Alex de Minaur declared the carnage that has claimed eight of the top 10 men at Wimbledon was proof it's 'not easy out there' as both of Australia's top ranked players pushed into the third round.
After de Minaur recorded a positive four set win over Frenchman Arthur Cazaux, Daria Kasatkina, the 16th seed, took down Romanian rival Irina-Camelia Begu in three sets, this time without a pre-match vomit.
It leaves three Australians in the draw after Aleksandar Vukic was crushed by the world No.1 Jannik Sinner, the world's best player also avoiding the rampant exits of seeded players.
Fifteen of the 32 men's seeds fell in the first two rounds, and 15 of the women's.
'It just shows you, this sport, it's not easy out there. Anything can happen on any given day,' de Minaur after his 4-6 6-2 6-4 6-0 victory.
Having labelled Wimbledon his 'second home slam' given he's engaged to British star Katie Boulter, de Minaur said he was energised to go deep after storming through the final set, dropping just 15 points.
The draw has opened up big time for de Minaur who will next play Denmark's August Holmgren, a qualifier ranked 181 places below him who knocked out Czech 21st seed Tomas Machac in a marathon lasting four hours and 38 minutes.
'All my energy goes towards hopefully playing a lot of matches in the next couple of weeks here,' de Minaur, a quarterfinalist last year, said.
'It's a second home Slam for me. Over the last three, four years I've definitely felt the love here – it's a special place to play tennis.'
Kasatkina had to overcome some nervous moments, in the match not before it, and showed signs of frustration before taking her win 6-2 4-6 6-1 to continue to fly her new country's flag.
'I prefer this fire and getting this anger than when I don't feel the energy at all. So sometimes I was screaming to the box and stuff, but that's important, it gives you energy,' Kasatkina said.
She'll next face 18th seed Liudmila Samsonova, who's already knocked out teenage Australian star Maya Joint in the opening round.

Matildas; Joe Montemurro says his first camp has been intense

Don't miss out on the headlines from Football. Followed categories will be added to My News. Matildas coach Joe Montemurro says he's balancing building the next generation of world class players while still winning now and after two games in charge is adamant it's 'looking positive' he can do both. Montemurro has seen a batch of his next-in-line talent through two games against Slovenia with more of his 33-player squad set to strut their stuff against Panama on Saturday in Bunbury in the absence of a host of first-choice players. The intensity has been high during the new coach's first camp and he conceded there are a few 'sore bodies' as he tries to drill down his style of play in a short period of time. 'But we have to send that message to make this is the level we need to be training at and this is the level they need to take away from the national team,' Montemurro said. 'We've seen a lot of talent and I'm looking forward to the next two games.' Montemurro has made his name as a club coach at some of the world's biggest but transitioning to national duties means some adaptation from him as much as players, given the limited access to them. But he's working out his system and hopes everyone involved in his first camp will take the right things away, and be better for them when they next link up. 'When you are working with players every day you can drop feed them messages and slowly add you r layers of building to where you want to go,' he said. 'When you have a short amount of time you've got to be a lot more clearer and more thoughtful with the messages when you are together and make sure they take home some ideas that we could bring back going forward. Joe Montemurro with Teagan Micah (Photo by) 'The biggest one is to give them some base principles they can take with them all the time and we can see their growth while they are not with us.' When asked about exposing 'fringe' players during the four games with the likes of Sam Kerr and Mary Fowler unavailable, Montemurro was adamant there are 'no fringe players'. 'Everyone is up for an opportunity, it's really important to send that message,' he said. 'That's why this camp has been important, to look at some players but also put in some ideas and the more players we can have a look at, the better it has been. 'It';s now giving them the base things, the three or four key things that being a Matilda is, and giving them opportunities in real scenarios. 'It's been the [perfect camp for that.' LIVE UPDATES: West Coast Eagles hunt second win as Greater Western Sydney come to Perth

West Coast has made steady progress across the last two months but it's time the young Eagles learnt how to win as Greater Western Sydney come to town. Malakai Champion becomes the eighth debutant as he takes the sub vest while the Eagles will shape up the same as against Collingwood across the ground. The Giants are without Coleman medallist Jesse Hogan and star midfielder Lachie Whitfield, meaning there are no All-Australians on the field tonight. Follow all the action in our live blog. The Giants claimed an 81-point victory in round four when Jesse Hogan peeled off an equal career-high nine goals. However, Hogan will miss tonight's clash alongside Lachie Whitfield who is injured. West Coast look the same across the field tonight with debutant Malakai Champion set to fly from the bench. The Eagles have been able to avoid big smashings lately but they still have just one win. It's a chilly Friday night in Perth but things are about to heat up at Optus Stadium when West Coast host Greater Western Sydney. The Eagles have named an eighth debutant this season with NGA product Malakai Champion to play as the sub after veteran wingman Jayden Hunt was dropped. Now the big question is will the Eagles be able to ride the Orange Tsumani to success or will they wipe out in another defeat? We'll soon find out with bouncedown at 6.20pm.

Joe Daniher return rumours denied by Sydney coach Dean Cox

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. Swans coach Dean Cox has categorically denied that the club has reached out to premiership-winning key forward Joe Daniher as a potential solution to their attacking problems. Sydney has been far from their free-flowing attacking best this season, with last year's key trio of Joel Amartey, Logan McDonald and Hayden McLean all impacted by a combination of injury, suspension and form issues in 2025. Daniher stepped into retirement after last year's grand final triumph with the Lions, and is currently gallivanting around Europe while focusing on business interests. But it hasn't stopped reports linking him with a potential AFL comeback in the red and white. The Swans have also been recently linked with a move for the Bulldogs' former number-one draft pick, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, but it is the Daniher connection that has been stronger over the past fortnight. The Swans also initially tried to lure Daniher to the Harbour City before he eventually left Essendon for Brisbane at the end of 2020. However, Cox was adamant that the Swans had not picked up the phone to the 31-year-old. 'As a footy club, we haven't inquired or spoken to Joe,' Cox said. 'I can categorically say that. 'Having said that, I make sure the list management team are exploring everyone across the country to improve our list. Joe just hasn't been on that list. 'I wouldn't mind going over to Europe to say hello. But no, we haven't made any contact.' Isaac Heeney and Will Hayward are the only two players who have kicked 20+ goals this season for the Swans, while Amartey is set to return for Sunday's clash against Fremantle as the club's main key forward threat. Meanwhile, Daniher's former coach Chris Fagan also played down any talk that he could be convinced to pull on the boots again. The pair teamed up for the ultimate premiership success against the Swans last September, and it's clear that it was the highlight that Daniher wanted to end his career with. 'I'm nearly 100 per cent sure, 99.99 per cent sure,' Fagan said. 'Joe is enjoying life at the moment, and the other thing I'd be confident with is if he did (return), he would play with us. 'I've been texting him a little bit while he's been in Portugal and Spain, enjoying life, so I don't think he'd be in great nick right now. I'd be very, very surprised if Joey ever plays footy again.' Originally published as Sydney coach Dean Cox denies club has reached out to Joe Daniher about an AFL return
