Emma Watson banned from driving for six months: This Harry Potter star also faces the same penalty on the same day
Emma Watson faces six-month driving ban and £1,000 fine
According to The Sun, Watson was handed a six-month driving disqualification and fined a total of £1,044 by High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, July 10. She did not appear in person for the hearing. Her lawyer, Mark Haslam, confirmed she was aware of the charges and noted, 'She is in a position to pay the fine.' The court added three penalty points to her license, which already carried nine points, leading to the automatic ban under the totting-up system.
Not Watson's first issue behind the wheel
This latest penalty is the result of Watson accumulating multiple driving offences. According to court records, she already had nine points on her license before the Oxford speeding incident. Although details of her prior infractions weren't made public during the hearing, The Sun previously reported that she was seen in February 2023 negotiating with tow-truck drivers as her Audi was being hauled away in Stratford-upon-Avon, suggesting earlier driving-related trouble.
Her Harry Potter co-star Zoe Wanamaker also sentenced the same day
In an unrelated but coincidental case, Watson's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone co-star Zoe Wanamaker was also disqualified from driving during the same court session. The 76-year-old, who played Madam Hooch, was caught driving at 46 mph in a 40 mph zone on the M4 in Berkshire last August. Like Watson, she already had nine points on her license, and the court issued the same six-month ban and £1,044 fine. Her lawyer stressed that she wasn't seeking 'special treatment' and accepted the court's ruling.
Other stars who've faced driving bans
Watson and Wanamaker join a list of celebrities who've temporarily lost their licenses in recent years. In 2022,Bridgerton actor Regé-Jean Page reportedly received a short ban for speeding, while singer Rita Ora faced fines for traffic offences in London. These cases highlight that even public figures are held accountable under UK traffic laws and that fame doesn't excuse repeat offences behind the wheel.
