Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate landed in controversy after a video surfaced showing him playing an online rummy game on his mobile phone during a session of the state legislative assembly. The video, widely circulated on social media, was shared by Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Rohit Pawar, who launched a sharp attack on the minister and the government over the incident.advertisementRohit Pawar, the grandnephew of party chief Sharad Pawar, accused the Agriculture Minister of being insensitive at a time when the state is grappling with a severe agrarian crisis.'#_____!' , . pic.twitter.com/52jz7eTAtq— Rohit Pawar (@RRPSpeaks) July 20, 2025
"Since the Nationalist faction in power cannot do anything without consulting the BJP, even with countless agricultural issues pending and eight farmers committing suicide daily in the state, the Agriculture Minister, with nothing else to do, seems to have time to play rummy," he said in a post on X."Will these misguided ministers and the government ever hear the desperate plea of farmers demanding crop insurance, loan waivers, and price support? Come to the fields of poor farmers sometimes, Maharaj?" Pawar added while sharing the video of Kokate, who belongs to the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction and represents the Sinnar Assembly constituency.Taking a swipe at the government, Pawar said the Nationalist Congress Party faction in power is unable to function without consulting its ally, the BJP.The video appeared to show Kokate playing the Junglee Rummy card game while seated in the Assembly, prompting criticism over the government's priorities amid ongoing farmer distress.NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule demanded the resignation of Minister Manikrao Kokate over the incident, pointing out the contradiction in the government's stance. She said while the government claims to be cracking down on online gaming for ruining families, a state minister was himself seen playing rummy during an ongoing Assembly session."A video of the Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra has come out. When the House was in session and the debate was underway, he was playing rummy on his mobile...750 farmers have committed suicide in three months and the Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra is playing these games. He should resign for this dirty act; otherwise, the Chief Minister should remove him," she said.Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, also slammed the minister, saying, "Farmers in Maharashtra are in crisis today - some regions have suffered crop damage due to excessive rainfall, while others are facing a deficit, leaving farmers deeply worried. Yet, the state's Agriculture Minister is displaying insensitivity. He was seen playing rummy on his mobile phone during the Assembly session. Such an Agriculture Minister should be stripped of his ministerial post for at least a month."advertisementJoining the chorus, NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad posted a graphic mocking Kokate, showing him promoting the rummy game with the caption, "Farmers, forget guarantees...play rummy"- Ends

If I became CM, I would give Rs 1 lakh incentive to regular farm loan repayers: Mushrif

Kolhapur: Govt spent Rs 46,000 crore last year towards Mukhyamantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin yojana installments of Rs 1,500 for all eligible women. Therefore, the financial situation is tough, as a result of which, govt is unable to fulfil the promise of farm loan waiver as promised by Mahayuti during the assembly election, said NCP politician and minister of medical education Hasan Mushrif. Speaking at Vandur village in Kolhapur on Saturday evening, Mushrif said that if in the future he becomes the chief minister, he would increase the incentive to the farmers repaying loans regularly from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Due to the promise of a loan waiver, farmers have kept their loan dues pending, except in Kolhapur district, where 91% of agricultural loans were recovered. "Another promise we made is the loan waiver to the farmers. The situation is quite challenging. This year, we disbursed Rs 46,000 crore for Ladki Bahin. Recently, we found that as many as 14,000 men have been listed as beneficiaries. I have a different view on loan waiver. Farmers don't pay loans if govt declares the intention of a loan waiver. The dues keep pending. The banks go deep into crisis. Therefore, if I become CM in the future, by the grace of God and people's support, I will increase the incentive amount to Rs 1 lakh from Rs 50,000," said Mushrif. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Official IQ Test: What is Your IQ? | Answer 30 Questions to Find Out IQ International Undo Mushrif also said govt has not distanced itself from increasing the Rs 1,500 monthly Ladki Bahin instalment to Rs 2,100. "Press the button in front of clock (NCP symbol) and lotus (BJP symbol) during the upcoming zilla parishad and local body elections. We will not rest until we get Rs 2,100 into the accounts of Ladki Bahin beneficiaries," said Mushrif.

Nitesh Rane speaking as per instructions of his party seniors: Rohit Pawar comments on allegation that he was ‘ready to join BJP in 2019'

Pune: Responding to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister Nitesh Rane's claim that "Rohit Pawar was willing to join BJP in 2019", the NCP (SP) functionary and MLA from Karjat-Jamkhed constituency on Sunday said, "He (Rane) is speaking as per the instructions of his party seniors. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now " Rohit Pawar was interacting with the media on the sidelines of a visit to a party worker's office in Pune city. On Rane's comment, he further said, "When Rane was with Congress, he used to speak very aggressively. He would go before people with progressive thoughts. But after going to BJP, he is toeing the line of his higher-ups. He is now continuously trying to get a good position in the party." He added, "The Rane family members should speak after they look at their own past of jumping between parties." The MLA commented on various political developments during the interaction. On (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's visit to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Pawar said it was a family visit, and there is no need to take political inferences from it. "If the two brothers are coming together, it is a good sign as per the culture of Maharashtra," he said. Asked if he feels voices of dissent are stifled, Pawar alleged that investigating authorities, including the Enforcement Directorate (ED), had taken action against him when he tried to speak against the ruling govt in rallies like the Yuva Sangharsh Yatra. He added that action was initiated against him even when he posted a video of state agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate on social media. Pawar said cabinet minister Hasan Mushrif's recent statement, wherein he reportedly spoke about offering rewards to farmers if he became the chief minister, is "a commentary on state govt's ignorance towards farmers' issues".
