Texas' two Major League Baseball teams are joining in to help recovery efforts after devastating flooding in the central part of the state.
The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros each pledged $1 million toward relief efforts Monday. They are just the latest professional teams to make a donation. The Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and the NFL Foundation combined to donate $1.5 million, and the state's three NBA teams, along with the NBA Players Association, combined to donate more than $2 million.
A massive storm swept through Kerr County, which sits northwest of San Antonio, and the surrounding areas Friday. As of Tuesday afternoon, according to The New York Times, the death toll had risen to at least 111 people. At least 161 remain missing in the county, and officials said nobody was found alive since Friday.

Fast-moving waters rose more than 20 feet in fewer than two hours along the Guadalupe River on Friday morning, which led to millions of people being placed under flood watches over the weekend. A Christian summer camp for girls was especially impacted. At least 27 campers and staff members were killed in the flooding, and several are still missing.

Spurs' Carter Bryant makes bold Rookie of the Year prediction

The post Spurs' Carter Bryant makes bold Rookie of the Year prediction appeared first on ClutchPoints. The odds that a player on the San Antonio Spurs will win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award for the third straight year are slim. Don't tell that to Carter Bryant though. The No. 14 overall pick says if he doesn't win the award, that means his new teammate, No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper, will have beaten him to the punch. Advertisement 'I mean, one of us is gonna get it, so whether it's one or two or whoever gets it, it doesn't matter,' Bryant said. 'I'm just trying to win basketball games at a high level.' After Victor Wembanyama became the third player in Spurs history to win the honor, Stephon Castle doubled the franchise's ROTY tally by taking home the trophy this past season. Bryant isn't alone in thinking this, as Harper also sees the possibility for a three-peat. 'I mean, definitely, I think that's definitely a goal of mine is to make it three in a row,' Harper said. 'And I think the coaching staff and I think the players are gonna probably make it easy for me to go out there and showcase my talent. So, definitely.' Advertisement Carter Bryant, Dylan Harper prepare for 2025-26 campaign with Spurs While San Antonio missed out on the playoffs last season, it's clear they are a team on the rise in the Western Conference. If Harper and Bryant can come in and make an impact right away, the Spurs could quickly emerge as one of the top teams in the West. Harper knows transitioning from college to the pros will be difficult, but he's excited to make that jump. 'It's definitely an adjustment,' Harper has already said of his upcoming transition to the NBA, 'In my head I'm thinking, 'This is really my college (experience),' because Rutgers was right down the road, 50 minutes. That's like high school part two for me. But, now officially being far away, just excited. Honestly, ready for this new journey in my life and I'm gonna take it with grace and I'm also just gonna be happy wherever I end up.' Perhaps making things easier, this is a journey Harper will take alongside his friend Bryant. Advertisement 'I'm looking forward to playing with my guy, D. Harp,' Bryant continued. 'I mean, it's been a long time coming. We had a lot of conversations throughout high school whether we all were trying to play together in college, just maybe playing together at some point. So, for him, to be my draft buddy and being able to both go in the lottery and be able to represent San Antonio is dope.' That Harper and Bryant are playing specifically for the Spurs matters to both guys. 'Man, I feel great. I feel good. I almost cried, 'Harper admitted. 'Everything, in just every emotion you could possibly feel I felt during that moment. I was ready to get with that organization man. Ready to get things rolling I'm just super excited and happy and just always grateful for everything.' 'Definitely,' Bryant added. 'I think I just want to bring more attention to whatever organization I was blessed to be drafted by. But obviously San Antonio just has a rich history of having a lot of intention behind everything they do.' Advertisement The Spurs had every intention of drafting Dylan Harper. They targeted him knowing that the Dallas Mavericks would take Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick. They didn't think Carter Bryant would be available when they were back on the clock at 14, to the point where they considered trading up to get him. With perhaps the best haul of any team in the 2025 draft, San Antonio has added key pieces to what was already a promising young core. Whether one beats out Flagg – or the other – for Rookie of the Year remains to be seen. Dylan Harper's ‘surreal' NBA journey begins with Spurs rookie contract

The post Dylan Harper's 'surreal' NBA journey begins with Spurs rookie contract appeared first on ClutchPoints. With the Summer League approaching, the San Antonio Spurs continued what's been a good start to the off-season by signing the second overall pick of the NBA Draft. For Dylan Harper, inking his name on a contract serves as a culmination of sorts. Advertisement 'From the time I picked the jersey up, to when I shook Adam Silver's hand to now, it's all been surreal,' the former Rutgers star said. 'I'm just blessed and happy to be here.' Per league regulations, Harper's deal with the Silver and Black falls under the rookie scale. He's set to earn $12.4M his first season. The year after that, he'll get paid $13M. The Spurs will have the team option for the 2027-2028 campaign, when he'd make another $13M. In 2028-'29 the annual salary would increase to $17.2M as San Antonio would again would have a team option, though Harper would also be eligible for an extension. That following off-season (2029), Harper would become a restricted free agent if no extension was signed the summer before. Advertisement Dylan Harper looks forward with Spurs The Spurs have already ruled Harper out for their first several Summer League games because of what they're calling a minor groin issue. While they say he'll miss the team's three games in San Francisco, California, they're hopeful he'll play when the Las Vegas, Nevada competition starts on July 10. Harper averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists in his lone season at Rutgers University. He set a program freshman scoring record with 564 points, shooting 48.7% from the field. He reached double figures in 24-of-29 games, including 20 games with 20+ points on his way to Big Ten All-Freshman honors and All-Big Ten Third Team. A native of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey and the son of former three-time NBA champion Ron Harper, the 6-5, 215 pound guard led Don Bosco Preparatory High School to a 2024 state title. He was named the 2023–24 Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year and earned MVP honors at both the 2024 McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic. Advertisement On the international stage, he represented USA Basketball as a member of the 2024 USA Men's Junior National Select Team and the 2023 USA Men's U19 National Team at the 2023 FIBA U-19 World Cup in Hungary. The Spurs now expect Harper to contribute immediately as they continue to build around Victor Wembanyama. 'I'm feeling is blessed, happy to be a part of this organization,' Harper said as he officially joined the team. Safe to say the feeling is mutual on San Antonio's end.
