BHU's new website highlights growth, research, and student well-being

Entrepreneurship and the rise of Zscaler Jay Chaudhry's entrepreneurial journey began with founding five tech startups, all in the cybersecurity space. His first company, SecureIT, was acquired by Verisign, followed by CipherTrust and AirDefense, both acquired for significant valuations. However, his most notable success came with Zscaler, founded in 2007. The company introduced a pioneering Zero Trust security architecture for cloud computing, revolutionising how enterprises approach cybersecurity in an increasingly remote and cloud-based world. Government Invites Proposals For High-Impact Global Research, Check Details
The Ministry of Education has relaunched the online portal for its flagship Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), enabling year-round submission of joint research proposals. Implemented by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, the scheme is designed to advance high-impact academic partnerships between Indian and global institutions. SPARC aims to transform India's higher education research landscape by promoting international collaboration in solving national and global challenges. The scheme is open to premier Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) - including those ranked in the NIRF Top 100, Central Universities, and institutions recognized by the International Nuclear Information System (INIS) - to partner with globally ranked institutions (QS Top 800) from 28 countries. Since its inception, SPARC has facilitated 799 joint research projects with funding of Rs 515.99 crore. The initiative has also led to the filing of 51 patents, with 22 already granted. Research areas span 12 high-priority domains such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, medical technology, climate science, semiconductors, and smart cities. The scheme supports a range of collaborative activities including: Long-term visits of international faculty and researchers to Indian institutions Short-term visits by Indian students to top global labs for research training Co-development of specialized courses, books, patents, and demonstrable research outcomes Bilateral workshops held in India to deepen institutional partnerships An annual international conference to showcase research and promote visibility Capacity building through training of researchers and students The relaunch aligns with the G20 Education Working Group's priority of strengthening research and innovation through global collaboration. During India's G20 Presidency, SPARC's goals resonated with the broader commitment to advance open, equitable, and secure scientific cooperation across borders. Key areas of focus include AI, digital transformation, sustainability, and emerging technologies, which were also highlighted in the G20 Leaders' Declaration. In total, SPARC has approved approximately 800 joint proposals across its two phases, positioning it as a significant driver of India's efforts to build a globally connected and innovation-led academic ecosystem. Himalayan village to Forbes billionaire: Indian-origin Jay Chaudhry among America's richest immigrants
India has surpassed Israel to top Forbes 2025 list of foreign-born billionaires in the United States, with 12 Indian-origin individuals making the cut. Among the most prominent names is cybersecurity entrepreneur Jay Chaudhry, who ranks 8th on the list, whose journey from a remote village in India to building a multibillion-dollar tech empire in the US is a striking example of Indian talent making waves worldwide. Chaudhry is the founder and CEO of Zscaler, a leading cybersecurity firm he started in 2008. The company went public in March 2018 and has since become a major player in the cloud security space. Chaudhry and his family currently own around 40 per cent of the Nasdaq-listed firm. According to Forbes, his net worth is estimated at $17.9 billion (1,790 crores) in 2025. Born to a small-scale farmer in a small village of Panoh in Himachal Pradesh that had no electricity and running water, Chaudhry went on to get a degree from IT-BHU. He then moved to the US in 1980 and completed his master's degrees in both electronic, computer engineering and industrial engineering and management from the University of Cincinnati, and also attended Harvard Business School. Zscaler isn't Chaudhry's first successful venture. He has founded multiple tech companies over the years. In 1996, he and his wife Jyoti both quit their jobs and poured their life savings into founding SecureIT, his first cybersecurity startup that was pretty successful. After that Chaudhry went on to establish several other firms like CoreHarbor, CipherTrust, and AirDefense, all of which were acquired. Chaudhry's inclusion on the Forbes list is significant because it showcases the achievement that the Indian diaspora has achieved globally. Taking over Israel in terms of the number of foreign-born billionaires in the US, leading the 2025 list with 12 Indian-origin billionaires. Israel and Taiwan follow with 11 each. Overall, there are now 125 foreign-born billionaires living in the US, up from 92 in 2022 hailing from 43 countries. These immigrant entrepreneurs and innovators collectively hold $1.3 trillion (130,000 crores) in wealth, accounting for 18 percent of America's total billionaire fortune. The top of the 2025 list features notable names such as Elon Musk (South Africa), Sergey Brin (Russia), Jensen Huang (Taiwan), and Thomas Peterffy (Hungary). Jay Chaudhry now stands tall among them, not just as a tech mogul, but as a powerful symbol of what Indian-origin immigrants can achieve on the world stage.
