss." His recommendations focus on the psychological and behavioral effects of AI on users interacting with machines across digital platforms. Meanwhile, Awrad Mulla Ali, a PhD researcher at the University of Birmingham, contributed a presentation on her study, "Applications of Artificial Intelligence and Their Value in Legal Translation and Protection from Hybrid Threats – A Case Study: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior." Her research explores how AI can enhance legal and security practices within government institutions. The Gulf Research Forum features 12 specialized workshops covering a broad range of Gulf-related topics, including developments in Iraq and Yemen. Since its inception in 2010, the forum has become a prominent international platform for academic exchange, policy dialogue, and collaborative research. This year's program includes the presentation of numerous research papers and discussion sessions aimed at addressing emerging regional and global challenges. KUWAIT: The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO), in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs, organized a specialized workshop on Tuesday titled 'Introduction to Compliance Management: Practical Applications' as part of its ongoing 'Tamkeen' initiative. The workshop aimed to strengthen the principles of governance and institutional compliance within Kuwait's charitable sector. Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), IICO Deputy Director General and Head of the Tamkeen initiative Abdulrahman Al-Mutawa said the workshop reflects the organization's commitment to promoting a culture of integrity, transparency and sustainability. He noted that IICO was the first charitable institution in Kuwait to establish an independent compliance and governance department in 2022 — demonstrating a proactive approach to institutional development. Al-Mutawa highlighted that the organization has successfully met all criteria of the institutional evaluation set by the Ministry of Social Affairs, including those related to organizational structure, risk management, governance and internal controls. He added that IICO continues to develop systems and policies aimed at achieving excellence in institutional performance. For her part, Acting Director of the Department of Charitable Societies and Endowments at the Ministry of Social Affairs Iman Al-Enezi said the workshop is part of a broader strategic initiative to embed a culture of compliance and governance in charitable institutions. She noted that the Tamkeen initiative, launched in 2018, aims to qualify professionals working in the sector and adapt to ongoing administrative and technical developments. Al-Enezi pointed out that since its inception, the initiative has conducted 46 training programs benefiting over 1,500 participants from various charitable organizations. She commended the efforts of IICO and the Tamkeen initiative, reaffirming the Ministry's commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance institutional performance in Kuwait's charitable and humanitarian sectors.
