PIO dies days after Australian cop allegedly knelt on his neck
MELBOURNE: An Indian-origin man has died days after an Australian police officer allegedly knelt on his neck during an attempted arrest, a media report said on Sunday.
Gaurav Kundi, 42, from Modbury North in Adelaide, died surrounded by his family on Thursday after he was hospitalised for an "unrecoverable" brain injury, 7News Australia reported.
Police attempted to arrest Kundi on Payneham Rd at Royston Park, alleging it witnessed an "altercation" between him and a woman.
The video footage of the incident showed Kundi being forced by police while he and his wife, Amritpal Kaur, loudly protested. "I've done nothing wrong," Kundi shouted.

The inquiry would review SA Police's policies, practices, including training regarding responding to incidents. The arrest has been compared to the 2020 George Floyd case in the US. Floyd, 46, was murdered by a police officer, who pressed his knee and weight of his body against the Black American man's neck.

7 Nepali women rescued from human traffickers
Kolkata: A team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officers rescued seven Nepali women, including a minor, from alleged human traffickers at Panitanki Market near Border Pillar 90 on Friday evening. Initial investigation revealed that the traffickers had created fake Indian IDs for these women and had promised them lucrative jobs in Hong Kong. The quick response team of the 41st Battalion's 'C' Company apprehended two suspects — one from Darjeeling and another from Nepal — following a tip. They were caught just 150 metres from the international border around 5pm. SSB sources said the traffickers charged Rs 3 lakh per person for arranging travel documents and transportation to Hong Kong. "The suspects were planning to obtain Aadhaar, PAN cards and passports for these women using forged documents," said a senior SSB official. HC denies pre-arrest bail to man accused of replacing Tricolour on mosque with saffron flag
Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana high court on Saturday refused anticipatory bail to a man accused of removing the national flag from a mosque in Gurgaon and replacing it with a saffron flag. "The gravity of the offence and its potential impact on public order and communal peace cannot be overlooked. No extraordinary or exceptional circumstance has been brought on record by the petitioner that would warrant the grant of pre-arrest bail, particularly in light of the serious communal and constitutional implications of the alleged conduct," HC observed in its order. "The fact that a deeper and proper probe is required… This court is of the considered opinion that custodial interrogation of the petitioner is a must and no ground for granting anticipatory bail is made out," said Justice Manisha Batra in the order. The bench noted that the allegations against the petitioner were not vague or general in nature but "specific and substantiated by initial investigation", including purported conversations between the petitioner and co-accused when the alleged crime was being committed. Farmer crossed over to Pak by mistake, jailed

BATHINDA: Punjab farmer Amritpal Singh , 23, who had inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory from his fields on Zero Line, has been sentenced to a month's imprisonment each under two offences and fined Rs 50,000 for each offence by a court in Chunian, Pakistan, reports Neel Kamal. Non-payment of fines will keep him in Pakistan prison for 15 days more on each count. Both sentences will run concurrently. Amritpal is lodged in Kasur district jail. The court also wrote to Pakistan ministry of interior to arrange for his deportation to India after completion of sentence. His father Jagraj Singh told TOI that he has got Pakistan court's conviction papers and letter to the interior ministry to deport him. "I am writing to Indian authorities to ensure that Amritpal is deported upon completion of his sentence."
