Woman learns husband spent £1,300 on Facebook Marketplace and rolls eyes at what arrives

Daily Mirror3 days ago
A purchase made by Tom Adam left his wife rolling her eyes as the 43-year-old splashed out £1,300 on a Facebook Marketplace purchase which Avigail believed was 'one of his shenanigans'
A woman discovered her husband had spent more than a grand on Facebook Marketplace. The £1,300 purchase had Avigail rolling her eyes, with Tom Adam, 43, buying something totally unexpected. While initially unconvinced by the purchase, in a now viral clip of the Facebook Marketplace find, Avigail was left laughing after seeing what Tom had bought.

The post went on to rack up 15.6million views and more than 325,000 likes. The wild purchase went down a treat with members of the public, who said it was one of the "best uses" of money they had seen. Avigail has seemingly come around to Tom's purchase of a limo.

Avigail thankfully saw the funny side of the purchase when it arrived at the couple's property. Tom had spent $1,800 (£1,347) total on the limo, which needed a further $1,000 (£753) worth of repairs.

Once up and running though, Avigail could not help but agree the car is suitable for one crucial reason. She said: "I rolled my eyes thinking it's another one of his shenanigans.
"He invited me in and I saw him laughing with joy, and I was actually really happy for him. He had a dream to own a limo just for fun and now he does. I'm all about bringing dreams to life."

The couple, from New Jersey in the US, have four children, who were all keen to get inside and take it for a spin. Members of the public were full of praise for the purchase, with one person jokingly suggesting a limo is technically a family car.
They wrote: "A limo is a family car." Another added: "100% the best use of adult money I've ever seen in a parenting decision." A third shared: "And here I was thinking I wanted a minivan for our next kid. This is so cool."

Other commenters are worried their significant other would buy a limo instead of a more conventional family vehicle. One user wrote: "Thousand percent chance my husband would and probably will do this the second he has nine extra cents to spend."
Another added: "When that adult money hit, but you're still a kid deep inside."
Avigail's post to TikTok reads: "For full transparency, he did invest around one grand for repairs, but still... that's a pretty sweet deal for a driving living room.
"But before you swarm Facebook Marketplace for the next available limo, just remember you will also have to park that thing..."
She makes a good point – we don't know where we'd even put a limo!

'I bought a damp caravan for £500 on Facebook Marketplace to turn into my dream home'

Hayley and her partner Ben spent three months transforming the rundown caravan into their perfect holiday home A woman has transformed a damp caravan she bought on Facebook Marketplace for £500 into her "dream" holiday home. Hayley Rubery, 35, renovated the entire caravan on a small budget and said she's "absolutely chuffed to bits" with how it turned out. ‌ Hayley and her partner Ben, 41, bought a 1989 Van Royce two-berth caravan, which she has dubbed Joyce, online and has since been hard at work renovating it. After three months of graft, the thrifty 35-year-old has given it a complete overhaul, spending £498 on making it a modern and stylish mobile home. ‌ They managed to bag the caravan for a third of the asking price of £1,500, and then set to work transforming it with a £500 budget. The mobile home was full of damp and required a full "gutting and refit" plus a cosmetic overhaul – something Hayley and Ben did throughout the week and on weekends, whenever they had a few hours spare alongside their full-time jobs. ‌ Hayley, who is a content creator based in Norfolk, told What's The Jam: "We spent months gutting, cleaning, sealing, painting and designing our caravan. It needed some TLC but we saw the potential. "First we cleaned and stripped everything down – goodbye to years of grime and hello to a fresh start. We tackled the essentials, fixed what was broken, sanded and painted what we could – all walls and kitchen cupboards and cabinets. ‌ "We removed the cushions in the seating area as they were damp and put a mattress in there so we'd have a permanent bed. I spray painted the outside using Valspar direct to metal paint and a spray gun." She added: "We added a slat wall feature in the entryway using 50p lengths of wood from the timber yard and stick-on tiles for a strong visual effect in the kitchen. I upcycled and kept everything I could to keep the costs down. ‌ "From repurposed furniture to second hand finds, we stretched every pound. It's amazing what you can do when you get creative." Hayley and Ben painted the caravan's exterior for £100, as well as inside, and also spent money on wood, sealant, stick-on tiles, lino flooring, lighting, and fixtures including the taps and door handles. Decor came in at just £44.67, with Hayley sourcing much of it from charity shops and online. Hayley added: "Joyce has a lot of green, natural wood textures and plants. My style it very much 'cottage country' vibes. I love it. Who says you need a big budget to make big changes? It's amazing what you can do with £500!"

The hybrid sports coupe is nearly here, and Honda is revealing more information for us to dig into. View post: Everything We Know About The 2026 Honda Prelude Before Its September Debut There is no doubt that TikTok is the screen time king If one thing can be truly described as a guilty pleasure in today's digital landscape, it would be TikTok. The infamous short-form video platform has become the dominant social media application, capturing the attention of millions around the world. As much as we may wish to resist the digital siren call, the app's algorithm draws users in with an endless stream of ultra-personalized content that can have us hooked for hours. Its effectiveness has spawned a wave of TikTok imitators from American tech companies such as Google's YouTube Shorts or Meta's Instagram Reels. However, TikTok is more than just a social media video app for influencers. Its parent company, ByteDance, is a technological powerhouse that also specializes in cloud and AI services. According to reports out of China, it could be launching a new initiative to get its cutting-edge tech into the next generation of tech-infused cars. MG IM5 — Source: MG Motor TikTok's parent company may bring its tech to future cars According to recent reports from CarNewsChina and IT-Home, the parent company of TikTok is engaged with Chinese automaker SAIC on a new venture called Doubao Auto. SAIC is one of the 'Big Four' state-owned Chinese automakers, which produces cars under the IM, Maxus, MG (yes, that MG), Rising Auto, Roewe, Baojun, Wuling, Hongyan, and Sunwin brands, and under joint ventures with Volkswagen and General Motors. ByteDance and SAIC, as part of Doubao Auto, are said to be working on intelligent automotive solutions (a Chinese tech world buzzword for autonomous driving features), focusing on 'cockpit and intelligent driving' systems. Doubao Auto would use the Volcano Engine as its software backbone to make a software system similar to Huawei's HarmonyOS, an operating system designed to provide a personalized experience across devices like phones, tablets, smart TVs, and even Huawei-developed electric cars. MG IM5 — Source: MG Motor The Volcano Engine is already used by prominent Chinese electric vehicle firms, including the state-owned Changan Auto and GAC Aion, as well as the Geely-linked Lynk & Co. Bytedance is planning to invest in an innovative driving solutions company and has recently hired several former employees from the autonomous driving firm Momenta, according to sources cited by IT-Home. This report follows an earlier report from April 2025, in which SAIC president Jia Jianxu said that it is working with Volcano Engine and other AI partners to create in-car software for tailored personalisation and develop a 'comprehensive innovative ecosystem to meet individual user needs.' Yang Liwei, who runs Volcano Engine's automotive division and leads the Smart Mobility and Embodiment Research Institute, mentioned partnering with SAIC to create an AI cockpit product using ByteDance's Doubao large model. He says this new product can act like a personalized in-car assistant that can figure out what users want before they even say it. 'It not only has multimodal perception capabilities, but is more like a personalized assistant that can understand human intentions,' Yang said in April. 'It can predict user needs in advance and think what you want.' Final thoughts CarNewsChina reported that on July 29, a spokesperson from ByteDance's Volcano Engine denied the rumors that Doubao Auto was a 'direct intelligent driving' business, clarifying that while the Volcano engine provides algorithmic training platforms for its automotive clients, 'it currently has no plans to enter the autonomous driving business.' Besides the purported autonomous driving, ByteDance's AI partnership with SAIC is already a technological bag of futuristic marbles. Mind you, Yang Liwei, the guy who runs Volcano Engine's automotive division, said back in April 2025 that the new product that they are working on with SAIC 'is more like a personalized assistant that can understand human intentions' that 'can predict user needs in advance and think what you want.' Knowing how scarily detailed the TikTok algorithm knows me, that's one heck of a hunk of technology that they might put behind those touch screens in future SAIC-brand cars. Teen finds abandoned warehouse on Google Earth and contents leave him gobsmacked

A teenager stumbled across an abandoned warehouse whilst looking for interesting locations to explore in his area, so he decided to investigate and couldn't believe what he found inside Google Earth uses worldwide satellite imagery and 3D buildings and terrain for hundreds of cities, allowing you to examine different locations across the world and zoom in on specific areas. Some people have childhood memories of using the program's Street View function to find their house during early ICT or computer lessons in school. ‌ One budding teen explorer was delighted when he came across an unusual discovery on Google Earth recently - an abandoned warehouse full of crates of unopened energy drinks and a number of NASCAR vehicles. Jonathan, 16, found the abandoned property while searching for interesting places to check out in his local area. ‌ The property, thought to have been abandoned back in 2022, was in fairly good condition and contained a huge haul inside. ‌ Jonathan shared footage of his discovery on TikTok, where it has racked up 7.2 million views. He told NeedToKnow: 'I found thousands and thousands of energy drinks alongside the race cars meant for the company. And, for some reason, a vintage show car and two random normal cars.' The young explorer added: ' I think it's one of the coolest places we have explored because of the products in there. ‌ 'There are thousands of dollars left behind in there including the cars. 'It's even more insane that the cars are worth tens of thousands [and are] just left to rust and rot away.' ‌ The deserted factory sits close to the Tennessee–Virginia border in the United States. In Jonathan's video, the building appears packed wall to wall with sealed pallets stacked with energy drinks. The TikTok clip has garnered more than 818,000 likes and more than 3,000 comments. ‌ One user said: 'Neeeeeeeed to find this.' Another added: 'If they weren't expired, I'd take whatever I could fit in my car.' A third viewer joked: 'It's like an all-you-can-eat buffet!' While a fourth chimed in: 'This building would hate to see me coming.' Someone else remarked: 'Casually hits the jackpot.' A different user gave a warning though, saying: 'For anyone curious about getting into this, if you find an abandoned building that hasn't been graffitied, used for parties or used by squatters LEAVE. There's a reason they left it alone.'
