Arrest made after man in his 30s allegedly assaulted in ealy hours in Sligo Town
A Garda spokesperson said members of the force and emergency services attended the scene at around 5:45am today.

A man in his 30s was taken to Sligo University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. His condition was believed to be stable.
Gardaí said the scene was preserved for technical examination.
The man who was arrested in connection with the incident has been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Co Sligo.
Investigations are ongoing, the spokesperson said.

Man charged over suspected 'random incident' in which woman allegedly raped
A man has been charged over what gardai believe to have been a random incident in which a woman was allegedly raped in a Dundalk park in broad daylight. The Irish Mirror has learned that gardai arrested a man after a woman was allegedly raped and sexually assaulted in a park area in Muirhevnamore at around 6pm last Friday. The alleged injured party is understood not to be known to the arrested man. A man (49), who has an Irish address and who we cannot legally identify due to the nature of the incident, has subsequently appeared before a sitting of Dundalk District Court in connection with the alleged incident. Garda Siobhan McCoy of Dundalk Garda station outlined facts of arrest charge and caution before the special court appearance on Bank Holiday Monday. The man is charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a woman, whereby he's accused of raping her. The alleged offences are contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act 1990, as amended by Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001. He was remanded into custody and is due to appear before another sitting of the court on another date. In a press release issued today gardai referred to the incident as a 'serious assault.' A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them. Any persons, including road users and pedestrians, who were in Muirhevnamore Park, Dundalk at approximately 6pm on Friday evening 1st August, 2025 and who may have footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Man (30s) killed in Offaly single-vehicle crash
A man has died in a single-vehicle crash in Tullamore, Co Offaly . Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident at Ballina Cross, Annaharvey, in Tullamore at about 11.50pm on Monday. The sole occupant of the vehicle, a man aged in his 30s, was fatally injured. The body was removed to the mortuary at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore, for a postmortem. READ MORE The R420 between Geashill and Cloncollig roundabout in Tullamore has been closed, and diversions are in place. Any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam, and were travelling in the area between about 11.40pm and midnight are asked to make it available to gardaí. Elsewhere, a 19-year-old cyclist who was injured in a collision in Clondalkin, Dublin, died at Beaumont Hospital on Monday. Waterford gardaí investigate assault on man in Dungarvan
Gardaí in Waterford had a busy August bank holiday weekend across the city and county, with Spraoi in the city and the All Together Now Festival in Currgahmore Estate. Generally both events were without significant reported incidents, said crime prevention officer, Sgt Deirdre O'Neill. 'There were arrests for public order, drunkenness offences and an increased number of detected offences for possession of controlled drugs throughout the city and county.' In one incident, an alleged assault was reported in Dungarvan town, on O'Connell Street. The male victim was assaulted on Saturday night or Sunday morning, August 2-3, when he was collecting food at a takeaway at about 1.20am.
