Delhi Police detains e-rickshaw driver after glass pieces found on Kanwar route

An e-rickshaw driver has been detained after glass panels being transported on his vehicle shattered and scattered along a stretch of the Kanwar Yatra route in Delhi's Shahdara, police said on Sunday. Glass panels being transported on the e-rickshaw driver's vehicle shattered and scattered along a stretch of the Kanwar Yatra route (ANI/Representational) The e-rickshaw was carrying 19 glass panels from Shalimar Garden in Uttar Pradesh to Seelampur in Delhi when it was allegedly hit from behind, leading to the panels breaking and falling on the road between Chintamani Chowk and Jhilmil Metro Station, they said. The driver, Kusum Pal, from Ghaziabad, has been detained for questioning. His route is being verified and CCTV footage is being examined, police said. According to an official statement, the matter first came to light on July 12 when the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Seemapuri shared a video that showed the broken glass on the route. The video, however, had been recorded earlier on June 10 and was uploaded by a local, Piyush, who was informed about it by his friend Montu. After the incident came to light Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Seemapuri, inspected the stretch and found only a few shards remaining. Sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) told police that the area had already been cleaned earlier that morning. Later that night, the Public Works Department (PWD) also alerted police through a PCR call made by a junior engineer. Based on his statement, an FIR was registered on Sunday at Seemapuri police station under sections 125 (act of endangering human life or personal safety due to rash or negligent conduct) and 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway, police said. Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra has also posted on X, raising concerns over glass on the Kanwar route and had assured of action. "Some miscreants in Delhi's Shahdara scattered glass pieces on the Kanwar yatra route for about a kilometre. PWD and corporation employees are clearing the road. Local MLA Sanjay Goyal is present at the spot and CM Rekha Gupta has also taken cognisance," he had said. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva also alleged that the incident is a "pre-planned conspiracy" to disturb communal harmony and is a work of "anti-social" elements. Meanwhile, police teams were deployed in the area to patrol and inspect roads near the flyover and Kanwar camps. Kanwar yatris in the area had also said their journey had remained peaceful and well-managed. Raman, a Kanwar yatri resting in one of the camps, said the journey had been peaceful so far. "All arrangements are good and we have no issues. We saw a few glass pieces on the flyover, but many workers were cleaning the roads even at night," he said. Aman, another yatri, said, "There were a few glass shreds, but they were being cleaned. I saw close to 7 to 8 Kanwar camps and others still setting up, so no problems so far."

Jeremy Renner opens up on his ex-wife Sonni Pachecos allegations, says 'It certainly doesnt feel good'

Washington, DC [US], July 14 (ANI): Actor Jeremy Renner opened up about how his divorce and custody battle with ex-wife Sonni Pacheco, as reported by the New York Post. He talked about allegations during their 2019 divorce proceedings that he allegedly threatened to kill her and himself. "Whatever stress I've had in life, I've tried to find a way of laughing through it," said the actor, adding, "And that's where sometimes cynicism comes out you think, 'I'm just going to laugh at this stuff'," according to the New York Post. Renner continued, "Being accused of things you've not done, right? That doesn't feel good to anybody. It certainly doesn't feel good when you're a celebrity and it's known to everybody." Renner later shared that Pacheco's claims were not true. "No, and they happen all the time," he shared. "It's all the salaciousness that happens out there. It's clickbait, and it hurts my feelings, and it dehumanises people," as reported by the New York Post. The Oscar nominee also explained that he ignored the public's reaction when the allegations first emerged. "It doesn't matter to me what people say," the 'Avengers' star shared. "They're saying it for their own reasons and not for the right reasons or the truth. And I'm used to that, because I'm a public figure. I don't read people's reviews, I don't read people's comments. I don't care. That's not part of my life," as per the outlet. Renner and Pacheco were married for ten months before the model filed for divorce in December 2014. During their subsequent custody battle over daughter Ava, now 12, Pacheco claimed Renner threatened to kill her and once stuck a gun in his mouth and shot into the ceiling while Ava was in her room, according to TMZ. She also reportedly accused Renner of drug use and leaving cocaine on a bathroom counter where Ava could reach, according to the New York Post. However, he denied all of Pacheco's allegations at the time. Pacheco fought for sole custody of Ava, but she and Renner currently have joint custody. "Her mom and I get along very well, and we're in each other's lives," he shared, adding, "It's lovely." Renner also shared that his relationship with his ex-wife is "no one's business." "It's great," he said. "She's got a new baby and she sends me beautiful pictures." Pacheco welcomed her daughter Wylder with hockey player Nate Thompson in March 2023, according to the New York Post.
