Mataf area ready for Hajj 1446 with capacity of 107,000 pilgrims per hour
MAKKAH — The General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has confirmed the full readiness of the Mataf area to receive pilgrims for Hajj 1446, as part of comprehensive organizational plans to ensure safety, comfort, and high-quality services for worshippers at the Grand Mosque.
The authority announced that the tawaf capacity of the Mataf has reached 107,000 pilgrims per hour, spread across the ground level, first and mezzanine levels, and upper floors, including the rooftop.
In total, the Mataf can accommodate up to 203,000 worshippers across all levels during peak hours.
Officials said that the entire Mataf area has been made accessible exclusively for pilgrims performing tawaf.
Dedicated entrances and main and side gates have been allocated to streamline access to the Mataf, with specific gates designated for services and emergency use to optimize safety and crowd management.The move comes under the directives of Saudi leadership to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience for the Guests of God, and to facilitate the performance of Hajj rituals with ease and tranquility.

RIYADH: The city of Makkah features numerous historical landmarks that reflect its urban development and architectural uniqueness. Among these is Kawir Palace, also known as Biban Palace, one of the oldest and most notable historical palaces. It embodies authentic architectural elements and symbolizes the social and cultural diversity of the early 20th century, serving as a model of local architecture connected to social changes in Makkah, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Owned by a local merchant nicknamed Kawir because of his trade in limestone quarrying, a prevalent building material, the palace's architecture and strategic location in Makkah's prominent Biban area highlight its significance. The palace was built between 1910 and 1920 and is on a hill overlooking the historic Biban area, offering panoramic views, the SPA added. After restoration, the palace could serve as a museum of traditional Makkah architecture, a community cultural center, or a luxury heritage guesthouse for experiential tourism. The construction used local materials and techniques, including local stone for the foundation, limestone for wall insulation, and clay, wood, and gypsum for interiors. Indian teak wood was used for some doors and windows, while the facades featured carved wooden windows (roshan) and geometric motifs. The ceilings feature handmade gypsum decorations, reflecting local craftsmanship. The palace comprises five floors, featuring spacious halls, reception areas, and internal courtyards for ventilation, according to the report. The palace provides valuable architectural lessons, particularly in the integration of form and function. Traditional methods offer solutions for ventilation, privacy, and thermal insulation, emphasizing local identity over imported styles. Tourism Ministry intensifies inspections across summer destinations, records 170 violations
Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — The Ministry of Tourism has stepped up its regulatory oversight of tourism activity providers across various summer destinations in cities and regions throughout the Kingdom, carrying out approximately 2,750 inspection visits over the past month. These inspections resulted in the detection of around 170 violations, as part of the Ministry's efforts to ensure that all providers of tourism-related activities are properly licensed in accordance with the Tourism Law. The campaign aims to protect the rights of tourists and visitors — both domestic and international — during the peak of Saudi Arabia's summer tourism season. In the Asir region alone, the Ministry's inspection teams conducted more than 420 visits, uncovering over 25 violations. In Taif, more than 360 inspections were carried out, resulting in about 25 violations. Meanwhile, in Jeddah, over 1,680 inspections were conducted, revealing more than 110 violations. In Al-Baha, more than 280 inspections led to the discovery of five violations. The Ministry stressed that all tourism activity providers — including travel agencies, tourism consultancies, and event organizers — must adhere to the provisions of the Tourism Law and its regulations to safeguard the interests of tourists. It also urged the public to report any complaints or service-related issues by contacting the unified tourism center at 930.
