KUSKOP Expects Trade Mission To Japan To Generate RM51 Mln In Potential Investment, Sales

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives' (KUSKOP) official trade mission to Japan, in conjunction with the Osaka Expo 2025, is expected to generate RM51 million in potential investment and sales.
It said in a statement that the mission is part of its strategic efforts to strengthen the presence of Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the international market, particularly in Japan.
So far, according to the ministry, seven memorandums of understanding (MoUs), worth RM10.3 million, have been signed between four Malaysian companies and seven Japanese companies.
"At the same time, 10 Malaysian SMEs also launched their products in conjunction with the inauguration of KUSKOP Week at the Malaysia Pavilion (at the expo)," said the ministry.
The KUSKOP delegation, accompanied by agencies under the ministry, comprises SME Bank, SME Corp Malaysia, Perbadanan Nasional Bhd, the Malaysian Cooperative Commission, and 39 SME companies as well as five cooperatives from various sectors.
The mission's highlight is the organisation of KUSKOP Week at the Malaysia Pavilion, which started yesterday and will run until June 28, with the theme 'Health and Well-being', in line with the aspiration to introduce local products and services in the health, healthy lifestyle and wellness sectors.
According to the ministry, it has always fully committed to elevating Malaysian SMEs to the global stage by aggressively exploring and seizing strategic business opportunities in Japan and the East Asia region.
During the trade mission, the KUSKOP delegation will also meet with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as other industry players to expand business collaboration opportunities.
'The implementation of the trade mission is in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasises sustainability, inclusive development, and well-being through the strengthening of international economic relations," added the ministry.

A Bernama check found that most visitors and entrepreneurs welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a timely move to strengthen demand for local products and benefit micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Café owner Roslinda Basir, 51, said the campaign has opened more opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurs to promote their products directly to consumers. 'At this carnival, I'm selling nasi ambang with a variety of homemade side dishes and sambal. The response over the past two days has been very encouraging. 'With continued support from the government, more Malaysians will get to know and have confidence in products made by local entrepreneurs,' she told Bernama at her booth today. Kuih keria seller Mohamad Riduan Sukiman, 41, also welcomed the campaign, describing it as part of the government's ongoing efforts to empower local industries. 'I hope efforts like this can be extended to rural areas too, because our local products are high quality. We just need to maintain momentum and ensure continuity to reach wider markets,' he said. Visitor Noraini Md Yusof, 32, described the campaign as a timely move to help stimulate the economy of the people in the post-pandemic period.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- The government's decision to review the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is not a hasty reaction, but rather one that has gone through a discussion process over the past two weeks, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the discussions began with a draft presented by the Economy Ministry secretary-general to the Cabinet. 'We've actually discussed this. In my press conference a few weeks ago, I mentioned that the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) had issued a directive to review the draft presented by the Economy Ministry secretary-general. 'As you know, any policy, programme or decision must first be presented at a Cabinet meeting. 'So, on Friday last week (June 20), the Prime Minister requested all ministries to study the draft and submit their feedback to the Economy Ministry,' he said at a press conference after launching the Nadi Aspirasi Nasional Bersama Anak Muda (NANBA) programme organised by the Community Communications Department (J-KOM) here today. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI government spokesman, said following that, a special Cabinet meeting was held last Monday to review feedback from all ministries. 'During the meeting, it was found that many matters raised by the ministries need to be considered by the Economy Ministry in drawing up the 13MP document. 'That was one of the reasons why, in last Wednesday's Cabinet meeting — the latest one — it was decided that Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah would take on the duties and functions of the Economy Minister,' he said. Earlier, former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli was reported to have questioned the government's move to review the 13MP, calling it a hasty response to social media criticism.
