The Judge Just Threatened to Remove Diddy from the Courtroom: Here's Why

The rebuke came after Bryana Bongolan, a friend of Cassie Ventura, testified Combs dangled her over a 17th floor balconyThe federal judge overseeing Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex trafficking trial admonished the music mogul's attorneys on Thursday, June 5, due to gestures he made towards the jury set to decide his fate.
'Your client was looking at jurors and nodding vigorously," Judge Arun Subramanian said to Combs' lead attorney Marc Agnifilo after the witness left the stand, out of the presence of the jury. "This can't continue, or I will issue a limiting instruction you won't like — or take other measures, including barring your client from the courtroom."
"It is absolutely unacceptable," Subramanian also said, adding that it "absolutely cannot happen again."
Agnifilo assured the judge that it would not happen again. The woman who had been testifying when Combs nodded at the jurors was Bryana Bongolan, a friend of Combs' former longtime girlfriend and the government's star witness, Casandra "Cassie" Ventura.
Bongolan testified that Combs once held her over Ventura's 17th-floor apartment balcony in 2016 before he threw her onto the balcony furniture, causing bruising, ongoing night terrors and paranoia. Combs has denied her allegations.
Bongolan's accusations came under intense scrutiny on Wednesday, June 4, and again on Thursday, when she was questioned by Nicole Westmoreland, one of Combs' attorneys, about inconsistencies in accounts she has given in interviews with the government, a civil lawsuit she filed against Combs last year and in separate demand letters that were sent to the mogul by her attorneys.
Westmoreland questioned Bongolan about whether Ventura witnessed Combs dangling her over the balcony and where on the balcony she alleges Combs had held her. Bongolan responded many times to Westmoreland's questions, "I don't remember."
On Wednesday, Westmoreland asked Bongolan: "Isn't it true that just two days ago, you told the prosecution you just don't recall the details of the balcony allegation?" Bongolan responded: "I don't remember."And on Thursday, Westmoreland intimated that Combs might not have even been in Los Angeles at the time Bongolan alleges he dangled her over a 17th-floor balcony.
Combs was performing in the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour in 2016, which had dates on the East Coast in September 2016, around the time Bongolan took pictures of her alleged injuries. When questioned Thursday by prosecutors, Bongolan said that while she was unsure of the exact date, she was certain Combs dangled her from the balcony.
Combs has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Douglas did not reply to Business Insider's request for comment. In a statement to People, Douglas' rep said he "doesn't remember any argument in that timeframe" between them. "He actually only remembers seeing and meeting Sharon for the first time when he saw [director] Paul Verhoeven's screen test of her for 'Basic Instinct' and [Michael] said, 'Absolutely, she's the one,'" the rep added. Looking back now, Stone, 67, believes the tension between her and Douglas led to the movie's success, as her character is never intimidated by the tough detective investigating her, Douglas' character Nick Curran. "It worked great because I was not rattled if he yelled at me," she continued. "Eventually, we became the greatest of friends, to this day. I admire him tremendously."

The rap mogul's former girlfriend, Virginia "Gina" Huynh, who identified herself as the previously unnamed 'Victim 3' in his sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy trial, penned a letter to New York Judge Arun Subramanian supporting Combs' request for bail ahead of his Oct. 3 sentencing. In Huynh's letter—submitted to the courts Aug. 3 and obtained by E! News—she detailed knowing Combs for 'many years in both a personal and professional capacity,' and that she will use her knowledge of him 'a father, a family man and a businessman' to share 'observations about his character and to respectfully request that the Court permit his release on bond while the case proceeds.' She also pointed to the trial being Combs' first criminal case and that 'throughout the investigation and proceedings he has been cooperative, respectful and compliant.' At the conclusion of the seven-week trial, a New York jury found the rapper guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution but acquitted him on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. He could face up to 20 years in prison for the convictions, though his counsel is seeking 21 to 27 months while prosecutors are asking for 51 to 63 months (approximately four to five years), per NBC News. On July 2, Judge Subramanian confirmed Combs would remain behind bars until his October sentencing hearing, though Combs' legal team submitted another request for bail on July 29—one opposed by the prosecution. In his July 2 ruling, Subramanian cited Combs' "years-long pattern of violence" as a reason for him to remain behind bars, adding that he "continues to be a danger to others and unable to follow the law." James Van Der Beek is all about transparency when it comes to his cancer journey — especially with his kids. 'I'm far from an expert, but our approach was just to be as honest as possible, as honest to the degree of their understanding, right? Because they know,' Van Der Beek, 48, explained on Today on Wednesday, July 30, while discussing how he and wife Kimberly Van Der Beek told their six kids about his stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis. The couple share daughters Olivia, 14, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 9, and Gwendolyn, 6, and sons Joshua, 13, and Jeremiah, 2. James added that his children can 'sense that Dad's having a tough day." "They know if Dad's in pain. They know, and so by not telling them, I think you're confusing them even more," he continued. James Van Der Beek's Most Honest Quotes About His Cancer Journey: 'I'm Feeling Good' The Dawson's Creek alum encouraged parents who are going through the same thing to allow their children to offer support emotionally, because they would be surprised at how much kids can handle. "When you tell them what you're doing and you tell them the approach, they can see it and they can feel it, and I think it's also, your journey is their journey," he said. "I have kids making me tea. 'Dad, what do you need?' There's been a lot of beauty that's come out of it, but I would love to save everybody [from] this journey, which is why I'm saying get screened.' James was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in August 2023, but he didn't make his diagnosis public until November 2024. 'Each year, approximately 2 billion people around the world receive this diagnosis. And I'm one of them,' he wrote in an Instagram post at the time, revealing that he was 'in a good place and feeling strong' while undergoing treatment. In an interview with People, James revealed that his cancer had reached stage 3. 'I've been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,' he said. 'There's reason for optimism, and I'm feeling good.' James compared fighting cancer to having a 'full-time job,' between scheduling appointments, tracking test results and handling insurance. He reiterated his comparison in an interview with adding that his cancer journey is a 'process' — one that he would likely be going through 'for the rest of my life." However, James said that he's found an escape in work. He is set to star in Prime Video's upcoming series Elle, a Legally Blonde prequel about high school Elle Woods (originally played by Reese Witherspoon, who is producing the show). "Even just the slightest little change, it could be something, but ... don't think that not having symptoms means you don't have to get screened, especially for something that is this curable when caught early," he said. "That's really what I want to get across. I ate as well as I could. I was healthy. I was in amazing cardiovascular shape.
