Katie Taylor fight garners six million viewers worldwide, setting US records

Katie Taylor's fight with Amanda Serrano was watched by six million viewers across the globe, co-promoter Most Valuable Promotions said. The Irish girl won a points victory to defeat Serrano for the third time and retain her super lightweight title. In the US, an estimated 4.2 million viewers tuned in - more than hockey's Stanley Cup Final, the WNBA Final and the French Open Finals - making it the most-watched professional women's sports event of 2025. The live-streamed event was No. 1 on Netflix in the United States, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and made the top 10 in 43 countries. A sold-out crowd of 19,721 people were also in attendance, generating a $2.63 million gate at Madison Square Garden, the highest gate ever for a women's boxing card, and the highest gate for a female sporting event in MSG history. The third instalment of the rivalry also broke the official Guinness World Record title for the most world championship belts ever contested on a single fight card, male or female, with 17 world titles. 'Taylor vs. Serrano 3 wasn't just a fight; it was the start of a movement for boxing and redefined what's possible for women's sports on a global stage,' MVP co-founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian said. 'We've made it our mission to make women's boxing a global force, and this is proof that the demand is there for premium content and only growing. 'Thank you to Netflix and Madison Square Garden for sharing our commitment to elevate women's sports and for helping us deliver this moment to the world.'

Katie Taylor hailed as 'Ireland's greatest sportsperson' after Serrano win

Katie Taylor cemented her place as the greatest ever female boxer and arguably Ireland's best sportsperson of all-time by beating Amanda Serrano for a third time at the Mecca of Boxing. On a night when herself and Serrano made more history inside Madison Square Garden, Taylor produced a performance for the ages on the biggest stage. Streamed around the world on Netflix, the all-women's event broke the Guinness World Record for the number of world titles on the line on a single card, male or female, with 17 contested over the course of the evening. A sold-out crowd of 19,721 packed into the iconic New York venue, with the gate and viewership set to smash records when the figures are released. "It just means the world. Honestly, I can't believe that this is my life," a delighted Taylor said after beating Serrano by majority decision."I'm headlining a show in Madison Square Garden, all-female card. Looking back on the whole journey, what an amazing life."These are nights that I dreamed of as a kid and to be sitting here again as a winner, I'm so happy, so grateful." Taylor successfully defended her super-lightweight world titles against her great rival, with two of the judges scoring the bout 97-93 to the Irish fighter. The other had it a 95-95 draw. It was a dominant display from the 2012 Olympic champion, who kept Serrano at distance throughout the ten-round contest, carefully choosing her punches as the Puerto Rican failed to land much of her own. Many expected Taylor to call time on her career after the trilogy fight, but she admitted she still wants that Croke Park bout. When asked if she could ease her fans' minds by telling them she would fight in Ireland one last time, she responded by saying: "Maybe in Croke Park. That would be unbelievable." Unfortunately, the chances of a Croke Park fight realistically taking place are slim at best. Taylor's promoters Matchroom have explored the idea a number of times in recent years, but the cost of renting the stadium and the security costs that go with it have been massive stumbling blocks. Without some sort of financial help from the government, it seems very unlikely that an event at GAA Headquarters will take place. And the magnitude of the New York event would be very difficult to follow up, with Taylor saying she will make a decision on her future 'very soon'. "Absolutely unbelievable to be part of a show like this and to be headlining an all-female card. It was an absolute privilege," stated Taylor. "These are the sort of opportunities that people didn't think were even possible a few years ago."Just seeing the atmosphere, seeing the amount of people that came out to support an event like this. The atmosphere was absolutely electric again tonight. "I didn't think it could get even any louder than the first time we were here, but it was an unbelievable atmosphere, amazing event and I'm very, very proud to be headlining such an important event for women's sport." The win took the Bray native's record to 3-0 against Serrano following victories over her at MSG in 2022 and in Texas last November. "'I'm just so grateful for Amanda Serrano. What an amazing champion and we created history together three times," Taylor said of the Puerto Rican. "My name will always be embedded with hers forever. I'm very, very happy about that. What we've been able to create over these last few years has been unbelievable. "It's amazing to have a rival like that in the sport and this has brought an event like this tonight, like an all-female card because of what myself and Amanda have been able to do, to produce over the last few years so I think both myself and Amanda are just sitting back very, very proud right now." Serrano also paid tribute to Taylor, posting on X: "So blessed to have shared the ring with such an amazing fighter Katie Taylor. To be considered the greatest you have to act like one. She does that both in & out the ring. Thank you truly." Promoter Eddie Hearn believes the win cements Taylor's legacy as the greatest female fighter of all-time - and he can see her continuing to fight. "I feel like Katie could do another 20 or 30 rounds. She'll decide if she's going to fight again. For me, I think she's got at least 11 or 12 left, to be honest with you," he joked. The victory saw Mike Tyson win a $1million bet with Serrano's manager Jake Paul, which the YouTuber-turned-boxer offered him ahead of the fight. "Congrats to Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano on the trilogy fight on Netflix. Jake Paul see you at dinner to collect my million," the heavyweight great wrote on social media. The second instalment of Taylor v Serrano came on the Tyson v Paul card last year. Fellow Irish boxer Michael Conlan paid tribute to his former Olympic teammate, writing: "The greatest Irish athlete of our time. Congrats champ." Many had Taylor clearly winning the fight, but Netflix's unofficial scoring had it as a 95-95 draw, which angered plenty of viewers. "True champion without a doubt regardless of the totally biased production and narrative," former Ireland footballer Kevin Kilbane said afterwards. "Katie Taylor is our greatest sportsperson."

Serrano told 'just deal with it' after Taylor complaints ahead of historic event

The word legacy is being thrown around a lot this week in New York - but nobody is more deserving of the praise than Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. It's the third meeting between the pair this weekend, but the event is very different to the one they fought on a little over seven months ago. While their rematch was the most watched women's sporting event in US history as 74million tuned in worldwide, it was the support act to the gimmick that was Jake Paul v Mike Tyson. Now it headlines a historic all-female card at Madison Square Garden, which will set a Guinness World Record for the most world championship belts ever contested on a single fight card, with 17 on the line this Friday. "I'm just so excited to be headlining such a huge, iconic moment like this," said Taylor after an open workout at the World Trade Centre as she was joined in the ring by young fans. Some showed their boxing skills, others their Irish dancing. "I didn't think it was going to get any bigger than the last fight but here we are headlining an all-female card at such an iconic venue in Madison Square Garden," Taylor continued. "This is the stuff of dreams." Having gone into the lion's den with very little Irish in attendance last November in Texas, Taylor will be backed by a huge Irish support this week. She added: "This is absolutely insane. This is something I could only dream of as a kid, to be involved in nights like this. I don't take it for granted. "It's going to be an epic atmosphere in MSG, all the Irish and Puerto Rican fans coming together. It's great to see so many Irish people here." There was a large number of young girls in attendance at the workout event and it is inspiring the next generation that means the most to Taylor. "This is why myself and Amanda are doing nights like this, to inspire the next generation. It's amazing to see so many young girls boxing," she said. Serrano echoed those words, saying: "They can be inspired. They can say 'I want to headline Madison Square Garden, I want to make the sort of money that they're making'. That's what makes me happy. "I don't want these girls to go through what we went through. The struggle was real. I was getting paid $50, $100 (per fight) so it was pretty sad. "Obviously we're doing the same thing, fighting just as hard, but getting what we deserve." There is a strong possibility that this could be Taylor's last ever fight and Jason Quigley says her impact on boxing and sport as a whole is immeasurable. Quigley goes way back with Taylor, having trained alongside her with Team Ireland back in their amateur days. "I don't know if there are any words really to put into context what she has done for the sport," the Donegal man said of his former teammate. "She's been an unbelievable ambassador for boxing, for sport, for Ireland and for women as a whole. She really, really has. "She's changed the face of boxing for women. She is the reason women are able to box in the Olympics. "She's been the reason why women's boxing has reached such a height in professional boxing. "The thing about Katie, and I've said it time and time again, she is just as much a champion as a person outside the ring as she is inside the ring. Katie is such a lady, so well-grounded, such great manner, such great likeability. "It's hard to get that. She's one in a million." Amidst all the fanfare and niceties in the pre-fight build-up, Taylor and Serrano will go into the trenches in an all out war once again this Friday. The Puerto Rican's team were furious with a clash of heads in the last fight that caused a bad cut above the seven-weight world champion's right eye. The noise was so loud that Taylor was forced to state she was not a dirty fighter in the post-bout press conference. Ahead of the trilogy, Serrano has demanded the exclusive use of legendary cutman Mike Bazzel, which has angered England's Ellie Scotney, trained by Shane McGuigan, who also wanted to have him in her corner. Quigley says Serrano will have to suck up Taylor's style and try to nullify it when they step in the ring again. "That's the way that Katie fights. She's a come forward fighter. She has her hands up on her face and she comes forward," he explained. "She never intentionally drove the head in. She never intentionally put a headbutt in there. But yeah, she does come forward a lot with her head, but that's just her style. "That's the way she is and it's nothing illegal in my eyes so Serrano is just going to have to deal with that and work a game plan around that." Taylor is the outsider in the betting for the trilogy, despite being 2-0 up against her great rival, but Quigley expects her to come out on top again. "They've been unbelievable fights and everybody keeps thinking Katie maybe has too much wear on the tyres now at this stage, but she keeps proving everybody wrong," he said. "She's got a ferocious belief in herself. She's got a ferocious heart and discipline and work ethic that I just think that's what keeps pulling her through these fights. "Of course, she's got all the skill in the world, all the talent as well, but sometimes in professional boxing, it comes down to how much do you want it and how much belief you have in yourself, how much grit and how much you can go into the trenches. "I think Katie has that in bags full and I think that's going to prove dividends again for her. I believe that she comes out on top."
