Delhi man claims he was stabbed and robbed of Rs 13 lakh, arrested for cover-up
The accused and his associate were arrested, and the entire stolen amount of Rs 13 lakh was recovered, the police said on Friday.
The incident was reported on Thursday when a call was received about a robbery involving a substantial sum of money, the police said.
The complainant, Subhash Chand, 22, who works as an accountant at a trading company, claimed that he had withdrawn Rs 13 lakh from a bank and was subsequently robbed on a flyover by six unidentified men on three motorcycles.
He alleged that the assailants stabbed him and fled with the cash.
'During the investigation, CCTV cameras were analysed, but no suspicious bikes were seen chasing the complainant.Further inquiry revealed that the complainant's injuries appeared superficial and inconsistent with being caused by a knife. Upon sustained interrogation, Chand broke down and confessed to the crime,' Sukant S Ballabh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, said.
Chand allegedly admitted that he had planned the staged robbery with his friend Vijaypal, 26.
According to the police, Chand, who has been employed at the trading company for two years, was reportedly under immense financial pressure after losing Rs 30 lakh in gambling.
In a desperate bid to recover his losses and repay the borrowed stake money, he allegedly concocted the plan to embezzle Rs 13 lakh from the company and cover it up as a robbery.
According to his alleged confession, Chand withdrew the cash from the bank and handed it over to Vijaypal at Rajouri Garden Metro Station.
Vijaypal then escaped using a Rapido bike service, reached Dhaula Kuan, and took a bus to his native village, the police said.

HYDERABAD: The State Task Force (STF) of the excise department on Saturday seized 21.3 kg of ganja worth Rs 10.7 lakh in twin operations and arrested three traffickers. STF team leader Nandyala Anji Reddy said the contraband was sourced from Odisha. In the first raid, the team searched the residence of a suspect named Rohan Singh in Dhoolpet. Initial sweeps drew a blank until officers inspected the puja room, where 10.9 kg of ganja wrapped in newspapers was found concealed behind framed portraits of deities. Rohan Singh and his associate Yashwant were arrested. Their associate, Rohit of Dhoolpet, is on the run. In the second raid at a house in Shivlal Nagar, Dhoolpet, the team recovered 10.4 kg of ganja from Sanker Singh and arrested him. His associates, Sushil Singh and Sarita from Dhoolpet, are absconding. The suppliers in both cases, Swapna Mandal and Rajveer Barik from Odisha, are also absconding. The accused were booked under separate NDPS cases at Dhoolpet excise station and remanded to judicial custody on Saturday.

Death toll of Odisha workers in blast rises to 9
Bhubaneswar: The death toll of workers from Odisha in the explosion at the chemical factory in Telangana rose to nine, with authorities confirming the identity of one more person using DNA-based analysis, an officer said on Saturday. The latest victim of the factory blast was identified as Purna Chandra Sahu, a native of Sukarpada in Cuttack district, said Pritish Panda, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Directorate of Odisha Parivaar. With his death, a total of nine persons from Odisha were killed in the powerful blast at a pharmaceutical plant in Pashamylaram in Telangana's Sangareddy district on June 30. Out of the nine deceased persons, three were from Ganjam district, two from Cuttack, another two from Nabarangpur and one each from Balasore and Jajpur districts, Panda said. The bodies of all deceased persons have been handed over to their family members, he said. Panda further said four persons were injured in the blast of which two were discharged after treatment while another two are under treatment. Among the injured persons, Samir Padhi from Ganjam district, who was in ICU with 35 per cent burn injuries, has been recovering fast and he is now brought out from the ICU, the officer said. In total, 14 persons from Odisha were affected by the major blast at the pharmaceutical plant in Pashamylaram. On Friday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of Odia workers who lost their lives in the explosion. The assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF).

Shahdol District Education Officer Phool Singh Marpachi acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and assured that the matter would be SDM Narendra Singh Dhurve confirmed to Aaj Tak that he had visited the schools for a spot inspection after learning of the alleged fraud. He admitted that not only was the quality of work substandard, but much of it remained incomplete.
