Wimbledon 2025: Sabalenka overcomes Bouzkova, reaches third round
As the sun played hide-and-seek with the grey clouds that hovered over Centre Court, Sabalenka kept knocking on the door in the opening set but was shut out by Bouzkova each time and dropped serve with a double fault in the 11th game.
A frustrated Sabalenka let out a scream when she failed to convert a breakpoint in the following game but the 27-year-old quickly composed herself to force a tiebreak with a backhand winner on her next opportunity.

The three-time Grand Slam champion from Belarus, who has a golden chance to claim her first Wimbledon title with several seeds losing early, led the tiebreak after a couple of errors from Bouzkova and wrapped up the set with a forehand winner.
An untimely error at the net by Bouzkova gifted Sabalenka the break in the fifth game of the second set and there was no looking back from there with the twice semifinalist holding firm to close out the win.

Yuki Bhambri and Rithvik Bollipalli also progressed, but Rohan Bopanna exited India's N Sriram Balaji moved into the second round of the Wimbledon men's doubles event on Thursday, joining fellow Indians Yuki Bhambri and Rithvik Bollipalli, who had progressed a day earlier. Balaji, ranked world No. 74, partnered with Miguel Reyes-Varela of Mexico to secure a straight-sets victory over the American pair Learner Tien and Aleksandar Kovacevic, winning 6-4, 6-4 in their opening-round clash. The match, which lasted just 71 minutes, saw the Indo-Mexican duo break their opponents once in each set, controlling the tempo and closing out the match without much resistance. Balaji and Reyes-Varela now face a significantly tougher challenge in the second round, where they are set to take on the tournament's fourth seeds, Marcel Granollers of Spain and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina—both highly experienced doubles specialists. Earlier, Yuki Bhambri and Rithvik Bollipalli secured their places in the second round with opening-day wins on Wednesday. However, it wasn't a successful campaign for veteran Rohan Bopanna, who suffered a first-round exit. The progress of three Indian players into the second round marks a positive development for Indian tennis at Wimbledon, as Balaji, Bhambri, and Bollipalli aim to go deeper into the prestigious Grand Slam tournament.
