At least 29 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza since dawn on Saturday, local hospital sources told Al Jazeera, as strikes intensified amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations. Among the dead were at least two civilians reportedly waiting for aid distribution, the sources said.
The Israeli military struck multiple areas, including the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, where at least two people were killed in an air raid on a family home. Another strike in Gaza's az-Zarqa neighbourhood killed one person and injured others, according to Palestinian news agency.

A separate attack targeted a school sheltering displaced civilians in Gaza, killing at least five, while one of the deadliest strikes hit a makeshift tent in al-Mawasi, where seven members of a single family were killed.
The escalation comes as Hamas issued a positive response to a proposed ceasefire deal, in what observers describe as a familiar pattern of intensified bombardment ahead of potential truce agreements.
Meanwhile, in southern Lebanon, an Israeli drone strike hit the town of Shebaa, near the intersection of the Lebanese, Syrian, and Israeli-occupied Golan Heights borders. Casualty details were not immediately available.

Israel's war on Gaza
The Israeli army has launched a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing at least 57,012 Palestinians, including 134,592 children. More than 111,588 people have been injured, and over 14,222 are missing and presumed dead.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. The proposed deal includes a pause in hostilities, increased humanitarian aid, and negotiations on the release of captives.

Online left-wing news website quoted a PSOE employee who accused Salazar of making obscene comments about her clothes and body, inviting her to dine alone with him and asking her to sleep at his home while working in a role junior to him at Moncloa Palace, the prime minister's official residence and workplace. Reuters was not immediately able to contact Salazar for comment. The scandal involving Salazar came just as Sanchez was set to speak at the PSOE's headquarters in Madrid, where he was due to announce measures to assuage members of his party concerned about the damage to its reputation and its ability to survive. Speaking an hour later than scheduled, Sanchez called for any woman suffering sexual abuse to use the channels provided by the party to report it. "If we believe that a woman's body is not for sale, then there can be no room for behaviour that contradicts this belief," he said, without mentioning Salazar. 'Captain does not abandon ship' On Monday, a Supreme Court judge ordered that former PSOE official Santos Cerdan be held in pre-trial detention after he was accused of orchestrating kickbacks in exchange for awarding public works contracts. Cerdan denies the allegations, which are part of a wider corruption inquiry threatening to destabilise Sanchez's government. The PSOE on Saturday named Rebeca Torro as Cerdan's replacement as secretary of organization and two deputies. Salazar would have been the third deputy secretary. Sanchez announced several measures against graft, including reforms to the party machinery "to avoid excessive concentration of power" and providing anonymity for whistleblowers. He remained defiant about his ability to continue governing. "The captain does not abandon ship when rough seas come, he stays to weather the storm," he said. The minority coalition led by the Socialists relies on a loose alliance of nationalist and far-left parties to pass legislation. Until now, those allies have said they do not plan to support the conservative People's Party's call for a no-confidence vote that would precipitate an election. Senior party figures arriving at the PSOE headquarters were met with boos from protesters gathered across the road and were forced to raise their voices when declaring their support for Sanchez as the crowd chanted "out!, out!" While some said they were confident that Sanchez's reforms would defuse the scandal, others appeared more sceptical. Castile-La Mancha Governor Emiliano Garcia-Page described the scandal as one of the most serious in the half century since the restoration of democracy in Spain following the death of dictator Francisco Franco. "The leadership needs to understand that if it doesn't offer an exit, if it doesn't offer solutions, then it's part of the problem," he said.

British FM meets Syrian president in Damascus
DAMASCUS: The UK's top diplomat David Lammy met Syria's leader Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus on Saturday, the Syrian presidency said, in his first visit since longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad was overthrown in December. Interim President Sharaa received Lammy alongside Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, according to photos of the meeting released by the presidency. The talks addressed 'bilateral ties… and ways of strengthening cooperation, as well as regional and international developments', Sharaa's office said in a statement. The Syrian foreign ministry issued a similar statement following a separate meeting between Lammy and Shaibani. Syria has seen a flurry of diplomatic activity since Islamist-led forces ousted Assad in December after more than 13 years of grinding civil war. IMF team makes first Syria visit since 2009 In May, Syrian Defence Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra met with an official British delegation, the defence ministry said at the time. In April, the UK government announced it was lifting sanctions imposed on Syria's interior and defence ministries under Assad. It also said it was lifting sanctions against various media groups and intelligence agencies, as well as on some sectors of the economy including financial services and energy production. A month earlier, it lifted sanctions on 24 entities including Syria's central bank. Syria's new authorities have welcomed the moves, which came as they seek to rebuild the country and reboot its moribund economy, both ravaged by the conflict and crippling sanctions.

PML-N gets simple majority in National Assembly: Dar
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Saturday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) achieved a simple majority in the National Assembly after allocation of reserved seats following the Supreme Court's decision, Aaj News reported. He made these remarks while speaking to the media during the 982nd annual ghusal ceremony of the shrine of Hazrat Syed Ali Bin Usman Al-Hajveri, popularly known as Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), with rose water in Lahore. The foreign minister added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had not sought any ministries and did not express any desire to join the federal cabinet. 'PPP stood by us in difficult times, and we will continue to support them,' he added, dismissing speculations of rifts within the ruling alliance. PHC bars elected MPAs on reserved seats from taking oath Dar also highlighted that during the past conflict with India, all political parties stood united, and 'the world heard one collective voice from Pakistan.' He reiterated that accountability should prevail across all provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 'Iran acknowledged Pakistan as a true friend,' he said, adding that pro-Pakistan slogans were raised in funerals of Iranian martyrs, including that of the Iranian army chief. Dar confirmed Pakistan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for two years and reiterated Islamabad's commitment to peace and stability. 'Our agenda is economic progress, not war,' he stressed. The DPM highlighted that Pakistan had signed a $2 billion deal with Azerbaijan, inflation had come down, and the interest rate had been slashed from 22% to 11%. 'Pakistan was on the brink of default, but we turned it around. Our foreign reserves have now reached $14 billion,' he claimed. During the visit to the Data Darbar, Dar participated in the ceremonial cleansing of the shrine with rose water and Zamzam water. He offered Fatiha, laid a chadar, and was briefed on the site's ongoing development projects by Auqaf Secretary Dr Tahir Raza Bukhari. Dar announced plans to install umbrellas similar to those in Masjid-e-Nabawi in the shrine's courtyard, with approval already granted by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. 'We hope all renovation work will be completed before next year's ceremony,' he said. Reflecting on the recent military successes, he stated that Pakistan had retaliated decisively when India launched strikes. Dar said that if India initiates war, Pakistan is fully capable of responding, as demonstrated recently when six Indian aircraft were downed. He said Pakistan, with God's help, emerged victorious against a much larger adversary and 'taught India a lesson.' 'Pakistan gained immense respect and success,' he remarked, asserting that the ceasefire with India remains in place, but constant preparedness is essential due to persistent threats, including terrorism. Regarding Saudi relations, Dar revealed that negotiations had been ongoing for 7-8 months to streamline visa processes and requested that blue passport holders also be granted greater access. Addressing the PTI founder's legal issues, Dar said, 'The law will take its course. Fabricated and sponsored stories won't change the facts. We aim to work with all political forces.'
