Dwyane Wade's NBA career was built on brilliance, intensity, and early dominance. There is no question about that. The Miami Heat legend had every intention of becoming one of the greatest to ever touch a basketball, and for a while, he was on that path.
But as Wade revealed, injuries stole his athleticism, alongside his injury woes snatching away his chase for
Michael Jordan
's elusive GOAT title. And for Wade, that sting still lingers.
Dwyane Wade admitted that he was chasing Michael Jordan's GOAT status before injuries changed everything
Few players in NBA history have experienced such an explosive entry into the league as Wade. Drafted fifth overall in 2003, Dwyane Wade wasted no time putting Miami on his back. By his third season, he had already delivered a championship, an early peak few could match.
'I'm not the greatest shooter of all time, but I was great at so many different things,' Wade said on Carmelo Anthony's 7PM in Brooklyn podcast last year. 'No one knows how to really break down my game... Before injuries, I'm like [Michael Jordan]. I'm coming for you.'
And it wasn't just talk.
Wade's 2008-09 season was nothing short of MVP-worthy— 30.2 points, 7.5 assists, and 5 rebounds per game. He finished third in the MVP voting, dominating both ends of the floor with an all-around game few guards could match.

He played with a chip on his shoulder and the fire of someone destined for legendary status.
Yet, even as his superstardom soared, Wade's body began to betray him.
A dislocated shoulder in 2007, chronic knee problems soon after, and an endless list of injections and rehab sessions derailed his prime just when he was nearing Jordan's orbit. As Wade put it: 'When I had it, I had it.'
Dwyane Wade's injury changed his role
Injuries didn't just sideline Wade physically; they altered his role, trajectory, and how fans viewed his place in NBA history.
When LeBron James and Chris Bosh arrived in 2010, Wade transformed from franchise alpha to a selfless second option, sacrificing personal stats for team success.
He was certainly a culture setter. But in doing so, many forgot how dominant he was pre-Heatles. He went from 'MJ, I'm coming for you' to learning how to thrive as a role player in a superteam era.
'I did so many different things... I learned how to be great at being a role player,' Wade reflected.
Despite the decline, Wade never stopped contributing. He earned three rings, 13 All-Star nods, a Finals MVP, and left the game averaging 22 points over 17 seasons. Even if he didn't catch Jordan, he left a shadow long enough to make sure his name stays in the all-time conversation.

His bronze statue now stands outside the Miami arena. And Wade will remain one of Miami's greatest, and one of the NBA's most complete guards ever.

Gautam Gambhir vs The Oval curator: Ashwin says 'boss, what are you doing?'

Gautam Gambhir (Image credit: IANS) NEW DELHI: A heated argument broke out at The Oval during India's training session between head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief curator Lee Fortis, just two days before the all-important fifth Test against England. The confrontation was triggered when Fortis allegedly instructed the Indian support staff to maintain a 2.5-meter distance from the pitch—something that didn't sit well with Gambhir and led to a verbal clash. The exchange escalated quickly, with Gambhir reportedly telling Fortis: "you don't tell any of us what we need to do, you have no right to tell us, you are just a groundsman nothing beyond." In response, Fortis threatened to report the matter further. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Reacting to the incident, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin drew comparisons with a similarly tense moment from the Sydney Test during India's 2020-21 tour of Australia. Poll Do you think the heated argument between Gambhir and Fortis will impact the team's performance? Yes, it will create distractions No, they will focus on the game "I can draw a parallel with Sydney. When we drew the Test in Sydney, there was an uncertainty because we were back in the bubble and the Gabba Test was under scrutiny. England were comfortably ahead in the series until that last Test. Till the last day, we thought the Test series was sealed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Benefits of Trading Bitcoin CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo But the way that game ended, even if it was a draw, and the conversations it triggered and the press conference... it was fiery," Ashwin explained. IND vs ENG: Gautam Gambhir loses cool during heated exchange with ground staff at The Oval ahead of 5th Test He also addressed the recent tensions and their possible influence on the Indian squad's mindset. "I won't go into whether Gambhir was right about asking for a substitute or how Stokes immediately shut it down... after all of this comes the video of the fight. And I am thinking, 'Boss, what are you doing? This isn't how you want to play with this Indian team,'" he stated. IND vs ENG: The Oval curator breaks silence on Gautam Gambhir's outburst ahead of 5th Test Ashwin suggested that such fiery episodes could actually fuel the team's performance, especially under pressure. "When adversity is against the Indian team, somebody will rise up. When we are pushed against the wall, the Indian team becomes a different kettle of fish. It becomes a different beast. That particular thing going into the Test is a serious advantage for India. It may mean nothing if England play good cricket and India don't end up on the right side, but somehow I feel this is not the way it has to be triggered," Ashwin concluded. With high stakes already in play, the incident has added a fresh layer of intensity to the series-deciding Test. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

IND vs ENG: 'It is entitled behaviour of the English' - Former India wicket-keeper on Gautam Gambhir vs pitch curator controversy

Lee Fortis and Gautam Gambhir (Getty Images) NEW DELHI: With India and England preparing for a series-defining fifth Test at The Oval, the cricketing world has been rocked by an off-field controversy involving India head coach Gautam Gambhir and pitch curator Lee Fortis. The tension boiled over during India's practice session on Tuesday, when Gambhir reportedly clashed with Fortis over pitch access and conditions. In a heated exchange, Gambhir was seen pointing at Fortis and saying, 'You don't tell us what we need to do.' The situation escalated to the point where India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had to intervene and pull Fortis aside to de-escalate the confrontation. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The sentiment found support from former India wicketkeeper and current mentor of Outer Delhi Warriors, Parthiv Patel. Speaking at the jersey launch for the Delhi Premier League (DPL) Season 2, Patel didn't mince words: 'It's frustration for England. I have my sympathy for them. Gautam has every right as coach to see the pitch. It's unfortunate what happened. It is entitled behaviour of the English.' Patel also took a moment to praise India's young wicketkeeper-batters. On Rishabh Pant, he said, 'When he met with an accident, no one knew if he could walk again. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How to Trade ETH/USD Without Holding Ether IC Markets Learn More Undo Then he made a comeback. That was inspiring. The way he batted despite injury is incredible. Having respect in the dressing room is important. He has earned that.' He also lauded Dhruv Jurel's progress: 'Dhruv Jurel has stepped in very well. Dhruv Jurel did very well last year against England. It's a good opportunity for him now.'
