Intel may be planning to go the ‘AMD way' and how that can be ‘good news' for gamers

Intel
may be planning to offer a suite of gaming-specific CPUs, according to a report. This reported move may be an effort by the US-based chip-making company to build goodwill with the gamer community after navigating various internal challenges and facing a cautious outlook on its future. According to a report by VideoCardz, multiple leakers have suggested that Intel is planning to emulate the design elements that contribute to the reliability of AMD's gaming CPUs. AMD's top gaming-specific CPUs utilise "3D V-Cache," which involves a larger memory section that the CPU can quickly access for complex gaming tasks. The CPU acts as the PC's processing unit, handling game logic and physics simulations, while the GPU focuses on graphics rendering.
How Intel is planning to offer gamers better CPU options
Multiple posts by tipsters suggest that Intel may be working on new desktop chips under its upcoming
Nova Lake series
that feature a different cache layout. One of the leakers, named Raichu, took to the social media platform X to suggest that some Nova Lake processors may include a component called a Big Last-Level Cache, or bLLC.
Another leaker, Haze, also shared similar information earlier this month about the bLLC being part of the new Intel microarchitecture. The exact size of this cache remains unknown, and it's not yet clear how it may compare to AMD's current lineup. Still, it suggests a potential shift in Intel's approach to performance in its upcoming chips.

In recent years, some PC gamers have turned away from Intel's gaming-focused CPUs. The 13th and 14th-generation chips faced criticism for stability issues caused by incorrect voltage behaviour, which Intel later addressed through patches and extended warranties.
However, these problems affected Intel's image among chip enthusiasts. The Arrow Lake series, which followed, didn't significantly improve things on the gaming front, with many users noting that performance lagged behind the company's own earlier releases.
Intel issued a patch in February to improve performance, but by then, AMD had already introduced its
Ryzen
7 9800X3D, featuring 96MB of V-cache, which drew considerable attention among gaming users.
Arrow Lake appears to have been optimised more for general computing and AI tasks than for gaming. While the gaming CPU segment may be smaller than enterprise or productivity-focused markets, gamers remain among Intel's most vocal user groups. To rebuild confidence, Intel may be working toward delivering better gaming experiences once again.
According to a report by Gizmodo, some recent gaming laptops equipped with Intel's mobile Arrow Lake HX processors have shown improved performance compared to their immediate predecessors. However, desktop variants have yet to follow suit. Intel's broader challenges may be more closely tied to its slower entry into the
AI chip market
.
Nvidia
capitalised on the early demand for AI training hardware, while AMD has recently promoted its Threadripper Pro 9000 WX series as a solution for AI-related tasks.

Japan PM Shigeru Ishiba signals he'll stay amid resignation calls

Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba signalled he intends to stay in office despite a growing number of calls within the ruling party for him to step down after an election setback last week. "I intend to devote myself to the people and the future of the country," Ishiba said in an interview with national broadcaster NHK. He added he must take responsibility for implementing the recently announced US-Japan trade deal , and that the real work on it starts now. He is set to speak at a meeting of Liberal Democratic Party lawmakers on Monday. Party members have been calling on someone to take responsibility for the July 20 elections that saw the LDP lose its majority in Japan's upper house elections. It marks the first time since 1955 that a leader from the storied Japanese party will govern the country without a majority in at least one of the legislative bodies. Chennai Metrowater pilots robotic cleaning in sewage pumping stations to boost efficiency and workers' safety

After deploying robots to clean sewer lines in some city zones, Chennai Metrowater is now piloting the use of robotic technology in sewage pumping stations in Thiruvanmiyur. The initiative aims to enhance operational safety and efficiency by minimising manual intervention. The water agency has already added Bandicoot Mobility, a robot that cleans maintenance holes of the sewer network, to remove clogged waste in sewer lines in zone 6 ( 9 (Teynampet) and 13 (Adyar). With robotic devices, which were developed by Genrobotics, a Kerala-based startup, helping to reduce clogging of lines for a year now, the water agency is exploring other innovative technologies to improve maintenance of sewer infrastructure. Officials of the Metrowater said an advanced robot with remote control unit and cameras, Wilboar, is being used to clean the sewage wells in Thiruvanmiyur sewage pumping station on a pilot basis. The robotic unit developed by Genrobotics is lowered into the wells that have a depth of up to 10 metre to remove the silt. With high-pressure water jets and grinders, the device grinds accumulated sludge into finer particles and clears them. This would eliminate the challenges in the use of conventional processes, improve efficiency of cleaning sewer wells and reduce complaints of sewage overflow in the pipelines. The Thiruvanmiyur sewage pumping station has a capacity to handle 15 million litres of sewage a day. Such robotic devices are already in use at Nellore, Andhra Pradesh and Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, said officials. There are 375 sewage pumping stations in the city. Such robotic devices would be deployed in sewer well cleaning operations in other pumping stations following the success of the trial implementation. Rao, president, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Labourers Union, said it was a welcome initiative to ensure workers' safety and reduce manual intervention. Such efforts must be expanded to densely populated urban spaces and monitored for regular maintenance. Workers hired for sewer network maintenance should be redeployed to other roles. Nearly 2,850 labourers have been hired for sewer and water network maintenance in Chennai.

Gujarat govt approves five-year action plan for AI implementation

Gandhinagar: The state govt said on Sunday that it approved an action plan for the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI). Over the next five years, the govt aims to position the state as a leader in AI-enabled governance. The action plan, which will serve as a time-bound blueprint to equip the state govt with advanced AI capabilities, will be based on six key aspects: data, digital infrastructure, capacity building, research and development, startup facilitation and 'safe and trusted AI', the govt said. Over the next five years, the govt aims to train over 2.5 lakh individuals, including students, MSMEs and govt employees in AI, machine learning (ML) and related domains. At the annual Chintan Shibir in Somnath in Nov 2024, the CM said that Gujarat will leverage AI across its administrative framework and departments to lead in technology-driven governance and socio-economic progress. Subsequently, a 10-member task force was set up with members from key departments such as healthcare, education, agriculture, fintech and other sectors. Based on the task force's recommendations, the CM approved the AI implementation action plan, an official statement said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Secret Lives of the Romanovs — the Last Rulers of Imperial Russia!
