Convention to Mark Navodaya SHGs' Silver Jubilee in Style
Stalls displaying products crafted by SHG members, alongside exhibitions from banks and institutions, will highlight the entrepreneurial spirit of the groups. It will be a unique event as about 1.5 lakh women of Navodaya Self Help Groups are set to take part in the convention wearing a uniform dress code to celebrate the silver jubilee year of SHGs.
Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, the Trust's founder, emphasised the event's mission to project women's empowerment nationwide. Speaking at the SCDCC Bank headquarters during the invitation release, he noted that Navodaya SHGs, spanning nine districts with over 9 lakh members across 1 lakh groups, have fostered unity by distributing uniforms to erase caste and economic divides. The Silver Jubilee celebration will see 1.5 lakh women donning a uniform dress code, a first in India, symbolising solidarity.
The convention, starting at 10 AM, will be a star-studded affair. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will kick off the proceedings, while Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis will hand out welfare benefits. Deputy CM D K. Shivakumar will unveil a commemorative souvenir, and Speaker U T Khader will raise the cooperative flag.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi will honour high-achieving SHGs, with Dr. Rajendra Kumar presiding. Notable attendees include Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, Pejawar Matha seer Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji, ministers like K N Rajanna and Lakshmi Hebbalkar, former CM Dr. M Veerappa Moily, and MPs Capt. Brijesh Chowta and Kota Srinivas Poojary.
Marking 25 years of transformative work, the Rajatha Sambhrama will showcase the strength of Navodaya's self-help model, empowering women economically and socially. The event's scale and symbolism underscore its role as a beacon for cooperative movements, inspiring communities far beyond Karnataka's borders.

BENGALURU: Buses run by state transport corporations will stay off roads from 6 am on Tuesday, as corporation employees decided to go ahead with their indefinite strike after talks with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah failed on Monday. 'We have submitted the writ petition for legal opinion and will decide on Tuesday. The strike will start as announced,' Federation General Secretary Vijaya Bhaskar said. The JAC, which consists of trade unions of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), North Western Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) and Kalyana Karnataka West Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC), had called for an indefinite strike seeking implementation of many of their demands. The major demands include 25% pay hike with effect from January 1, 2024, settlement of pending salary arrears for 38 months (January 1, 2020, to February 28, 2023) and wage revision. Bengaluru: Despite an interim order by Karnataka High Court, transport corporation employees across the state have decided to go on a strike from 6 am on Tuesday (August 5), likely disrupting bus services across the state. The Joint Action Committee of the Trade Unions of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation pressed on with the strike after its marathon meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah failed to resolve two contentious issues -- payment of 38 months' arrears amounting to Rs 1,785 crore and a 25 per cent pay hike from January 1, 2024. .We are prepared for protests on August 5: Karnataka HM G offered Rs 718 crore as arrears for 14 months (from January 1, 2022, to February 28, 2023), citing a July 2022 report by retired IAS officer M R Sreenivasa Murthy. KSRTC Managing Director Akram Pasha maintained that employees cannot go on the strike on Tuesday in view of the court order. As a plan B, the RTCs have roped in private players to operate bus services "anywhere they want" after the Transport Department issued an order under Section 66(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Private buses can charge fares along the lines of KSRTC and BMTC, he said. The Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Associations has agreed to operate 4,000 buses, according to its president S Nataraj Sharma. The four RTCs are also roping in school and industrial buses. Pasha said RTC buses would also operate, with the strike having "only a 10-20 per cent impact". Pasha said the Sreenivasa Murthy report recommended against paying arrears for 24 months (2020 and 2021) due to Covid-19. He called the 25 per cent hike demand "too high". "The last raise was 15 per cent, which is above average. If the same is given, it will result in a financial burden of over Rs 1,700 crore. The four RTCs already have Rs 4,000 crore in liabilities towards PF payments, diesel expenditure, etc," he said.
