Jessica Simpson rolls with wardrobe malfunction on 'Today' show
The multi-hyphenate "A Public Affair" singer, 45, rolled with the punches when she experienced a minor wardrobe malfunction while performing on the "Today" show's Citi Concert Series Wednesday, July 23.
While performing a medley of her '90s and 2000s hits "I Think I'm in Love with You" and "With You," her pale pink satin corset-style top appeared to slip down on the left side, showing a pink bra.
"Of course, I have, like, a malfunction here and everywhere. But it's OK. I think my boob stayed in, so that's good," she told the "Today" hosts afterward.
Simpson, whose last musical project was a Christmas album in 2010, released the first half of her two-part EP, "Nashville Canyon, Part 1," in March. Her set melded songs new and old, from "Fade" off her upcoming September EP release to 2005's "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'."
"It was incredibly healing" to write new songs, Simpson told co-host Jenna Bush-Hager. "I was in Nashville; it was a crazy time for me. My life literally flipped upside down, and I really just had to focus on my purpose."
She was "trying to inspire myself to get back up there, have the courage to do it in the face of heartbreak and the face of life completely changing," Simpson added.
"Music saved my life. Nashville saved my life. All the songwriters, my band, everybody."
In January, the singer and businesswoman revealed in a statement shared with USA TODAY that she and her husband of 10 years, Eric Johnson, were "living separately (and) navigating a painful situation in our marriage."
They share three children: daughter Maxwell Drew, 13, son Ace Knute, 12, and daughter Birdie Mae, 6.

Rupert Everett is saying au revoir to "Emily in Paris," but not by choice. The actor, who played designer Giorgio Barbieri in one episode of the Netflix show's fourth season, told Vanity Fair he was devastated to learn he will not be returning for Season 5. "I was fired," Everett, 66, claimed. "I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, 'Next year we'll speak.' I waited for them to call me – but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me." USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Netflix for comment. "Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end," he told the outlet. "When they write the screenplay, they think they want you – but then things change, and they lose your character. I don't know why." Still, Everett said he was upset about not being brought back. "For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn't get over it," he said. Lily Collins stars in "Emily in Paris" as Emily Cooper, an American who moves to France for work.
