Climbed Mount Everest: Simone Inzaghi on Al-Hilal's historic win vs Manchester City

India Today3 days ago
Al-Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi made a striking comparison following his side's dramatic 4–3 extra-time victory over Premier League giants Manchester City, likening the win to 'climbing Mount Everest without oxygen.' The Saudi Arabian club progressed to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup with the biggest upset of the tournament so far.Inzaghi credited the win to the incredible commitment and heart shown by his players, who overcame all odds to secure a famous result.advertisement"The key to this result was the players, and the heart they put on the pitch tonight. We had to do something extraordinary because we all know Manchester City, that team,' Inzaghi said.
"We had to climb Mount Everest without oxygen, and we made it. All the players were exceptional in everything, in the possession phase, the non-possession phase,' he added.Al-Hilal produced a monumental effort in extra time, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Marcos Leonardo netting the decisive goals that saw them edge past the defending European champions.Inzaghi praised his side's organisation and technical execution, especially given City's strength in controlling possession."We were very well-organised in possession and we played well from a technical point of view against a team which is really aggressive and strong in possession,' he said.advertisement"(Pep) Guardiola, I believe, is the best coach in the world, but tonight we did our best and I believe we deserve this result,' he added.Al-Hilal will now face Brazilian side Fluminense in the quarter-final clash, scheduled for Friday, 4 July. The contest itself was a rollercoaster. Manchester City took an early lead through Bernardo Silva, but second-half goals from Marcos Leonardo and Malcom put Al-Hilal in front. City responded through Erling Haaland and Phil Foden to retake the lead, only for the Saudi side to mount a remarkable comeback in extra time and clinch a memorable victory.- Ends

MP's Reena wins 2 karate silver medals at World Police Games in US

Bhopal: MP Police constable Reena Gurjar clinched two karate silver medals at the World Police Games in Birmingham, USA, building upon her previous year's achievement of two gold medals. Reena showcased outstanding performance in both Kata and Kumite events. In Kumite, she triumphed over Brazilian officer Alencar before falling to the Philippines' officer Bejeramo in the final bout. Talking to TOI, Reena shared her initial expectations: "I won the gold medal last year by defeating a player from the Philippines, but this year I had to settle for silver. I will try my best to win the gold medal again next year." Her Kata performance saw her progress to the finals after defeating a South Korean competitor in the semi-finals, resulting in another silver medal. Hailing from Rajgarh, Reena received training at the MP Martial Arts Academy between 2009 and 2012. "The academy did wonders for me. Whatever I learned from there helped me reach such a height. I am also a coach there now," she reflected. She attributes her success to family backing and commitment: "Whatever I am able to do today, I am able to do it only because of my family and discipline. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo My mother and my sister supported me a lot. Apart from this, I always maintained discipline in sports and practice." Reena acknowledged academy support. "Without the support of the department, it was not possible to win this medal. The sports department has given me all kinds of support. The DGP and Director Sports have been very supportive to me." Her initial karate coaching came from Coach Jaidev Sharma during her academy tenure. "I can claim that the facilities being provided by the academy are some of the best available facilities in the country," she stated. Having secured around 15 gold medals in national events, Reena maintains her focus on upcoming competitions after her World Police Games achievement. "I believe in performing wherever I play. I will keep doing that," she affirmed.

Rasmus Ristolainen and two other players named by the Philadelphia Flyers have to move on by 2025

Rasmus Ristolainen and two other players named by the Philadelphia Flyers have to move on by 2025 (Image Via Twitter) The Philadelphia Flyers are one step away from yet another rebuilding phase, having endured yet another disappointing season in 2024-25. While they did act ambitiously to try to change their fate, the attempted transition had an uninspiring end, necessitating evaluation again. With the more talented newcomer Trevor Zegras infusing some youth and excitement into the roster, the focus is now on eliminating the long-standing impediments faced by the franchise. Philadelphia has to finally bring itself to part ways with players who have failed in their assignments to step onto a playoff-caliber path. Garnet Hathaway , Samuel Ersson , and Rasmus Ristolainen no longer fit the Flyers' direction Bokondji Imama Hit on Garnet Hathaway For all his brands of grittiness and toughness, this style is increasingly out of place in a speed-centric league. At 33 years of age, Hathaway scarcely registers on the score sheet while his hit of $2.4 million on the cap seems too much for a player who contributes meagerly on offense. With youth and faster play style taking precedence in Philadelphia, they would do better to give Hathaway's ice time to younger forwards who have that much more upside. The goaltending situation in Philadelphia, especially for Samuel Ersson, is one that invites scrutiny. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The 25-year-old Swedish netminder was raised to prominence last season but was never able to genuinely assert himself as a dependable option in the long term. With Dan Vladar's trading-in and prospects Ivan Fedotov and Alexei Kolosov developing, Ersson is finding his seat squeezed out. Given that he showed sporadic glimmers of competence, the Flyers are in no position to endure another parameter of uncertainty between the pipes. It may be prudent to trade Ersson to extract whatever potential value remains. 10 CRAZY RASMUS RISTOLAINEN PLAYS The toughest and most pressing decision is made by Rasmus Ristolainen. A divisive personality among Flyers supporters and a strong presence on the blue line for the past several years, his position has become entangled in inconsistency and internal discord. While there have been trade rumors, Philadelphia has not managed to get to the end of it. With a new regime coming in and shaking things up in the locker room, ending Ristolainen's tenure has become paramount. Letting him stay is the last thing the team needs, potentially tearing down the karma and focus that are so critical as they set about rebuilding morale and chemistry. Also Read: Zach Werenski and Odette Peters are soaking up sun-kissed luxury in Athens as part of their romantic European getaway The Philadelphia Flyers are at a critical juncture. Giving up on Garnet Hathaway, Samuel Ersson, and Rasmus Ristolainen goes beyond cap space; it is about identity. This offseason, if the Flyers embrace bold yet needed change to clear the way forward and on to a comeback in the playoffs of 2025–26.
