Rebel Foods secures $25m from Qatar Investment Authority to support growth

Yahoo22-04-2025
Indian online restaurant company Rebel Foods has received a $25m investment from Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) to support growth, propelling the company's valuation to $1.4bn, reported Mint.
This funding is set to bolster the expansion of Rebel Foods' physical restaurants, as well as food courts, indicating a shift for the Temasek-supported company.
Few people under anonymity revealed information regarding the restaurant plan.
One of the parties said: 'The company wants to expand restaurant and café business, essentially to expand in an omnichannel way.'
The parent company of brands such as Faasos and Behrouz Biryani, Rebel Foods has not issued a statement on the matter.
A large portion of the investment is earmarked for the growth of Rebel Foods' food court venture, Eatsure.
Another source said: 'The company wants to start some key restaurants and food courts where their branded food items can be sold and dined in. They now want to have an omnichannel approach. This is likely to challenge any incoming competition from newer players and quick commerce majors.'
The company's strategy includes a diverse offering within its food courts, ranging from biryani to pizza, and cakes to coffee.
With the fresh capital, Rebel Foods is poised to inaugurate additional outlets in key Indian cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Delhi. The company also recently partnered with Wendy's in India.
The introduction of new outlets comes alongside reports from December, when Mint cited an anonymous source claiming that KKR was in the process of acquiring $50m-$75m worth of Rebel Foods shares from existing investors, at a valuation of $800m-$860m.
Furthermore, Rebel Foods is reportedly considering an initial public offering within the next one to one and a half years.
In February 2025, Rebel Foods opened its third Oven Story Pizza store in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
"Rebel Foods secures $25m from Qatar Investment Authority to support growth" was originally created and published by Verdict Food Service, a GlobalData owned brand.

Trump Official Says More Talks Needed to Clinch India Deal

(Bloomberg) -- US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said 'more negotiations' will be needed with India on a trade deal just days before an Aug. 1 deadline for higher tariffs. Budapest's Most Historic Site Gets a Controversial Rebuild San Francisco in Talks With Vanderbilt for Downtown Campus Can This Bridge Ease the Troubled US-Canadian Relationship? Trump Administration Sues NYC Over Sanctuary City Policy Washington needs additional talks to gauge how ambitious India's government is willing to be to secure a trade agreement, Greer said in an interview on CNBC on Monday. He acknowledged he had previously suggested a deal with New Delhi might be imminent, but highlighted that India's historic policy of strongly protecting its market meant that reducing barriers would represent a major reversal. 'We continue to speak with our Indian counterparts, we've always had very constructive discussions with them,' he said. The comments indicate that India's hopes of securing an interim trade deal before the Aug. 1 deadline are fading as New Delhi and Washington are yet to find a common ground on contentious issues. While India was among the first nations to approach the White House for trade talks earlier this year, it has recently toughened its stance in negotiations. India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry didn't immediately respond to an email seeking further comment. 'They have expressed strong interest in opening portions of their market, we of course are willing to continue talking to them,' Greer said. 'But I think we need some more negotiations on that with our Indian friends to see how ambitious they want to be.' He spoke a few days after Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said he was optimistic that an agreement could be reached to avert threatened tariffs of 26%. Goyal insisted there weren't any sticking points in the US-India relationship, and said that immigration rules — including those around H-1B visas for skilled workers — had not come up in talks. Greer did not say what would happen if no deal was reached with India by the White House's deadline. US President Donald Trump has touted zero tariffs in the preliminary agreements with the European Union and Japan, while promising to impose even higher duties on Aug. 1 for countries that haven't cut deals. Follow Bloomberg India on WhatsApp for exclusive content and analysis on what billionaires, businesses and markets are doing. Sign up here. Trump has separately threatened to hit countries like India and China with 'secondary tariffs' for buying oil from Russia. As part of its trade negotiations, India has expressed willingness to offer zero tariffs on some goods like auto components and pharmaceuticals, while barriers on sectors like agriculture and dairy remain red lines it won't breach in the final agreement, Bloomberg News reported earlier this month. 'The thing to understand with India is their trade policy for a very long time has been premised on strongly protecting their domestic market. That's just how they do business' Greer said. 'And the president is in a mode of wanting deals that substantially open other markets, that they open everything or near everything.' Slow Business The uncertainty on India-US trade agreement has slowed business activity in some sectors, with industries from gems to toys and textiles witnessing order suspensions. Kanodia Global, a manufacturer and exporter of home fabrics and textiles to the US, said customers including Walmart Inc. are turning cautious and holding out on giving large orders. US buyers want shorter delivery time as they don't want their money stuck while the final tariff rate changes, said the company's director Ashish Kanodia. 'Our orders are stuck in limbo. If certainty is there, we will be able to move forward.' Sabyasachi Ray, executive director at The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, also expressed concern over weak business. 'People are tired,' he said. 'We will be highly affected. But something has to come, so we will see.' India's Layoff Wave: What's Fueling Job Cuts Despite Growth?

TCS laid off over 12,000 employees, while Infosys has drastically slowed down fresher onboarding and Wipro is also trimming roles in a targeted manner Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. Some time ago, the global tech industry was experiencing widespread layoffs across tech giants like Microsoft, IBM, Google, and Amazon. Now, the wave appears to have shifted towards India. In Q1 FY26 (April–June 2025), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) posted a 1.3 per cent rise in revenue to INR 63,437 crore, with net profit up by 5.9 per cent. Infosys reported a 7.5 per cent revenue increase to INR 42,279 crore, while HCLTech outperformed peers with an 8.1 per cent rise. Despite reporting positive revenue growth, several Indian IT and non-IT firms are undergoing significant workforce reductions. TCS announced a workforce reduction of about 2 per cent, translating to over 12,000 jobs. While Infosys drastically slowed down fresher onboarding. Wipro is also trimming roles in a targeted manner. Meanwhile, Bhavish Aggarwal's AI startup Krutrim laid off over 100 employees. If not financial distress, then what? The big question remains, if companies are not in financial distress, what's driving this layoff surge? Neeti Sharma, CEO of TeamLease Digital, explains, "Global economic headwinds such as the slowdown, inflation, and high interest rates are key factors contributing to muted growth. Additionally, the rise of AI, particularly Agentic AI is changing the way companies operate, replacing routine and repetitive roles with AI agents." She adds, "This shift is compelling organisations to re-evaluate their structures, distinguishing between roles that will persist and those likely to become redundant. A widening skills mismatch has exacerbated the issue, with many employees lacking the capabilities needed for today's evolving roles. Sector-specific challenges, such as funding constraints in startups and shifting consumer behaviour in retail and manufacturing, have also played a role." According to Nasscom's recent report, 'Workforce Realignment and Industry Transformation', the industry is at an "inflection point" and anticipates some degree of workforce rationalisation in the near term. "In the IT sector, AI and automation have fundamentally changed client expectations demanding greater agility, faster delivery, and continuous innovation. As a result, companies are realigning teams to focus on future-facing mandates. Even beyond IT, businesses are rethinking cost structures and talent strategies to stay competitive in an increasingly AI-first world," said Rahul Veerwal, Founder & CEO of GetWork. What lies ahead for India's job market What should we expect over the next two years? "India's job market will face both challenges and opportunities," Sharma predicts. "There will be a surge in demand for professionals skilled in AI, data analytics, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. Hiring will increasingly expand beyond metro cities into smaller towns. Sectors like e-commerce, healthcare, and renewable energy will grow steadily. We'll also see a rise in freelancing and short-term project-based work as companies adopt more flexible work models." She cautions that in the short term, some roles may become obsolete, especially those that do not align with new technological trends. "However, in the long run, new jobs will be created, particularly those that require advanced digital and technical skills. To succeed, workers must embrace continuous learning and adaptability." Nasscom also reinforced this view, stating that technology remains a powerful enabler of growth. "Every wave of disruption brings new roles, new value chains, and new opportunities." As of Q4 FY25, more than 1.5 million professionals in India have been trained in AI and GenAI competencies across various levels. Among them, over 95,000 employees in large listed IT firms have completed advanced certifications in areas such as AI-native cloud, embedded AI, and applied intelligence. Veerwal adds, "The next two years will not be defined by job loss, but by job evolution. The winners will be those who upskill, adapt, and align themselves with emerging digital ecosystems."
