New York Giants' Brian Daboll praises rookie Beaux Collins as a 'young professional'
One thing is becoming clearer with each passing day here at New York Giants training camp: Undrafted free agent wide receiver Beaux Collins is likely to make the 53-man roster. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound Collins, who played his college ball at Clemson for three seasons before transferring to Notre Dame for his senior year, is a polished young talent the Giants lucked into after he went undrafted this spring. "Young professional," head coach Brian Daboll said when asked what he's seen from Collins so far. "That's the first thing. Handles his business the right way. I'm talking about outside the building, too. All the things that you're trying to teach young players to do, take care of your body, eat right, do all those things. And then, he's smart, he's picked up our system really well, and he's shown toughness, and I talked about this after the draft -- we kind of placed a high premium on bringing guys that have some toughness to them, and I'd say he fits right in with those young guys that we picked. "He's got good size, he's got speed, he's got the ability to change direction for a bigger man, he's going to have to -- special teams will be important too for him. He'll have some opportunities there. We've thrown him in with a variety of groups, the first team, the second team, the third team, and we've played him at some different spots. He's progressing. He's an interesting guy to coach because of his size and speed, but his intelligence and his toughness, too. I'm excited to see him continue to grow, but he's done well for himself here." Collins has been making plays at camp as if he's been here for years. He flew under the radar this past draft season because his numbers were low in college. Clemson wasn't really an offensive powerhouse while he was there. He caught 91 passes for 1,290 yards and 11 touchdowns in 32 games. At Notre Dame last season, Collins was one of the Irish's top receivers with 41 catches for 490 yards and three scores despite being new to the offense. He has always been associated with top programs in his life, but the opportunities have been somewhat lukewarm. That is why teams probably passed on Collins in the draft. The Giants scooped him up during the UDFA signing frenzy right after. They might have a steal on their hands. "Just my background," Collins replied on Thursday when asked why Daboll called him a "young professional." "The high school I went to was a pretty high-powered high school. They had like signals, signs, so I was picking up on plays and learning certain concepts since the age of 15, and some of it is carried all the way to this point. Some of it's changed a little bit, just the verbiage and things like that. I've just been blessed to be able to go to some pretty stout programs and learn a lot from a lot of players that are older than me and some great coaches as well. Thanks out to those dudes." That speaks a lot to why Collins appears to be so comfortable making the transition to the NFL. Giants starting quarterback Russell Wilson said before training camp that Collins has "shown some unbelievable growth." Collins now finds himself in the same huddle as Wilson, a player he watched growing up. "It's insane. I grew up watching Russ on TV when I was this tall, so it's crazy going out there just catching passes from him," he said. "First couple times, I missed the feel with him just because of the speed of the game. I had to kind of speed up and get my eyes around quicker and things like that, but I really love catching passes from him, man. It's amazing." The Giants hope the results are just as amazing.

Cowboys to work out La'el Collins for possible return to team amid rash of OL injuries
Reinforcements may be coming to the Cowboys offensive line, and this one is a very familiar face. La'el Collins, who started 71 games for the team from 2015 through 2021, will workout for Dallas coaches in Oxnard on Friday as the team looks to add depth following a rash of training camp injuries along the front five. Collins, about to turn 33 in July, has reportedly spent the offseason training with Duke Manyweather and OL Masterminds in case there would be an opportunity somewhere for him in 2025. That opportunity could come from the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2015. Once assumed to be a surefire top-10 draft pick coming out of LSU, Collins saw his stock plummet when it was revealed that state police wanted to talk to him about the shooting death of a pregnant woman with whom he had had a relationship. Though Collins was never considered a suspect, he was passed over by every team in every round of the draft. Jerry Jones then famously invited him to a dinner with several Cowboys notables and signed him to the team shortly thereafter. He was starting by Week 7. Collins went on to make 77 game appearances (playoffs included) over six seasons before being released in 2022 with three years left on his contract. The 6-foot-4-inch 315-pounder then signed with the Bengals and played in 15 games before suffering an ACL tear. Cincinnati released him early in the 2023 season. The Cowboys brought Collins back to their practice squad in January 2024 as an insurance piece, but he didn't see the field before the team was eliminated in a wild-card loss to the Packers. Collins signed with Buffalo last April but was released during final roster cuts. He sat out the 2024 season. Though it's been nearly 1,000 days since Collins last played in an NFL game, the Cowboys are not in a position to be terribly choosy about where experienced O-line help is coming from. Last year's first-round draft pick Tyler Guyton will miss four to six weeks with a bone fracture and sprained knee suffered in practice earlier this week. That news came on top of an ankle concern for starter Terence Steele and a neck injury to Rob Jones. Also this week, Hakeem Adeniji went out with a concussion, and Matt Waletzko was announced to have an ankle issue of his own. And then on Thursday, former first-rounder and two-time Pro Bowler Tyler Smith left practice with knee soreness. Collins's ability to play either guard or tackle- as well as his familiarity with many of the Cowboys players, especially close friend Dak Prescott- could help him acclimate quickly if Friday's scheduled workout goes well. His presence at the team's training camp facility has already made waves. "I saw [him] back there. It was a very joyous reunion. LC is a guy that I love,' Prescott told reporters Thursday. 'Hopefully, he kills this workout.' Despite his lengthy layoff, Collins is confident. "I'm going to protect your daddy," he reportedly told Prescott's daughters.
