ONGC, GAIL told to fulfil their CSR mandate in Konaseema
The Collector held talks on Tuesday (June 10) with the public sector units, ONGC and GAIL, which engage in oil and natural gas exploration, and observed poor funding under the CSR mandate.
'ONGC and GAIL failed to release the CSR grant for various projects proposed by the respective public representatives in the financial year 2024-25. These companies engaged in oil and natural gas exploration should fund all the projects proposed under the CSR mandate', said Mr. Kumar.
He reiterated that half of the total CSR funds should be allocated to the medical and health sector, while the remaining amount for developmental works. The MLAs of the Konaseema region have asked the ONGC to repair the roads that have been damaged due to the deployment of heavy vehicles for their operations.
MLAs Vegulla Jogeswara Rao, Datla Subba Raju, Bandaru Satyananda Rao, Deva Vara Prasad, ONGC and GAIL representatives were present.

HDFC Bank CEO Jagdishan moves SC against Lilavati Trust's FIR; hearing tomorrow
New Delhi: HDFC Bank Managing Director and CEO, Sashidhar Jagdishan, has approached the Supreme Court to quash an FIR filed against him by the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, which runs Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital. A Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and K Vinod Chandran agreed to urgently hear the matter on Friday after senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Jagdishan, submitted that three Bombay High Court judges have recused themselves from hearing his plea to quash the criminal complaint. The allegations against Jagdishan stated that one of the erstwhile members of the Trust had paid him Rs 2.05 crore for the sole purpose of harassing the father of one of the current members of the trust. This transaction was allegedly recorded in a handwritten diary and was discovered by the current members. The Trust further accused the bank of offering Rs 1.5 crore in the name of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to hospital staff, claiming it was an attempt to destroy evidence and interfere with the investigation. The controversy unfolded when HDFC Bank raised questions about financial mismanagement involving the Trust. As per the bank, trustee Prashant Mehta and his family members owe substantial amounts to HDFC Bank which were never repaid. They have now resorted to personal attacks on Jagdishan to intimidate and bully the bank. In a statement, the HDFC Bank said, 'Recovery and enforcement actions have been taken by the Bank over two decades and at every stage Prashant Mehta and his other family members have launched numerous vexatious legal actions. The Bank is confident that our judicial process will recognise the fraudulent intention and devious objectives of the Trustee and officials of Lilavati Trust of tarnishing the image of the Bank and its MD and CEO.' Following the episode, the Trust has filed a Rs 1,000 crore defamation case against Jagdishan, accusing him of making false and damaging statements against the organisation and its permanent trustee Prashant Mehta. The Trust said that the defamation suit was filed because of a series of 'malicious, false and defamatory' comments made by Jagdishan, which they claim are part of a larger attempt to harm the image and functioning of the charitable institution.

Amarnath Yatra Begins: ONGC sets up Yatri Niwas and disaster management complex for pilgrims in J-K
Amarnath Yatra Begins: State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) has set up a permanent disaster management complex at Baltal, Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir for pilgrims undertaking the Amarnath Yatra. This Disaster Management and Yatri Niwas Complex will become operational on Friday, the company said in a statement. ONGC is developing these complexes at four key locations – Baltal, Nunwan, Bijbehara, and Sidhra – in Jammu and Kashmir, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra from Jammu on July 2. The first batch of pilgrims set off from Lakhanpur to the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu amid tight security arrangements, marking the official start of the Amarnath Yatra 2025. The Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu serves as the primary base camp for pilgrims from across the country before they proceed to the cave shrine of Amarnath nestled in the majestic Himalayas of South Kashmir. "The Baltal Yatri Niwas and Disaster Management Complex, spread across 6,315 square metres, is now fully operational and includes a Yatri Niwas, VIP guest house, security infrastructure, and disaster-response facilities," an ONGC spokesperson said. The 38-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high shrine will commence on July 3 from the Valley via the twin tracks—the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter 14-kilometre but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The yatra will conclude on August 9. The ONGC spokesperson added that the Baltal facility will be formally inaugurated on July 4 by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in the presence of ONGC Chairman and CEO Arun Kumar Singh. The facilities are currently being set up at Nunwan in Anantnag district, measuring 8,500 square metres, and at Bijbehara in Anantnag (7,640 sq m). Both sites are expected to be completed by September 2025, he said. The Sidhra complex in Jammu, designed to serve as a vital hub for boarding, emergency management, and logistical coordination, is targeted for completion by September 2026. These facilities will be operated by the Amarnath Shrine Board under the Jammu and Kashmir government, the spokesperson said, adding that it will provide safe lodging, sanitation, and emergency support to people undertaking the Amarnath Yatra, adding that over five lakh people undertake it every year. This permanent infrastructure will also benefit the local population throughout the year, the spokesperson added. The Baltal facility will provide safe lodging, sanitation, and emergency support to people undertaking the Amarnath Yatra.
