Before the sale, the auction house's head of sporting memorabilia David Convery estimated the shirt could have fetched between £7,000 and £10,000.He described the cotton top as looking like a "nightshirt" and said it would have been heavy for the players to wear if it rained.

The oldest shirt in the auction was worn by Robert Clark in the 1927-28 season and sold for £6,000.Other notable sales included a replica Stewart Barrowclough shirt from the 1976 League Cup Final, which went for £2,600. Viktor Gyokeres speaks out as Mikel Arteta closes in on more Arsenal signings

Arsenal have been busy in this transfer window after adding three new players - with another one on his way in Noni Madueke - but Mikel Arteta is still waiting to bring in a new striker that he desperately needs Arsenal fans are anxiously waiting for more news on transfer targets after seeing the club do a number of deals - without delivering on the striker they crave so desperately. Mikel Arteta has snapped up three signings so far in this window - goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard. ‌ Meanwhile, Chelsea winger Noni Madueke is on his way ahead of completing a medical over his £52million deal. ‌ But some Arsenal fans aren't happy with the business that's been done so far after a petition was launched against Madueke's signing, while there is frustration over the failure to get Viktor Gyokeres' signature over the line. Here, Mirror Football has rounded up the biggest Arsenal transfer news and gossip. Gyokeres speaks out Arsenal remain at a stalemate with Sporting Lisbon over Gyokeres and it's the transfer saga that seems like it will go on and on until deadline day. ‌ The Gunners will certainly be hoping to avoid that despite Sporting declaring a "cooling off period" in talks, having failed to reach a breakthrough. Arsenal have proposed a package of €65m (£56m) plus future payments of €5m and €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons, but a €5m (£4.3m) gap remains between the two clubs. ‌ Gyokeres is said to be furious with Sporting over their stubbornness and wants the situation resolves as soon as possible - with the player reportedly going on strike ahead of his expected return to pre-season training. He has now given an interview to French outlet L'Equipe discussing his future - as he admitted he would love to play in the Premier League after failing to cut the grade while turning out for Brighton at the start of his career. 'It's one of the biggest leagues in Europe. I spent several years there without being able to play a single match. So, of course, it's something I'd like to do. It would be great revenge!' ‌ When asked if he could quit Sporting, he replied: "Maybe. That's football, you never know. I don't think about it; we'll see what happens. If something happens, it will. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me." Maresca teases imminent Madueke announcement Arsenal fans know that one signing is just around the corner - even if many might not be too enthusiastic about it. Madueke is set to bolster Arsenal's numbers on the wing following the end of Raheem Sterling's loan spell and he will give Arteta further options alongside Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Martinelli. ‌ He will become the club's fourth signing of the summer and Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has now spoken out about the deal happening for the first time, teasing Madueke was just "hours" away from becoming an Arsenal player. "Noni is in contact with a new club," the Italian said. "I guess that he's going to leave in the next hours. I said in one of the last press conferences that at the end, if players want to leave, at the end, it's difficult for the club and for the manager. Noni decided to leave, nobody told Noni he had to leave. If he is happy, we are happy." ‌ Gunners snap up son of ex-Champions League winner from Chelsea There's quite a bit of transfer business between Arsenal and Chelsea these days. Here is another Gunners deal for an ex-Blues star, but it's not a direct deal between the clubs. Arsenal have snapped up 17-year-old left-back Marcell Washington following a trial with the club last season. He last played for Chelsea and is actually the son of Ryan Bertrand, who won the Champions League with the Blues in 2012. Washington has now signed a professional deal with the Gunners after impressing across eight matches featuring for the Under-21s in the 2024-25 campaign. ‌ The teenager revealed how his father had been instrumental in guiding him through his career so far and said he was eager for him to become a "better version of him". 'I think it's been such an honour to have him take me through clips and walk me through games that I've played,' he said. He's really passionate about making me a better player and probably a better version of him. We might have a bit of an argument about it but you get it out of him "I think [Arsenal] is a really big club, obviously. The club are always striving to win trophies. I'm just looking to be an addition to that and see what I can offer the club."

Bryan Mbeumo offers fresh Man Utd hint as Ruben Amorim gets £10m boost

Manchester United remain keen on Bryan Mbeumo, who has continued to make it clear he wants the move, as player sales elsewhere benefit Ruben Amorim's budget this summer Manchester United's transfer business has firmly stalled with Matheus Cunha still their only major summer signing after he joined from Wolves for just over £60million earlier in the summer. Their attention is now on Bryan Mbeumo, who has excelled for Brentford, but they've seen two bids for the forward rejected and are yet to return with a third bid. The player himself wants the move but the Bees have not eased off their valuation. ‌ Ruben Amorim also has a number of players whom he needs to either back or more on. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho all headed out on loan last term but are back at Old Trafford despite not appearing to be part of the plan. ‌ Alejandro Garnacho is another man who could be on his way out as the club look to bolster their funds with a No 9 thought to be on their shopping list. A dire Premier League underlined the need to change the look of the squad and here's the latest news coming out of Manchester. Mbeumo's latest hint Mbeumo has liked Leny Yoro's Instagram post after he confirmed his return to United training in what is the latest hint that he's keen on making the switch. The Cameroonian has made no secret of his desire to move on and take up the opportunity at the Premier League giants, who are trying to land more firepower in a bid to get them back up the table. His latest move on Instagram has appeared to underline his motivation to move on. ‌ He liked Yoro's post despite the pair having no prior involvement as team-mates. The Frenchman put up a post that read: "ReUnited" alongside an image of him going through his paces and Mbeumo was among those to like the post, along with current Old Trafford stars Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot. Club banking £10m plus from sell-on fees United's summer business is being aided by the millions they are receiving from sell-on fees they previously included in deals with Alvaro Carreras - who never played a game for the club - due to bank them more than £7m. ‌ Newcastle have just signed Antony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, which has cost the Magpies £55m. As per the clauses inserted in the deal that took Elanga from Manchester to Nottingham, United will land 15 percent of profit on any deal. Given he moved for £55m, United are said to have picked up around £6m of the fee, reports The Telegraph. Former United left back Carreras is set to land them even more cash as he is on the verge of leaving Benfica to join Real Madrid for around £43m after an impressive year in Lisbon. He moved to Portugal 12 months ago for around £7m, which means Benfica will pocket around £36m of profit. 20 percent of that - £7.2m - will go to United and further bolster their summer budget. ‌ Juve agree Sancho fee Juventus have agreed a £17.3m deal with United for Jadon Sancho as the player looks for a way out of Old Trafford following Chelsea's decision to send him back after his loan move. According to La Stampa the Red Devils were holding out for closer to £25m for the former Borussia Dortmund man, who cost them £70m back in 2021, but have decided to ease on their demands in a bid to get the flop out the door. Sancho refused to budge on his £350,000-a-week wage when Chelsea considered signing him, meaning they pulled out of a deal as they refused to pay that much. His salary could still prove a major sticking point when it comes to negotiations with Juventus.

Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres faces disciplinary action for training no-show

The Portuguese club warned Gyokeres' no-show will make the striker's possible departure to Arsenal 'more complicated'. Gyokeres, who scored 39 league goals to fire Sporting to the Portuguese title last season, is understood to be at the top of Arsenal's wishlist. However, the two clubs are yet to agree a transfer fee and the 27-year-old has appeared to play his hand by refusing to return for pre-season training. However, Sporting president Frederico Varandas told Portuguese news agency LUSA, 'We're calm. Everything can be solved with the closure of the market, a hefty fine and an apology to the group. 'If they don't want to pay Viktor's fair market value, we'll be very comfortable with that for the next three years. 'If the geniuses who are devising this strategy think that this puts pressure on me to make it easier for him to leave, not only are they completely wrong, but they are also making it more complicated for the player to leave. 'No one is above the interests of the club. Whoever they are.' Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to bring in a new striker before the club's pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong, with Arsenal due to play their first match, against AC Milan, on July 23. Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard has been brought in from Brentford, along with Spain international Martin Zubimendi and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined from Chelsea. Arsenal are also closing in on a £52million deal for Chelsea's England forward Noni Madueke.
